He's making the shirts with Anthony Hitchens, the 2 stars represent the fact both Hitch and KMM were 2-star recruits. They intend on growing it to a full clothing line once KMM starts getting them out there.

gotta be honest, sounds kinda stupid.

He elaborates on it in the HR Podcast, they came up with idea while they were both younger guys in the program. How they used the fact they were only 2 star recruits as motivation, they didn't have the means to start making the clothes until now. Going to be Iowa themed clothing, Cowboys maybe even as well for Hitch. Wouldn't call it stupid, but not saying it's a amazing either. As long as they come out with fresh styles, and ideas KMM has always been a good ambassador of the program I have no issues supporting it, nor do I mind him profiting off the idea.

All time leader for receptions and doesn't even get a sniff at the NFL. That says something. He probably was a "Health and Sports Science" major and had no possible jobs lined up. I'm all for business ideas but it sounds like he got some money from Hitch and is selling t-shirts that a few hundred drunk hawkeye fans might buy on game day.

How nice of you. You imply he has no job, that he had an easy major ( do you really know if it IS easy), that he borrowed money from a friend, that anyone (esp. a Hawk fan) who would buy a shirt was drunk, and start by implying that he is less a person because he didn't make the NFL.

Dang -- lots of cynicism here. I wish them luck. Amazing how quick some folks are to immediately shoot down ideas, ridicule, etc. I expect that kind of idiocy from da coach, but it seems there are others piling on. Pretty weak. Must be lots of spare time behind the keyboard today.

I hope they have great success, and I appreciate all that both guys gave to the Iowa program.

Hey, power to him. Sure some guys want to get ugly about it while sitting on their urine soaked coaches in their moms' basements. They'll always be with us.

Whether KMM made it to the NFL or not should have no bearing on the fact he is behind selling these shirts. Personally this is to represent all those who were 2 stars that succeeded. It's a pro-underdog, against the odds message. They should try to get JJ Watt to wear one, obviously in his teams colors. He wasn't highly recruited when he originally went to CMU.

Here's a thought. Look at your hands. Make sure they're open. Now go to a mirror. Look in the mirror. Look back at your hands. Now back at the mirror. Now turn sideways. Take your hands and reach behind you while bending forward slightly. Using the mirror, firmly grasp the stick protruding from your a** and pull with considerable force away from your body. If the stick does not come out, call for a friend. Have him help.

You're welcome.

I think it's kind of a cool idea and I'd buy a shirt like that. However, it seems like it would only sell to a limited clientele. I'd bet that the average person has no idea about the star system of ranking recruits. I hope it succeeds though and plan on getting a shirt if I see them being sold at a game.

You sound fun. I mean you sound like a dick..

I could see if these shirts had some irony attached to them. i.e we were a top 10 team loaded with 2 star athletes. Unfortunately, we are an unranked team of many 2 star athletes that garners little respect across the country. It's pretty much the same as Ohio State wearing a 5 star shirt or Idaho wearing a 1 star shirt.

College football fans know very well about the star system for recruiting. There are millions upon millions of college football fans. There's easily a sufficient market for their idea to succeed.

You should help fund their business. You could be sitting on a goldmine.

  1. 1. a small syringe for douching the vagina, especially as a contraceptive measure.
  2. 2. NORTH AMERICAN informal: an obnoxious or contemptible person, typically a man.
A lot of these on this thread. Take your pick of which to use.

I hope he sells a million of them.

Hope is a funny thing, does funny things to ppl

The logo has nothing to do with the reason people should buy the shirt. It's not about being ironic and "sticking it to the man" because they were only two star recruits who set the world on fire. It has meaning to them and that's good enough. They were two star recruits who became friends and promised to work hard and have each others back. To the rest of the world, they want it to represent the clothing line. What does the horse and guy on Ralph Lauren stand for? What does that red, white, and blue thing on Tommy Hilfiger clothing stand for? What the hell is the swoosh or that thing Asics uses to represent there company? It doesn't matter. Those logos became synonymous with a brand. If these two want to start a clothing line, which they do, they needed to come up with a unique logo to set them apart. The meaning doesn't matter. We happen to know it because they've told some Hawkeye fans. 99% of the world doesn't know it and doesn't need to, but as a clothing line their goal is to reach 100% recognition. So when people in Asia see two filled in stars followed by three empty stars they think "these clothes are incredible". Step out of the football bubble. They are creating a business and need brand recognition. They aren't attempting to say that they are or were incredible football players who deserved better than two stars.

I agree with what you said that it's something personal to KMM, but outside of that it's a great brand name which can be seen as motivational to the consumer. To explain, when I said it reminds me of "Plan B" previously, what I meant was that the "Plan B" brand always stuck with me in that it meant something to the effect of "We weren't the first choice, but we did it anyway and we are pretty damn good at it!". Nothing wrong with that as we have all experienced (well.....maybe not some of you) being picked over or left out and used that as motivation to get better and outperform others in that very thing later on. I bought quite a bit of "Plan B" apparel for that reason and will buy 2 stars for the same reason. In a large way this is the "Iowa Way" and it's cool that we have some former players running with the idea.

You don't know what the hell you are even talking about. Our program probably garners more respect around the country than it does on this board, and it's been a nfl factory comprised of 2-3 star recruits for over a decade.

You've been negative on all things Iowa. Now you're just being a dick. Time to unwind, dude.
