Living Legends do not have a .580 Conference winning percentage....they do not stand head and shoulders above their peers in losses when favored by double digits. Getting more than a little tired of the "We could do much worse crowd" when you have a 30 something year old Lincoln Riley shooting for a National Championship in year ONE...after not taking over until summer. Seriously, I'm just getting tired of watching other teams play for National Championships. And please do not give me 2015...that was nothing more than easy scheduling. Longevity, running a clean program, and being a good guy does not make you a living legend....sorry.

Go be a Kansas fan for a while and see which you prefer.

I'd say Ohio State but that'd be too obvious.

Iowa is in the middle because we are meant to value winning more when it does happen.

When we get too greedy though, that's when fate quickly reminds us why our program that we chose to root for (key word being chose....) is in the middle, and not an elitist snob.

Deal with it or move on to the next team. You're welcome.

Pouring millions of dollars of your own money into directly helping sick and dying children will always trump winning National Titles. Always. Without exceptions. It’d be great if we could do both, but we have an incredible steward of our program representing the values of Iowans at the helm.

I don’t care (and neither does Kirk) if we give him a statue or call him a “Living Legend” but plenty of children and families would vote for these honors being bestowed on The Captain.

Go be a Tennessee fan for a while. They have more 4 and 5 star recruits on their roster each year than Iowa has had this century and most years we have a much better team than they do. I am not always in agreement with Coach Ferentz’s game day decisions, but he has kept Iowa as a relevant Big Ten program. Each year Iowa is in the top 20 as far as value goes according to Forbes.
Bottom line big Frank. You are probably just trolling or you are none too bright. Either way, you have no idea what you are talking about.

You bring up Lincoln Riley like he’s an outsider who brought in a whole new staff and turned around a program who went winless the last few years.

WOW....one win over BC and all is forgiven. Ok, I will be storing these comments in my memory bank for after the next FCS loss....how low the bar has been lowered for some of you is just plain sad and pathetic. So to be "next level" you have to be an elitist? Do you think that the four (4) teams playing today or their fans really care what you call them? I'm jealous of what they have frankly.

KF has been a fine coach for Iowa, but he's hardly of legendary status. And if you're paid millions of dollars for a couple of decades, I don't see why some people think it's so amazing that some of those millions are donated to worthy causes. C'mon, people. Be reasonable.

No, you don’t have to be elitist. Fry went 6-4-3 in ‘88 and 5-6 in ‘89 before going 8-3 in ‘90, a year which produced a Rose Bowl bid.

Where is this make-believe/invisible bar that you are setting? Do tell.

I’d be interested in seeing something comparable from other coaches.

I think you are so talented to be able to store things in your memory bank! That is really neat. You happen to think Iowa can do much better than with Coach Ferentz at the helm. I think you would be hard pressed to find another coach who could match his record in the past 19 years. Can you store this in your memory bank?

Yes, Ferentz has donated $1million to Children's Hospital. That's commendable. But, let's put it in perspective. That's a small percentage of what Ferentz has made at Iowa in almost two decades. Correct me if I am wrong but I think this is the first million he has donated. I know that he and Mary have donated $100,000 more than once. So, has it totaled almost 2 million, 3 million or more over 19 years? I don't know.

Whatever your thoughts of Kirk are, he's going to be a College Football Hall of Famer eventually for his accomplishments so guess it depends if you consider every HOFer a legend, or is their a "best of the best" criteria required. The threshold is a personal preference of course. Are Ruth, DiMaggio and Mantle ALL legends, or is it just Ruth because his bar is still so much higher than the others that record hitting streaks and Triple Crowns are still not good enough in comparison. Are Hayden, Bo, Woody, Tom Osborne, etc not real legends because they aren't Bear Bryant? Or are they still better than almost all but a few that ever coached the game?

We have a lot of talent coming back, I love our recruiting class, and I saw glimpses of what could be an elite team in BFs first year at OC, so I for one am excited to see if we can get to that next level if that's alright with you. What exactly are you proposing? We buy KF out and start over right now? It's hard to believe that's a serious position at this moment.

