Not a bad line for Ryan Kriener in Tuesday nights pasting of the Spencer Tigers.

Spencer was 5-1 coming in with only loss a 12 point loss at Hull Western Christian before the holiday break.

Seems Spirit Lake got their mojo back over break. I think it hurt them early in the year as they have several guys that were on the State Champion Football team.

12 of 14 shooting is always good. I'd like to see Wahlert vs. Spirit Lake, but the only way that will happen is in the state tournament.

Good win for sure.

But Spirit Lake has TWO LOSSES, a 30 point loss to Hull Western Christian (48-78, Kreiner had 4 points and no FG's) and a 9 point loss to CR Kennedy.

Looking at quikstats he is 49 for 58 is last 5 games from the field. That's almost 85%. 16-22 from the free throw line or 73%. He's also 2-3 from 3 pt line in last five games. Watched his last game against Spencer on live stream. He made 4 or 5 shots from 15-17 feet along with jump hooks and dunks. Spencer has a couple 6'6" kids getting D2 attention. Kluender is a terrific player for Spencer.

Kriener will be fine. It's not truly fair to compare our recruits' stats because they all bring a very different game to the table, and they all play different levels of competition depending on which week it is. Both the Iowa-bound big guys are getting double and triple teamed. I wish I could see more video or live steam of Ryan. I think he is going to be a very good one, once he gets some Big Ten experience under his belt. We'll have to wait until the tourney to see Kriener and Pemsl against each other, if it even happens. Depending on the districts, substates and state pairings (based on records, not strength), a lot of good teams don't even make it to state, and if they do, sometimes the best teams get paired against each other in the first or second round. Teams aren't seeded, so pairings are geographical before state, and a total lottery pick at state because some of the best teams have multiple losses playing good competition and many top-ranked teams sometimes have great records because they play less-strenuous competition. Spirit Lake has beefed up their schedule considerably the past few years, and Wahlert's schedule is crazy-difficult for a 3A team. Wahlert won the last two 3A championships despite 12 losses over those two years. And Spirit Lake's two losses so far this year are to very good teams. Plus, Spirit Lake has had players starting slowly because of football (injuries and lack of practice).
