To anyone in the know, what are some other names in the 2-10 p4p in womens wrestling? And what are our chances with them?
I'm keeping up-to-date info on this topic here: https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/iowa-womens-wrestling.381902/

In my opinion, if we get a recruit on an official visit for a dual match, we've got a great chance. The Hawks may be the new kid on the block in women's wrestling, BUT there isn't another school in the country that can offer anything close in terms of fan support, facilities, visibility or prestige. Sure there may be some gals who want to train and compete for other coaches, but I suspect that Iowa is going to be real hard to pass up for most who come on an official.

Are some of the top recruits holding out for the announcement of programs at other power five school? I have to assume some of them are going to have programs as well.

Someday they will I presume, you just have to pay for it somehow and juggle Title IX and all that fun stuff. In the meantime Iowa is on an island unto itself.

Plus they aren't scheduled for "real" competition until the following year I believe, so I presume that means everyone coming in redshirts almost automatically. That may or may not be a hurdle for some.

Most people who visit this Wrestling Site have no clue who the current Programs are collegiately, when and where their Nationals are held, what the weight classes are, etc. Plus they wrestle Freestyle, which many probably don't know either (or like me didn't know but do now).

They will have the same headaches the Men do trying to build a roster of 30+ with limited scholarships, and there are X amount who probably believe they're worthy of full ride scholarships, but they'll find out soon enough they aren't getting them, just like most of the boys.

The sport is growing on the youth level it appears, but it will take quite awhile before it becomes "a thing", and even the amount of support they do or don't receive will be in flux for some time.

For me personally I support from afar anyone wearing Iowa on their jersey, singlet, etc. But I've never been to an Iowa Women's event live of any kind and have no plans to do so moving forward. When time and money are involved you have to pick your battles. (I do enjoy Volleyball and Softball, and watched the gals some in Olympic Wrestling and thought that was OK too - Iowa has Caitlin Clark too, a phenomenal basketball player, but if I watch College or Pro Women's Basketball for any length of time I want to scratch my eyeballs out, so it's very limited). To each his own.
