Came across Kirk's introductory press conference yesterday and thought who would have projected his 24 year run at Iowa. Many people asked who? Of course everybody wanted Stoops. Kirk was very articulate in that press conference and his answers were well thought out.

After a one win first year and three win second, I doubt many thought he'd last.
Interesting today, many college coaches say Kirk is everything that is good about college football.

He develops young men for football and life after football, he is a man of high integrity, he doesn't go for more points late when the game is in-hand, has given back to the university many time over.

Now in his twi-light years of coaching, he stands near the cusp for most wins by a Big Ten coach. I'm proud to have him as our coach.

Thanks Coach for many great memories! Hope there's a few more, you deserve it.

Puke on integrity. Id go with smoke and mirrors.

Cant reconcile several things with integrity.

All true. Iowa has had a clean and successful program under Kirk. He is to be admired for that.

I love that my favorite football team has had only two coaches in my lifetime, and both can be considered successful. With Kirk, lots of things are true at the same time. There are a lot of 'what could have beens' but also a lot of 'Iowa punched above its weight' moments.
I think it's safe to say Kirk won many games Iowa should have lost - due to defense and special teams.
It is also safe to say Kirk lost too many games Iowa should have won - due to his offense.

KF has been great for the University of Iowa. Runs a clean program, guys graduate and he has been really good at developing players. He is a very conservative football game day coach who schedules very weakly and the offensive game passed him by several years ago, before the Brian fiasco. Glad he's been around but it's about time

Interesting topic. Kirk as a coach has always seemed flawed but generally successful. His ultimate legacy may come from working through the new portal/NIL landscape and establishing a sensible approach that works for Iowa. Fans I think will appreciate this more over time with this new system.

Kirk and Tyler Barnes seem to have put their heads together and figured out that for Iowa it makes sense to focus on retention and doing what they can to minimize turnover. Then they can supplement from the portal with guys who fit the culture. Kirk doesn't care if it goes against the grain and I appreciate that.

I think they mean "cleans" means not cheating, no NCAA sanctions, game forfeits, things like that.

Our military, govt, and a whole hell of a lot of big time private organizations have some bad people working for them.

You won't find a program that hasn't some players get in trouble. You're dealing with 18-23 year old males. That doesn't mean the HC is culpable.

I'm glad he's the coach. I think that Iowa is the envy of many football programs (and fans) around the country. Many would love to duplicate what Iowa has done. Just since Kirk has been hired, the Big Ten schools that were in the conference since Kirk was hired, plus Nebraska, have had a combined 59 coaches (not including interim coaches). (I haven't bothered to count the number since Hayden was hired). The school with the least has been Penn State (3). To be fair, there have been retirements and one passing (Walker at NW). I'm sure some will say that longevity is not a good thing, but is a detriment, that it's settling. In some cases I think that could very well be. In Kirk's case, it has been a net positive, by a wide margin.

Kirk is probably one of the most ethical coaches in the game. That being said, the bar is kind of low to meet that criteria. Also, Gunner is one of the biggest KF homers there is on these boards. The nepotism and his absurd loyalty to shit QB play cannot be ignored. He put his son before the program, and there is no logical explanation for his dismissive attitude about the offensive play the last 6 years. And let’s not pretend like Brian would not still be OC if it were up to Kirk. Kirk has been a decent coach over the years, but he needs to go.

Kirk's legacy is consistency and a solid pipeline to the League. While we'll never win an outright B1G title or get to the National Title game, he coached guys well, had some great wins against better programs, and an overall great record against rivals. The NFL pipeline he's had is nothing short of terrific, because there are no other schools that has similar talent to Iowa is sending as many guys to the League like they are. But much to the dismay of Kirk worshipers, his legacy will absolutely be stained by the Brian nepotism fiasco and his inability to adapt to the modern game. The hole he dug the offense will be felt for years to come.
