Liam Robbins

I think they are capable of it with Robbins, yes. You do not?

No I do not. The Pomeroy rankings are a much better indicator of team ability than the NET rankings. They account of strength of opponent. Drake is 56 in Pomeroy, Minnesota is 24. Fantastic season by Drake so far, Devries has done an amazing job. But here are the Pomeroy rankings of the teams they've beaten.

Southern Illinois (2) - 190
Kansas State - 156
South Dakota (2) - 174
Nebraska-Omaha - 264
St. Ambrose - non Division I
McKendree - non Division I
Air Force - 276
Chicago State - 356
North Dakota - 307
Indiana State (2) - 151

Woof, they have defeated a bunch of bad teams. When Kansas State is almost the best team on your schedule, you have played literally no one. Now, to their credit they have won most of those games by big margins. Beat K-State by 10 and Indiana State by 7. With Robbins, they would undoubtedly be better, but no way, no how Drake would beat Iowa, Michigan and OSU with Robbins.

I haven't seen Drake play, but they haven't played a decent team yet. Are any of those opponents even ranked ahead of the Huskers?

I have no idea why he left but how good would Drake be this year if Liam Robbins had stayed?

No idea? I think it may be reasonable what the main or true reason was but pretty easy to think an opportunity to play in pier 5 conference is hard to pass up.

Well how much better than 13-0 would they be? Drake was his best offer, he was a total project at the time. Drake coached the hell out of him and he also worked really hard on his body to get in much better shape. Kids transfer all the time anymore but Drake is fine without him. Their current Center is a transfer from Seton Hall who was more highly rated out of high school. He’s had a lot of injury problems which have held him back. He’s just now rounding into shape. I look for him to really break out next year.

I thought the same thing watching Minny manhandle Michigan yesterday, but then looking at Drake right now, it seems to have worked out well for all parties involved. Sure would have been nice to have brought Robbins in to take over for Luka next season, but he obviously made the right decision for himself.

Who knows I guess. We'll see when they start playing better teams come tourney time, although its certainly possible that Robbins would not be playing as well as he is now if he hadn't gone to the BIG and be playing games against Garza, Dickenson etc... Minnesota's first 8 conference games ALL against ranked teams. Crazy....

Robbins is exactly the kind of player McCaffery should be combing the woods for, either a freshman or a transfer. When Luka is gone, we are going to sorely need a talented big man. Seems like every other school goes out and "recruits" a transfer from another program to fill their gaps. Wish Robbins would have considered Iowa as a destination.
