Laughing stock of the big ten

Iowa plays not to lose and sometimes that costs you. NDSU plays to win, how great/scary was their 2 pt attempt?! Two evenly matched teams. Those that like to refer to "directional schools" can stfu for awhile.
Great point. In retrospect, we'd have been better off had they converted. Never would I at the time thought Kirk would play not to lose when his defense had already proved they couldn't stop them.

When Daniels basically fell down on the first play of that drive, you knew the nuts were shriveled.

Oh I knew that's exactly what we would try to do on the first couple of plays.....see if the run works, and then when it doesn't, hope our guys can execute in a long down and distance obvious passing situation.

Dumb.

Fans who know football realize how good NDSU is and are glad their school of choice didn't have the poor sense to schedule them. Anyone laughing at Iowa doesn't realize how good NDSU is.

Two evenly matched teams.

Didn't look evenly matched to me. Unfortunately, it looked like NDSU was clearly the better team. The stats tell the story better than the scoreboard. Held Iowa to under 50 yards rushing and ran for over 200 yards against the Hawks. Those are humiliating numbers, the type of numbers I might expect to see if Iowa was playing Ohio State or Alabama, not NDSU.

And this is why Iowa is irrelevant on the national scene. New contract back to KF 1.0, although I never really believed for a moment there was ever a 2.0.

Went for it on 4th down, to set up the score early. NOT a Kirk 1.0 call. Easy to overlook this and just complain. This was simply a story of half time adjustments and overall motivation. I have no idea what goes on in the locker room at half time, but it clearly needs analysis by the staff.

For the record, I am STILL on the fence on Kirk after all these years. Just being objective about what I saw today. Kudos to NDSU. They know how to execute, motivate, and punch a team in the mouth when they show weakness.

That 62 yard run to start the second half was a thing of beauty. But when the holding penalty negated it, it looked like the whole team was completely deflated. They never looked confident the rest of the game (except those snaps when Stanley was in there).

Motivation - as I said. (And you quoted)

Yeah, I know, but I think the team came out motivated and they beat the crap out of NDSU on that play, but when it got called back it just seemed to drain the life from the team. I guess what I'm getting at is that it wasn't a halftime adjustment or motivation problem, but a failure to regain momentum and motivation after that play. I could understand for a series, but the whole half? Anyway, we're parsing hairs here. I essentially agree with you, just think the motivation problem wasn't a halftime issue but the result of a mental/physical error during a huge play. Oddly enough, if the play had only gone for three yards and then there was the holding call it might not have sapped their motivation so much.

No one has mentioned Wadley(sp?). I think I only saw him on 1 or 2 plays. I think that hurt - a lot. Also, unless you are Mich. or Ohio, losing your starting center and guard will hurt. Pretty sure Daniels and Welch(welsh?) are starters for a reason.

Respectfully disagree. You point to one play to reflect the new 2.0 and there were about 25 that are from the 1.0 playbook. There were three on the last offensive Hawk series alone. And, we won't even talk about the lousy defense. Oh, I forgot vanilla defense per several posters after MO game..

I thought we were the team that looked intimidated the whole game.

I don't disagree. I just thought with the kickoff and the first play of the second half (the run called back) Iowa had a swagger. It went away instantly after the penalty. Sucks.

Don't know. Wadley had 4 carries for 20 yards. He had one carry for 18 yards so his other 3 carries netted 2 yards. Not sure what went on there.
