Was on KXNO with Marty and Miller and said he had never travel abroad. This really surprised me. I know it is a demanding job, but one would think that at his age and with his resources, he would have traveled abroad a decent amount. He said never.

I have always wondered what does he do with his money (and I totally realize it is none of my business). He has a nice house, is charitable, presumably put the girls and Steve through college. His job requires him to pretty much work constantly.

Iowa doesn't do the Athletic Department cruise thing? I know most Florida schools, some SEC schools, and ND all do it. He could check a couple of Caribbean islands off his bucket list.

I think most people would say the Caribbean is not "traveling abroad".

He doesn't have the time to travel the world. Maybe in retirement.

I've known lots of very highly motivated people. Guys like him or certainly an anomaly. I mean if I had that much money I would think I would want to see the world. I mean the guy is 60 he's probably going to retire within the next five years that only leaves you a few years of your life to actually take in everything.

And those guys work so many hours they literally have no life outside of football its crazy.

I love money just like the next guy but I had to give it up at a younger age myself just because you cannot have any other sort of life. Now granted I never made that kind of cash either.

Not a big deal, but Marty and Miller are not on KXNO.

Hawaii, Caribbean, Mexico are as far "abroad" as I ever want to go, which have been done a few times (the only thing I would even consider is the British Open). Otherwise, sounds like a major pain in the ass (I think traveling is more of a young man's game, I enjoyed it more then than I do now for certain........).

For sure the world is an interesting place, best viewed from afar IMO however. Buy a book about France or Japan and look at the pictures and call it good.

I live in Iowa because I like it here. I have no real desire to go anywhere else unless it's to watch the Hawks play. Traveling for no particular reason doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone. It's like arguing over taste in music. Why can't you understand that not everyone on the planet shares your specific tastes, opinions, and desires?

Edit: and the poster above makes an excellent point. With current technology you can see just about anything in the highest possible definition, read and learn about anything you want to, and communicate and interact with people all over the world, all from the comfort of your own home.

I sat two seats away from coach on a flight from Dallas. He was coming back from a Hawkeyepoody cruise in the Caribbean. He was flying coach by the way.

Kirk and Mary are very down to earth. Also, they are very charitable. When he is not doing his coaching duties, he is spending time with his kids and wife.

Yep, lots to see in our own country, so I too have no desire to travel the world. However, in the wintertime here in the US, it would be nice to go to the warm & sunny Australian Tennis Open. :)

And who the hell wants to travel abroad now.

Nothing against those of you that don't want to travel the world- but I want to as much as ever- next year have a Venice/Vienna trip planned and a Singapore/Hong Kong trip planned in addition to several US trips. I like Iowa but 365 days a year here would drive me crazy :)

My have and I travel to Europe twice a year. No plans to stop. We are in our late 50's. Paris is our favorite city and we will be back.

I have only been abroad once. I will do it again without hesitation. You could not pay me enough to travel to any of the Middle East countries.

As noted, travel is a personal preference. I have no interest in traveling abroad, but traveling a broad is a whole new discussion =)
