I saw an article about the champ. game in Louisville (I think) that mentioned Kriener didn't play in that game. Wondered what the story was??
so help a brother out, was this THE national championship for aau ball or just like a certain level of aau? I know next to nothing about aau, obviously, but it seems like the iowa teams are always competing for a title somewhere or other. I realize there are different tourneys and such, but what made this one that much more important, or was it?
who else was in this tournament, that we can get a gauge of the competition?
signed, aau ignorant
Was that at this tournament or all summer? But one thing I do know is Martin Bros Coach said that Kriener came up against higher thought of posts and outplayed them.

I thought I heard he hit his head on the floor and had a concussion. It's not a similar situation to Pemsl's knee which has to be a major concern right now. I hate to see lingering injuries damage a career so hopefully he can fully recover.
He leg was deliberately broken
Just going to go ahead and not push play on that video k..

Yeah I was eating dinner when I stumbled across that an no way in hell I was watching that.....especially then!
How does one go about "intentionally breaking" a guys leg. Especially a 6'7 (reportedly..hopefully 6'9) guy?
Oh, wait....I just answered my own question.
Make sure you have your volume turned up. I'm going to go vomit.....
Pemsl is apparently about two or three weeks ahead of schedule in his 5-6 mo. recovery and is coming up soon (in a week or two) on the halfway point between surgery (May 14) and playing at full strength (mid to late Nov. or early Dec.?). The U. of Iowa surgeons re-fixed the torn meniscus (which he tore and then re-tore last year and played hurt all season) and they did an osteotomy of the lower femur of his right leg, which I know next to nothing about except that they cut part of his lower femur and straightened his leg with some bone wedges and that is now over 90% healed. He has been spotted doing sprints (with some leg stabilization gizmo), lifting heavy weights, and shooting baskets at a local sports conditioning training facility for local athletes from all schools. This whole surgery situation makes me nervous about the kid, and I hope he is sensible enough to let everything heal before he goes full-force.

I'm with you, this surgery sounds like something that will be successful on your everyday Joe...a D1 bball players last resort perhaps. I really hope he can recover and play without issue but I'm not holding my breath. Really no kid deserves to be in pain, athlete or not.
As much as Fran recruits length, this actually doesn't surprise me. Guys with unusual length are going to have this sort of problem more often than others.According to what I have read McCaffery has had players in the past that had the same surgery, and they came out just fine.
We are going to be really good this year.
Saw somewhere on Twitter that Pemsl is rated 139 in the class of 2016 nationally as of this summer. He hasn't played at all so I don't know how that happens. He was supposed to be on the Martin Bros. team that won the championship in their class, with Ryan Kriener.
I'm probably just as ignorant as you. But there is the Nike EYBL, plus Adidas and Under Amour have AAU leagues. And then I think there might be a non-shoe sponsored club circuit...and if I'm right, at a guess, it was probably that one. Unless they made it through Nike's Peach Jam? Doubt that was it.
But one thing I do know is Martin Bros Coach said that Kriener came up against higher thought of posts and outplayed them.
Actually it's a little different than that. Most of the shoe stuff is done in early July. That is the stuff like UA's major event, EYBL, and Adidas. In late July when they event occurred, most AAU programs (not all, but most) are in Vegas or Louisville. There were a good number in K.C., including teams like the Iowa Barnstormers, in late July. At the AAU event, you see a number of different shoe programs, same with Vegas, where there are three major events running at once. Basically, there are some very good teams that Martin Bros faced in Louisville.
