Well, besides Chumlee, I'll start out with the people who come into the shop with an item that have no idea the value of. They throw out a number, then Rick tells them it's worth five times that, and then they ask for exactly that number, or even more for the item.

I agree with that.

I'd say all the people that somehow believe that selling something to a pawn shop is the same as selling something on the open market - so they should get the full value for the item. I get that this pawn shop is on TV, but it's still a pawn shop, and they're still going to buy it for less, so they can sell it for profit. This isn't a new business model for pawn shops.

In his book Rick says that he doesn't like to rip people off when they have a valuable item they ask little or nothing for. But he goes on to say very clearly it isn't his job to tell them what they have, it's their job to know what its worth, so I am sure his charity is just for the cameras.

Hi Sir, I have this rock I found in my grandma's attic.
Uh....I believe that's the Hope Diamond, but let me get my buddy who's an expert on Hope Diamonds.
Hi Rick, what's up?
I think this guy just brought in the Hope Diamond.
Let me take a look. Well, you can see here that it is a giant fugging blue diamond. Let's test it. Skrreeeeeeeee!!!!. Yep, that's a daimond.
So what are you saying?
It looks like this guy found the Hope Diamond in his grandma's attic.
So what's something like this worth?
Well, we all know that diamonds are a scam right? But people say the value of this one is between 200-350 million dollars at auction.
Ok, thanks!
So guy, what do you want to do with this?
I want to sell it!
And what are you looking to get out of it?
I want $350 million!!
Well, that's what he said the top value at auction is. I'm not an auction house. And I got costs, like feeding my dad and chumlee. So the best I can offer you is $500k.
What?? You heard him, it's worth 10 times that much!!!!
Yeah, but I mean, it's not even new.
How about $250 million?
The best I can do is $650k cash. Right now. Cash money. In hundreds.
Well.....................................thanks, but I think I'm just going to put it on the mantle and show it off to friends.
That's cool, thanks for bringing it in.

Pawn Stars is still a thing? Rick Harrison is a bigtime MAGAT so there's that.
Rick has been very smart to keep his views out of the public view. It probably endears him to some, but the History Channel might get scared and pull the show if he started saying he was stealing something by paying a low price, just like Joe Biden stole the election.

He's not so anonymous on the faux network.

My favorite was Olivia Black.

They dumped her because they found out she was sort of a PORN STAR!

Seriously? They let those fat wads Cory and Chumley on TV, but a gal who does light lesbian work and rolls around in the ground as she pours chocolate syrup all over herself is too much?

I think, at that point, she'd only been on Suicide Girls. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that was the depth of her "deprivation" when she was fired. I believe she tried some litigation, but it failed.

I've met Jesse Amoroso, of Cowtown Guitars at a few big-time guitar shows (in Dallas). He's a good dude. Those "encounters" are all staged. I also have a friend in the Vegas area who knows Mark, Clarke Co. museum curator and she said Mark is an awesome guy, very philanthropic and super smart.

I like the show. I even think Chumlee is fine when he’s not trying to buy stuff. Him and Corey get this weird poker face (and try to copy Rick) when they are trying to make a deal. Anybody that is clearly just impersonating someone else bugs me.

But what bothers me the most is the repetition. “I came into the pawn shop today to try to sell my 1964 Yankees hat” (followed by baseball bat sound effect and crowd noise)

What I hate is that they obviously rehearse before every deal, so it appears they know about the history of the item in question. I mean, all four of them would likely score average to very low on any type of standardized IQ test.

Every once in a while it feels like they’re caught off guard. I remember one where a guy brought in an original Super Mario Bros NES cartridge. First run, sealed, etc. and wanted a cool $1M for it. Watching Rick’s face when he said that, it looked actually legit. Like, you gotta be f’ing kidding me legit. I’d agree though, most seem like they’ve been through it two or three times.
