Lazard quote . Big if true...

Bingo. This is like the other thread about how King is going to concentrate on Lazard. If the players and coaches need inside information and/or bulletin board material to prepare for this game, I would be stunned.

I think that was true back in the days of Hayden's 15-game winning streak. I think that's why he made shit up about Walden, etc., to try to get his boys interested in playing. But I give the Hawks and their coaches credit for being smart enough to get up for this game without gimmicks.

Lone - please enlighten us on this. I remember Walden commented that he wished ISU was in the BIG at that time. Until someone reminded him his record was 0-20 vs BIG opponents. Mr Walden supposedly also had a picture of Hayden in his office.

I went to Iowa State for a year back when Walden was the coach. He lectured a class I was taking one day and it was one hour of of complete time wasting Hayden Fry and Iowa Bashing. I was amused because Walden was Hayden's little bitch on the field, and here is a coach acting like he owns the Hawks. As far as Hayden making shit up about Walden, I don't see where he needed to. When Walden wasn't bashing Fry, he was bashing the Hawkeye QB Dan McGwire, stating how McGwire couldn't carry the water at Iowa State. Didn't McGwire get drafted after transferring to San Diego State? I cannot say what would happen if Hayden Fry or Kirk Ferentz were to lecture a class at Iowa. but I doubt either one would waste time bashing the other state institution.

I'm pretty sure Lazard wasn't involved in that play......which was definitely Keystone Kops, and indicative of the way ISU played most of the night on offense

That's RB Mike Warren (2) getting the handoff and being crushed by WR Trever Ryen (19) coming across. Jaypee Philbert (56) was clueless about who he was supposed to block. Or maybe not....looking at it again, I think the play was supposed to go off right guard, and there was a hole there. If one person was in the wrong place, it looks like it was Ryen....who, incidentally, didn't get up for a long time and subsequently missed several plays.

Lazard wasn't even involved in the play.
Never let facts get in the way of a good dig.

(I assumed, since this was a Lazard thread, that he was involved in the gif. Didn't bother looking, to be honest)

If Iowa and the rest of the big 10 is a joke, what does that make ISU....

Oh that's right, nothing. They are completely irrelevant to college football outside of a group of goat farmers.

I hope Iowa makes a statement.

I think you're the one making shit up.

Doesn't matter....his loser ass was sitting at home with no bowl game at all.
Exactly. Just a down right silly tweet. Period. Truly hope we hang 50+ on them for once. Or not...whatever...if we beat them by 14 they will consider it a win so that should tell you how relevant they are.

Walden had a photo of Hayden in his office, he said, to remind him of the importance of the game. He said when he was at Washington State, he had a photo of Don James in his office. So what?

I drank more than a few beers with him over the years. I heard him say a lot of things he wouldn't have said in public. I never heard him say a negative thing about Hayden, his staff or his players.

Fry was claiming Walden had dissed the Hawks, etc.....hell, that was the basis of Bulemia's tirade at Walden after the game one year.

Are you a Jim Walden fan then? I think there are plenty of Iowa fans out there who wish he'd had a longer tenure at ISU. :p

I liked him personally. I thought he did a lot of good things. He got really, really screwed by the people who were in charge of the university when he was there, and the last couple of seasons, IMHO he gave up and pretty much just showed up for work. It wasn't just that he didn't get any support from the administration, which he didn't; he was actively hampered by some people who didn't want ISU to succeed in football at a high level. He inherited a god-awful mess.

I certainly wouldn't defend a lot of what he did. He probably should have been fired before he was. But while he left the program in bad shape, he left it in better shape than it was when he was hired.

He would have made somebody a terrific offensive coordinator.

Funny coming from a guy whose team is 5-20 in his college career and 1-2 vs FCS schools. With the Big 12 getting blasted by Clemson in the playoffs and Ole Miss destroying Okie St in Sugar Bowl last season. Plus his freshman year I remember Sparty beating Baylor whom everyone thought should be one of the big 12 playoff teams in the Cotton Bowl. His decision to go where he did with all his college offers tell me all you need to know about his level of intelligence.

FINALLY an intelligent post by someone in the KNOW.

Tirade? Was there more to the story than I remember? I thought he just told him he enjoyed kicking his a** for four years. Is that a tirade in your world?

Called him a prick, among other things.

'You've been a big ass, it's been fun kicking your ass for four years' according to Walden. Is there more to this 'tirade' now I did read it reported that it was prick rather than ass. With all of the reporters present I am sure someone recorded it word for word. A total classless move but pretty skimpy on the 'tirade' meter.

He went up to him after the game and said, "I loved kicking your ass for four years." is hardly a tirade. He called him a "big ass" not a prick. Embellish much?

I do remember reading an article after ISU ended Iowa's winning streak the qb Bandhauer said this after the game "Coach McCarney’s always talking about how great Hayden Fry is, but Hayden Fry we kicked your ass!”

Only difference between Bielema and Bandhauer is that one said it to the coaches face and other said it to the media.

I didn't like what Bilema did, and Bandhauer's comments aren't much better, but really...not a big deal either way imo.

Lazard's comments don't bother me as an Iowa or B1G fan. They just embarrass him in my opinion. He's driving a beat up 1984 pinto and talking shit about the scratch on his buddies BMW.

I am sure lone will be along to comment on Bandhauers 'tirade'

He called him a prick. Not surprisingly, most media didn't report it verbatim. KCRG-TV had video of it.

That's odd. There was video of the whole thing, but no one heard the prick part. I can't find the video on youtube, but this is the first I have heard this claim.

Honestly, makes no difference either way. What he did was bad enough. Bielema is an asshole.

I knew a guy who played at Iowa the same time Bielema was there. Let's just say his reputation of being an a-hole was richly deserved--and I mean Bielema of course.

Even better question when was the last time ISU was even ranked? Seriously has it been close to a decade or even longer? Pretty sure none of Rhoad's teams ever were and know Chizik's weren't.

Iowa State has made 40 appearances in the Associated Press poll over 10 seasons, including 1 week in the Top 10. Iowa State has finished the year ranked in the final Associated Press poll of the season only twice:

1976 -- 19
2000 -- 25
