Lets face it; the haters are waiting for Iowa to lose

They have been setting up that narrative for a while. We lose to MSU it will be "see ,look what happens when you actually play somebody"

we lose in the first playoff game and it will be "see, this is what happens when you play the big boys"

It will be interesting to hear the narrative if they make it to the final game

you should have made this the official "no respect" thread so we wouldn't have 100 of them over the next couple days
Exactly, like this hasn't been discussed a 1,000 times already !!!!!! Stop F'ing worrying about what others think, we believe that's all that matters !!!!!!

Yes and it's honestly fair as I mentioned elsewhere.

We had ZERO credibility built up in our bank account coming into this season because we spent 5 years out of the top 25. Not one or two years,,,, 5 years. Can you blame someone for doubting us? That's also the reason this fan base had a mutiny after last year's debacle with a more manageable schedule than this year. It was a total lost opportunity. In the meantime OSU & Meyer were winning a lot including a national title. MSU was winning a ton of games and got a huge Rose Bowl win. Wisky was winning a ton also including a big bowl win over the SEC. OSU is a blue blood so they are always accepted nationally but MSU & Wisky get the benefit of the doubt now too because of what they have done recently.

Next year we will get a little more acceptance because this season represents our first deposit in our national street cred bank account. Winning the B1G championship would be huge for the size of this year's deposit. Winning a game in the playoffs ups it that much more. Winning our bowl game if we lose helps some too to at least validate our 12 wins. That's how it works - you gotta prove it on a national stage especially if you are not a blue blood and only a few schools are.

I would bet that this week on BTN, there will be all kinds of talk about Connor Cook being the best quarterback since the second coming. Iowa will get far less coverage. Why hell, if you didn't know Iowa was playing in the championship game, you might think Michigan State was playing with themselves.

yeah, if we lose MSU, look out!!

I don't have a problem with the media thing. I do think our schedule has been tougher than most realize, but a in over a tOSU, MSU, or Michigan would have gone a long way toward bolstering our resume. Of course, you can only play who they put in front of you.

Interestingly, I see quite a few parallels between this year's Iowa team and the tOSU team of 2002-03 with Maurice Clarett and company. They won lots of close games, some of which were over very bad teams. They needed some last-minute heroics to pull out some of those wins. I know Iowa fans weren't impressed buy their regular season resume. Everyone said Miami would blow them out, etc. Despite their undefeated record, nobody seemed to give them a chance and they came into the championship game as underdogs. They then proceeded to beat Miami and win the national championship. They just kept winning. Didn't score a lot of style points along the way, but they just kept winning. Sound familiar?

Look it's fair. If we want to get the love we have to prove it on the field against the best. Until then we are second fiddle.

Also Cook is thought to be the #1 QB in this year's NFL draft. Talk about him is justified?

Has that happened? I've gotta start watching the new closer instead of just looking for things in my facebook feed. ;)

If and when we do, they will say "I told you so. You may have lost later than I expected, but I told you so."

Let's just win on Saturday and shut them up.

3 more wins......

GO HAWKS!!!!
Just win. That's all you gotta do. Kirk was right when he said Iowa isn't sexy. So let's be the big ugly broad that takes the cake!! Go Hawks.

So in other words.....only the "name" programs should ever be playing for the national championship.

That is bullcrap. The talking heads think this way, and you have fallen for it, too. The intent (supposedly) is to have the season's top teams play for the championship. Past years' results have ZERO relevance for this season.

I think he is just being a realist. If I was looking for ratings, I'd bash Iowa too...the fanbase comes unglued over everything anyone says.;)

This is made for TV event that ESPN paid top dollar for. Last time I checked college football is a business and life is not fair.

They will take a non 'blue blood program' that does not have a recent history of winning big games like Iowa but only under the condition ..... we win all of our games. If we have a loss to Wisky as an example we would not be in the top 8 right now. If OSU has our exact schedule and loses early to Wisky they are in the top 4 right now. That's the difference in perception and credibility.

We have an opportunity to prove ourselves by winning some more on the national stage which does help our case going forward. Next year our program will be more known and we will be given more credence up front having won 12. Does not mean we will capitalize but just watch.

A good thing to learn as a young man: The closer you get to the top, the harder it becomes to stay there. The more you have, the harder you have to work to keep it.

Agreed. Just like many (including me) were waiting for Notre Dame to lose again. And now I want Stanford to lose again. :)

Nothing that can be said by the talking heads will add, or subtract, from the number of Hawkeyes fans that will be watching this game. Heck, even the Cyclones fans will be watching too.
