Wow this is awesome news. So I'm totally ignorant here and probably should use google or something but is all woman's wrestling freestyle or do they wrestle folk at the college level?

That sounds like great news! Curious...has there been any info shared on how the women's schedule might look? For instance, is it possible that they would wrestle a dual on the same date as the men? A back to back type of thing.

Also, will they have their own practice area or share the room with the men's team?

Some discussion here about preferring the duals to be prior to the men’s but nothing official that I’m aware of. I’d imagine separate team practice times in the same facility (current or new when it’s complete) but some overlap with men and women as it relates working out with HWC.

Also awesome:

"I got to watch the Iowa-Penn State dual, and I've never been to anything like that," Welker said. "I didn't really know what I was getting myself into. But the fans are crazy. A wrestler does a down-block or sprawls and the crowd goes wild.

"The fan support behind all the wrestlers is insane. I've competed on some really big stages, but I've never seen a wrestling dual or tournament with that many fans. It was electrifying. I can't imagine wrestling in front of that crowd."

I believe they should and will completely do their own thing but I would imagine they would overlap some of the events, or at least they should.
They cannot have the men’s team Interrupted or the women’s team over influenced, for lack of a better explanation.
They should train together in the off season a bit just like a regional training center would, but not during the reg season.

They are separate entities and will mostly be practicing at same time in different facilities, I’m guessing.

It would be really awesome if they could get a set of two new mats that carried a theme. Also that did not have a hole in them.

Like, an Iowa wrestling theme? With logos? I like angry Herky. Maybe black and gold? How am I doing so far?

Holes in the mats? Sounds like we might need a go fund me page.

Congrats Kylie! Welcome to Hawkeye Nation! The #1 PFP woman wrestler in the country is a great first block in women's program foundation!

Curious, does anyone know how many scholarships are allotted for the women's program?

This seems to be stating the NCAA rule, rather than what Iowa plans to do, but I would expect Iowa to offer the maximum.

----

Women's wrestling can offer 10 scholarships that can be divided among participants. The roster size is expected to be 30 to 35 wrestlers.

Iowa will now offer 22 sports -- eight men's teams and 14 women's teams. The university added women's rowing in 1994 and women's soccer in 1996.

To anyone in the know, what are some other names in the 2-10 p4p in womens wrestling? And what are our chances with them?

I have no idea about the chances, but it’s Iowa wrestling with Chun as head coach so I would imagine it’s good with all recruits.
Amit Elor at 152lbs is right up there with Kylie and Kennedy / Korina Blades . Katie Gomez from Cali is the #4 p4p in the rankings along with these other girls makes the top 5 p4p.
