At USC, the campus remains open and the spring semester will start on Monday, January 13, 2025 as planned, with in-person classes to be held fully indoors until the current fire situation has abated.

These fires are no joke! I live in San Diego in a townhouse directly on a canyon. It's a tinderbox waiting to explode. The HOA's insurance dropped coverage on 135 units in our complex. I'm buying insurance individually to protect my home until the HOA get's its sh!t together. So much for the association fees I pay. I know people in LA who've lost their homes and everything in them. Fires are more of a threat than any earthquake IMO. Homeless people living in these open canyons are starting campfires to stay warm and cook food at night. Gov. Newscum is a joke and should have been spending money to clean up these fire hazards and move homeless people away from these areas. Piss poor government in LA also defunded the fire department by $17 million. Newscum is spending $100 billion on highspeed rail that will service no one! Don't get me started on water management. California politicians are a woke joke. Newscum's term is over in 2026 & he terms out. Hopefully the population will wake up and vote in another Ronnie Reagan to turn things around. The only good to come from this is people will see how poorly Newscum managed the state & he will not be on the presidential ballot come 2028.

It's hard to believe that some of these fire hydrants were either completely dry or had very low water pressure.

I feel bad for the fire fighters, too; they are doing all they can do and they are undermanned and working extremely long shifts (sometimes 24-48 hours).

I hate to break it to you, but the way the climate is trending, much of the SW United States will become more and more uninhabitable in the next 30-50 years. Lack and water being the main concern, but the constant threat of wildfires because people keep building up in the mountains. People definitely pay a price for having great weather year round.

There's plenty of water in CA. The Sierra's have so much snow to fill reservoirs, but our great gov. Newscum let's 95% of it flow right into the Pacific ocean.

Iowa is still scheduled to play in LA Tuesday and Friday.

The release that follows indicates that it was Northwestern's decision to not travel to LA.

Iowa, for now, is scheduled to fly out Sunday (per Fran).

You could say the same about many parts of the country. Why to people build homes all down the coasts or in Florida at all given the horrendous hurricanes? The destruction in coastal states, especially Florida every couple of years. Some Insurance companies, (State Farm I believe for one) are no longer doing home owners in Florida. In some Midwest states like Iowa, Illinois and Missouri people build their homes too close to flood plains because of the great farming in the old river bottoms. Flooding has become a major issue because of poor practices by the Corp of Engineers and run off issues from the concrete jungles of neighboring cities. I'm sure folks in California would say that some of these issues are made worse by bad policies of local government as well. These are complex issues.

My guess is they are prepping as if they fly to LA, but are ready to wave off all the way up to take off. They play USC first, which is farther off from the fires, so maybe that one goes off, but it’s still a waste of resources. They should play at an alternate site. It’s like driving into a hurricane zone as the evacuation order is put into effect.
 
The winds are blowing toward the ocean, so air quality on the UCLA campus this morning is good. What may keep the games from being played is the need for police or other security to manage crowds. Maybe they’ll play in front of mostly empty arenas like they did during Covid.

There is no reason I know of why they couldn’t play in San Diego or someplace similar. How about Vegas? The home teams should have to play if possible, although I certainly have empathy for LA. Horrible.

I really want to play USC after they just beat Illinois. Classic let down game for them.
