Lets go METS!

NY Yankees offer to Soto.....$760 million for 16 years

NY Mets offer to Soto.....$765 million for 15 years plus $75 million
signing bonus.

Bottom Line: Soto got $80 million more from the Mets. This $765 million
is an insane salary for MLB. Hopefully he does not get seriously injured
in the next 15 years. The $75 million bonus for signing was the major
difference maker in Soto becoming a NY Met.

The average annual doesn't bother me.

The number of years though is absolute insanity that seems oh so Classic Mets Desperation at its finest.

Sorta sad to see soto end up a met. love the guy as a player. True that the contract is mind boggling, but he's a unicorn in how young he is.

I'm not a baseball guy but has one ever paid off?

I’d be tempted to use Jason Hayward’s contract with the Cubs as an example: 8 years for $184M. The #’s at the plate were mostly “meh” during his Cubs tenure. But he supposedly gave the clubhouse speech before the 10th inning of game 7 of the 2016 WS - during the rain delay in Cleveland.

So….I guess…priceless?

Radio report said he can opt out after 5 years. Just incase he is underpaid at $51 million a year at that time.

I don't understand paying guys for a decade into their late 30s and 40s, but I guess that's the market they allowed to be created.
