Fascism went through a stark semantic shift during and after WW2. Most people use it to signify a right-wing authoritarian style of leadership rather than the original strictly Italian political party definition. The usage is so prolific it's almost silly to try to pull it back to it's original roots, similar to getting hung up on the word socialist in the national socialist party.
