Pemsl vs. Kriener

Ideally it would be great that we don't have two use these two next year. Redshirt both of them if they aren't ready.
Our front court will be loaded next year. I would think the two deeps look like this:
Williams/Bohannon
Jok/Moss
Baer/Hutton
Uhl/Jones
Cook/Wagner

I don't see a true 5 on the roster. The game is really going away from this position.
I think Fran prefers BIG's that can't get out and run and spread the floor, shoot 3's, etc..

I think the kid who transfers will be Flemming, who is already behind Ellingson this year.

with Fran it has never been about who starts at certain position its more about who plays WHEN than matters most,

Jones is a player that was adjusting to D1 after 3 years at the JUCO level, with Jones it is his 3 point shooting that is hard to duplicate @ his Height,

another thing to remember Fran like scoring that comes from the bench, and Jones when healthy provides that. this is where Bear is that instant energy player off the bench.

after 5+ years it is easy to pick up on Frans coaching tendency's, in this case who are the clear role memembers and who the key players are,

in my opinion these are the key role players in the 2016-17 season

Wagner @ F
Baer @ F
Ellingson @ SG
Jones @ F
Fleming @ PG/SG

Hutton and Moss the 2 RSFR to be determined. I am excited to see how a red shirt works for them after seeing what a red shirt season did for Baer and Ellingson.

I agree with that lineup, although Wagner may be able to hold off Cook for awhile since Cook's offensive game isn't that much more advanced than Wagners imo.

The one thing Bohannon brings at PG is being a better shooter than Williams, and that might provide more spacing for us. I really like Williams length though. We do look pretty good in the middle of the lineup with Jok, Baer and Uhl along with Jones and Moss. They all can stroke it.

Hutton, Cook and Wagner bring some toughness too. Not sure how efficient our offense will be, but defensively we look pretty long and athletic again with perhaps even more strength/toughness with these 3 enforcers getting minutes.

Fleming could play some emergency PG minutes if one of those other 2 got hurt, but agree he's probably 3rd PG and 4th SG unless Moss plays at SF more often.

I read an article this morning in the local paper about Spirit Lake's win over Sioux City North Saturday. Spirit Lake's coach had this to say about Kriener. "When he squares up and faces the basket, anybody and everybody that's moving has a chance to get the ball because he's exceptional (passing) that way. He can also shoot the three-ball well." There's a photo of him grabbing a two-handed rebound, and this young man looks long, really long. He's got a chance to be pretty good player for the Hawks.I think this has already been posted, but Kriener finished with 25 and 15. His teammate, Billy Brown, a North Dakota recruit, had 26 and 10.

Kriener will have to do nothing more than what has done his 1st year. as for Williams he played against the same level of competition that Bohanon is. think about a 6'6 pg with a 7' wing span the havoc he can create.

I already posted the numbers that BJ Armstrong put up as a FR, he only scored 2.9 ppg and he played for the Bulls.

just who is Williams supposed to take minutes away from to prove anything to anybody. he has already proved himself to the most important man in this state and that is Fran McCaffery, it is his opinion and his alone that counts and he has already he will be the PG next season.

state your opinion fine, BUT don't tell everybody else what you think is/will be a fact.

Williams has the limited PT he's had this season because he might be the starter next year. CW has disappeared lately because he's not close to being ready to play against tough competition in a close game.

This doesn't mean CW won't develop but he's far from assured a starting spot next season. He could obviously become a monster defender, especially in traps and presses.

Ellingson's minutes are also rapidly declining so I cannot imagine that Fleming would have any incentive to transfer. Watching BE play this season I'd be surprised if Fleming didn't see a good chance to jump Ellingson for time.

I'm not all that sure that Wagner's offensive game is more advanced than Cooks. Cook is not the primary scorer for his team, but I suspect he could put up some big numbers if he had to.

this is said every time a new class comes in. {let's see them play in the BT} well when does that stop and people trust Fran's judgement on these players after all it is his head that is on the chopping block not anybody on this board.
Jok like these before him stepped up as a SR to lead the team in scoring,
Marble after Gatens left, White after Marble and then Uthoff, that is the method of Fran probably the main reason he plays 10-11 players as often as he can. Uhl is a SF and currently is the 6th man on this years team, next year he will start and it will not be at the 5 it will be at the 3 as Jok will move back to the 2. with Fran NOBODY is irreplaceable.

I predict Uhl will not play the 3 for the rest of his career. Unless he gets to the point of shooting like Utoff. Even then he should be 4 where he can use his height and also pull the defense out.

Uhl will spend spot minutes at the 3 if any. He comes in for the 4/5, instead of just the 4 as he did last year. He's an inside player that can face up shoot. He's gotten bigger and stronger. Dom U is the starter at 5 next season. Judging from the what we've seen thus far I'm thinking Cook starts at 4, Jok 3 and the guards are way up in the air.

Uhl as the 6th man plaus strictly the 3 as he comes in for Jok in fact the game Jok missed because of a injury Uhl started in his place and proceeded to put up 14 points and 10 rebounds.

so far this season Uhl is 6th in minutes @ 18.1 mpg, 6th in scoring @ 7.3 ppg, 3rd in rebounding @ 4.3 rpg behind Woodbury 6.2 rpg and Uthoff with 6.1 rpg, 2nd in 3 point shooting behind Gesell @ 50% from 3 while Uhl is 48.3% from 3 and Uthoff is 45.5% from 3.

againposters spouting out about thing they are not qualified to comment on as to where players should or should not play,

Cook is more Qualified to start than Basabe was and yet he was named to the BT All FR team. BT teams constantly start FR, like MSU, Maryland, Michigan, OSU, Fran finally scores a big hit with a top 60 player in Cook and yet you crybabies say he will need time to adjust.

make up your mind, Williams can't possibly be any good because he didn't play at the right level of HS ball, not to mention he didn't have enough stars by his name.

there are 4 players that graduate in spring and there are very few players getting playing time to step in to replace them.

either you accept that Williams right now is the only one with playing to be the starting PG or you are ready to admit incoming FR PG Bohanon is going to be the starter.,

I couldn't disagree more. Uhl been outstanding in most areas this year but he has struggled with post defense. What in Uhl's game makes you say he's an "inside player"? He hasn't shown anything offensively in the post either. That being said I could still see Uhl and Cook as our front court but I would want Cook guarding the 5.

Uhl is a 3/4 that has been forced to play some at the 5.

Next year Cook and Kriener will be playing the 5.

opinions are great but it is no longer a opinion when you state it as fact and use the word "CAN'T"

I would not be surprised to see

Williams/Bohannan
Jok, Moss, Ellingson
Uhl, Baer
Jones, Wagner
Cook/Kriener

I haven't seen enough at PG or the post to have an opinion on who might be better. Jones, Uhl, and Jok would give us our best rebounding team and could stretch the floor. Post defense would still have a Uhl Wagner option if the frosh aren't ready. There are plenty of ways to go, but it all comes down to the point.
