I was a Baseball Player myself but the future is Lacrosse. Iowa needs to get Mens/Womens team into the BIG now in order to hope to compete in the future. It would require another sport being dropped I believe but so be it. Hope to see it happen!

That's a pretty tough sell. I like lacrosse, but lacrosse is such a regionally dominated sport and the regions that do play do not include the midwest. Recruiting would be a nightmare since it's not a high school sport in Iowa or really any other neighboring state that I know of. I'm ok dropping a sport (i.e gymnastics), but I would rather replace it with hockey. At least there's a bunch of junior teams in Iowa that could be feeders for that program.

I understand it's that way now Storm but I do think it's coming. It's a HS sport in Michigan, it's came on the last 10-15 years and today it's more popular than ever. Indiana, Michigan, Ohio are all States that Lacrosse is rising so fast. Illinois is also on the rise and one of the major recuiting servcies (like Rivals) is based out of Chicago. With it's crossover appeal to hockey, Minnesota and Wisconsin are states where Lacrosse has taken off too. It's the fastest growing sport, so I think it's coming. I would love to see Iowa in early and establish itself. Penn St and Ohio St got on board and they will reap the benefits.

I am all for hockey too! That would be great...the two fastest growing sports in America.

With the declining ticket sales for Football I don't see an AD looking to add additional expenses to an athletic budget that more than likely will be taking a major hit this year.

Pretty much this. You would have to eliminate a sport that is sanctioned by the IAHSAA (unless it's gymnastics) with one that isn't. On top of that Lacrosse or especially Hockey would be more expensive. The VERY BEST-drawing college Lacrosse teams in the eastern hotbeds barely attract 3,000 fans per game and while hockey may draw a better crowd it is also very expensive. With the new full cost-of-living payments schools will now be making to athletes the climate will probably be very rough for non-revenue sports from now on.

Got to be honest I've always felt this was a sport for east coast rich kids. Guys named Sanderson and their girlfriends named Miffy are into it.