You can do better than this. I've heard all this before by actual Iowa fans.

Be more creative.

And somehow all of the top recruits for these schools coincidently have really nice new cars! I just don’t know how they find these kids.

Go become a Bama fan if all you care about is winning. Better yet, completely take the scholastic ties out of it (formally) and stick to Sunday’s.

There’s more to a great program than winning alone. Especially in the talent-deprived Midwest. This is COLLEGE athletics.

And if you feel otherwise, please contact our squirrelly friends to the north how they’re doing.

so you don't really care how we win, just as long as we win....is this correct?

Do you know how few people make million dollar gifts, especially given his age? It's not many. Further, you assume other gifts he's made have been publicized, which isn't always the case.

While Popovich was speaking with reporters ahead of Tuesday's game against the Nets, he began discussing why he gave back to the community through charity and other works, and his comments were just what you'd expect from Pop.

According to ESPN's Michael C. Wright, Pop said that it was important for him and others in a similar situation to give back "Because we’re rich as hell and we don’t need it all, and other people need it. Then, you're an a-- if you don't give it. Pretty simple."

When you put it that way coach, it is pretty simple.

you make it sound like they are billionaires.....

I like Kirk, he's obviously runs a clean program, has had some very good years, dean of the BIG10 coaches, etc.

The only part that I'm not wild about is him continuously setting up his son to take over by advancing him faster than others mostl likely would be advanced. Not that Brian isn't good, but I just don't like nepotism. Never looks good and usually doesn't turn out well. We have strict policies against it in the corporate world. I just don't like a coach setting up his son to take over. Isn't working well for Snyder right now at K-State either.

I hope your in better condition then Frank Cannon. LOL

I agree with this, only to the extent that I believe that coaches actually control the next move after they leave. They generally don’t have much say in who replaces them.

That said, I look at it differently. If you want someone who has your same disposition and values but can bring in a new perspective, no better person to do that than your son.

I’d be interested in your perspective, VodkaSam. Who do you think would have been a quality & realistic alternative to Brian as OC?

Also, am I the only one who doubts Brian will end up as our next coach? I give it a 20% chance, even though I am rooting for it to happen b/c it means we will have had big success over the next 3-5 yrs.

That's a great question, and I can't answer it. I do remember the summer we hired Greg Davis. We were on vacation and met some folks from Texas. They couldn't believe we hired him. Said he ran the Texas offense into the ground. I guess what I'm saying there is it would have been good, maybe to go after an OC that was seeing great success somewhere else or had a strong resume. Hayden built an incredible legacy/coaching tree - one of the all time best in college football history. Who has Kirk developed to the next level?

One of the things we are strongly measured on in the corporate world is talent development/management. We are graded on hiring/developing/promoting hi-potential managers and supervisors to be tomorrow's managers and VPs. I can tell you one thing that is not allowed, in any situation, is a relative reporting directly, or even indirectly, to another relative. It has to do with accountability and dynamics. For example, in the case of Iowa, if an assistant coach has a legitimate issue with Brian, who is he going to go to? No one, or Kirk gets rid of him. Makes for bad team dynamics, because in a bad situation, suddenly BF could become a "Jared Kushner" type of untouchable figure (I know, bad example).

Then go be a fan of those "cheatin" schools.

Is BF being accelerated any faster than he would have otherwise? I don't know, I'm asking. He was a position coach for Belichick while in his 20s, which is quite an accomplishment. Bill O'Brien wanted him on his staff with the Texans as either OL coach or O-coordinator.

In the case of BF vs Snyder's son at K-State, there are big differences. Sean Snyder has never been anywhere else except at K-State, he has never called a play or coordinated anything other than special teams. BF did go out and coach elsewhere (Patriots) and actually have to prove himself. Belichick doesn't hire people or promote them to position coaches as favors.

As others have said, the only way BF becomes the head man right after KF is if Iowa wins a lot in the next few years. If that doesn't happen, he won't be the next head coach. And he might not be even if Iowa wins a lot.
