Wow. Iowa comes in knowing UCLA is one of the top rushing defenses in the country and proceeds to help them prove it . . . over, and over, and over, and over, and over . . .

Anybody ever heard of "scratch where it itches"?

When the opponent has a top rushing defense and a near-the-bottom pass defense, whatever should you do against them? Well, run into a stacked box of course. And so Iowa did, and so Iowa lost.

Sullivan connected on Iowa's longest pass play of the season on Friday night, but that was the one and only deep ball Iowa threw. No completions to the TE. Where's that seam route? Where are the slants? Where's the wheel route? Why didn't Wetjen touch the ball ONCE on offense all damn night?

And then the Iowa defense let one of the poorest rushing teams in the country run all over them. More poor tackling. I thought defense was supposed to travel.

The Rose Bowl grass seems to make Iowa look slow and small. UCLA dominated the game, but its turnovers and penalties allowed Iowa to keep the score close. The final easily could have been in the range of 41-10. And that's how it felt as I sat there freezing in the worst venue in America for fans. The Rose Bowl is a great setting, but it's impossible to get there, the "food" options are disgusting, although they are expensive--$7 for a bucket of salt disguised as popcorn anyone? The scoreboards are tiny and unreadable. The videoboards are undersized and unreadable. They don't even have a videoboard at the south end. And no matter where you sit, you are miles away from the field. There was no energy in the building all night long. The 54,000 fans managed to make no perceptible noise. It was like watching the game in your living room through the wrong end of binoculars. I swear I'll never waste my time and money at the Rose Bowl again.

The whole game was bizarro-world. Were they even aware they had a game on Friday night? It didn't look like it. Even when they were up 10-0, it felt tenuous, at best. Iowa was lucky it was only 20-17. It could have easily been 34-17, or worse.

I’m still mystified Iowa hasn’t played any two back sets to create misdirection to either run off of or send both backs out into the flats to pull the linebackers from the middle of the field which will open it up for the tight ends to hit the downfield seam.

Iowa has an abundance of talent at the rb position but not seeing enough of them in the passing game. Especially against a strong run defense to counter their upfield push which was killing Iowa all night.

Kirk has his (woefully outdated) offensive philosophy. It remains the same no matter who his personnel is, and no matter what the strengths/weaknesses of the opponent is. He is going to stick with it game after game. And there will be no adjustments IN game.

It either works or it doesn’t. For the past several years…..much of the time it doesn’t. But he will continue to hammer that square peg in the round hole.

Seemed to me there were plays Sully should have pulled the ball and ran rather than handing to RB. Not sure he was reading things as well as needed at times.

Need to get out more, you didn't know concessions and prices at any college or pro venue are awful wth
The Rose Bowl is like Wrigley and Fenway. Iconic and you get what you get regarding evereything else.
It's the defense. Soft, slow and stupid.
You didn't waste any time or money on the Rose Bowl. It wasn't a real Rose Bowl. Just a game between two bad teams in the Rose Bowl.

Do worry about waste of time and money. It wasn't a real Rose Bowl
