People want stuff without paying for it. That is one thing that has really changed over the years, the people and businesses that dont want to pay taxes or more taxes but they want great infrastructure, roads, bridges, dams, airports, etc etc.

Reports said there was 3 million gallons of water stored high in the hills or whereever around LA. Well they need to pay to have 10-20 million gallons of water. This isnt rocket science.

They cant pump and use salt water but you sure as hell could have a large enough desalination program to maintain those 10-20 million gallons of emergency water supply.

I read the thread of the women yelling at Gov Newson about him trying to talk to the Prez. Yeah she was distressed but the LA fire protection plans are not the Gov's responsibility

As I've been thinking about this, moving forward maybe they need to have a separate fire fighting water supply from potable water supply?

But remember to CUT my taxes! We need the (expensive) services to maintain our lifestyle…but we don’t wanna pay for them! This is not just a Cali issue.

You keep saying this. California has the highest taxes in the country.
Yep. Might well be. I live in Iowa, not Cali. The people of Cali like their services and are willing to pay for them. They have tough decisions to make….as do the folks of several states. Water is a huge priority..and an expensive one, too.
I have several friends and a family member who live in Cali and tho they know it’s not perfect, none of them have ever mentioned they are fed up and ready to move somewhere else.

The solution for Los Angeles isn't more water it's less people. Could you build a water system that could handle this widespread of a fire I suppose, but the costs would be astronomical. It's not just storing water, you have to have pressure, you need electricity for pumps.

Could you build a city that is more fire resistant? That is an interesting idea to me.

Seems like California already has a pretty high tax burden Joel. Third highest state and local tax burden in the country. You think it sh be higher?
If the residents want updated water services and fire suppression binsfield, they are going to have to show a willingness to pay for the service updates. I think that means MORE taxes…I’m sure there would be federal $$ available, also… but you are talking $Billions$ here. A reassessment of priorities is probably needed too…but again, Cali isn’t unique here….plenty of infrastructure issues everywhere, including “red states” like Texas and Florida , where insurers are having second doubts about insuring property too. Conversations need to be had.

…or maybe local and state government should allocate where California’s already high taxes go better. Just a thought…..

10 zillion gallons of stored water wasn't going to stop this fire.

It still would have been like a squirt gun against it.

I swear I live in the absolute dumbest possible timeline with the absolute dumbest people.

It's a natural disaster, it's a hurricane of fire. The only possible prior solution would have been to not build up the areas that were built up and maybe, maybe do something about climate change.

MAGA are absolute complete scum and will now attack and try to gain political advantage over absolutely everything that happens in the world (except of course when there's a mass shooting event--then how dare you libs politicize it).

LOL that these hyper-capitalist, anti-tax, libertarian a-holes are now bitching that LA doesn't spend enough money on their fire dept.

Folks like the guy I'd posted about did not want to pay property taxes for the infrastructure they had; they would have outright revolted if having to pay for infrastructure 10x or 100x more "capable", and that would have been abandoned decades ago as "too expensive to maintain", anyway, even if they HAD built it..

There's not a big difference between California and Iowa. It does appear that to live in an area that is beautiful, with access to beaches, but is also subject to earthquakes and fires, you might have to pay a little more in taxes to handle the infrastructure needs required to account for those hazards.

That “argument” is really overstated Northern…Cali is arguably the most important state (economically) in the union…It has problems but its citizens and government have shown an inclination to mitigate or solve these issues.
They’ve really mitigated the homeless problem. 😉

They do pay more, 2.3% more than Iowa fwiw.

As the Dems generally say about the upcoming Trump presidency…let it burn.

Wait a minute, didn't liberals politicize the hell out of the pandemic to attack Trump? They acted like he himself was the cause of Covid, like it could have been stopped. Much like the these wildfires it was a beast too big to be contained. So were the liberals during the pandemic absolute scum?

Similar to how Trump/maga blamed Biden for the recent inflation?

Quit whining about life’s and politics, realities. However, Trump’s “drinking bleach” as a way to mitigate the Covid virus was a classic! That and shining a light up your ass…so don’t trust the science!
None of this addresses my point, but go on.
