lol, bears are a disaster

Eberflus should have called a timeout. Williams also could have called a timeout. Williams also could have snapped the ball sooner instead of letting an extra 6 seconds run off the clock after they were lined up. Those 6 seconds meant the difference between the game ending versus having time for another play.
They weren’t lined up properly until 9 seconds. They had too many on the line of scrimmage until that moment. The also had receiver in the endzone at the end of previous play and they all had too many sprint back.

It was bad coaching. You don’t make your receiving core sprint back down the field and get set up for a crucial 3rd down play that they need to pick up 6 yards for a first down or 9-10 for a field goal.

You call the time out with 32 seconds. Call a good play with the idea of getting a first down and spike the ball. Run another play and get yards and spike the ball again if you don’t get out of bounds.

It was 3rd and 26 so getting the first down really wasn’t an option. They needed 5-8 yards and the original call was for a QB draw and hopefully get this 5-8 yards, call timeout and kick the fg. The confusion was did the coaches or Williams change the play to a quick out to get more yards and get out of bounds, which is why they weren’t lined up quickly enough. Either way, the management was brutal and Eberflus should be fired.

The entire final minute was horrible game and clock management by both the coaches and the QB. On first down Williams badly missed a wide open Moore on a crossing route that would have given the Bears 1st and goal. Then on 2nd down they completed a nice pass that would have been a first down. But Jenkins ripped a defender’s helmet off, so instead it’s now 2nd and 20. Then for reasons that aren’t clear because the cameras were focused on everything except the field, the Bears couldn’t get lined up in time and had to burn a timeout to avoid a delay of game. Then Williams gets sacked with 32 seconds left and against all logic they only manage one more play even though they still have a timeout left.

As for everyone lining up for the final play, you can have 10 guys on the LOS if you want to. They just can’t run downfield if they’re covered up. But even if they snapped the ball with 8 seconds left there would have been enough time for another play.

The coaches certainly deserve their share of blame for that debacle, but you can’t just absolve Williams of any responsibility.

HC needs to own it. Caleb is a rookie at the end of the day. You can place some blame on him, but HC is a man and he’s 40 lol.

If Eberflus doesn’t get fired for the shit show at the end of the game, he should get fired for his explanation.

He says the Bears handled it right and then went off on some tangent about reracking the play and 12 and 7 seconds marks. It’s like an 8th grader giving a report on a book he skimmed.

Defending running out of time with a timeout in your pocket should get you fired.

As a Packer fan I hope they keep him, but he should def be fired lol.

It’s a family business and firing him mid season and paying somebody else to coach means that the money is literally coming out of one of the owner’s kids or grandkids’ Christmas stocking at this point. It’s not happening.

My guess on the last series’ time management is that the bears are too cheap to pay an analyst to keep track of it like any good organization does. Why does he have the worst record in challenges in the league? My guess is the same. They used to have to play the replay instantly for Lovie on the Jumbotron because the bears wouldn’t pay somebody to sit in the booth to tell him what to do. It’s just a bad organization that won’t pay for anything that doesn’t show up on the salary cap.

All former nfl players, analysts and journalists are ripping eberflus and eberflus alone. It's 100% on the coach

TJ busting out all the talking points from casuals. Hilarious

The guy sets the rookie record for most passes in a row without an interception. Something something mental aspect. GMAFB.

Comes back against the best team in football on the road and from the 1 yard line on last drive. Even with god awful penalties from kmet and Jenkins.

But he missed a throw to moore. BUST!!! Didn't he get rocked on that throw?

Larry borom blowing an assignment that lead to a sack. Flus should have called a timeout immediately after.

He didn't line them up right or blah blah blah, dumb statement.

Questioning his leadership? Lol. As a rookie even?? Even dumber.

What are we even talking about here. CJ stroud was the aberration of rookie QBs and even he sucks now. Williams is having a very good rookie season, is improving at a rapid pace and done it while having the worst offensive line and coaching staff in the NFL. People pushing negative judgements are just casuals or haters.

See Bob's post ^^^ about the McCaskey's, I don't think they have ever fired a HC in season. Also, the entire staff should have been fired after the Washington debacle.

I think it is 4 straight games they have lost on the final play of the game.

Williams is just as responsible as Eberflus for the end of game clock mismanagement.
If Williams were a longtime NFL vet I'd agree. I give him a bit more slack as the QB, he has taken many steps forward this year - especially since they canned Waldron. Eberflus is a longtime coaching veteran and as soon as he saw his QB was stuck and the clock was dipping below 15 seconds he should have called timeout.
Williams has some really bad habits that are costing the Bears games. His coaches are not helping him much, but how hard is to run 2 plays with 30 seconds left and a timeout?
Williams plays like a rookie - single biggest is learning when to simply get rid of the ball if the play is dead. He's a good enough athlete that he still thinks he can dance around and make the big play whenever he wants. And to be fair, he's done that a few times this year.

He needed to show more urgency at the end, but if nothing else, as soon as Eberflus saw he was not rushing like he needed to, he should have bailed him out and called timeout. There's not another coach in the league that would have done the same.

There were two games under Trestman where they were getting blown out at halftime, one was against the Patriots iirc, where it would have been justifiable to fire the entire coaching staff at halftime if not just Mel Tucker, and they didn’t do it. This is nowhere near that bad.

Business as usual. Eberflus just met with the media, he says today is a normal day.

And listening to him process yesterday is enough to fire him. I’m still not sure he understands what happened and how he could change it if they are in this situation again.

The Bears are the laughingstock of the NFL. I still think there’s a good chance he’s fired this weekend.

6 straight losses, 6 straight games without an interception. First time in the Super Bowl era.

He’s the long term answer. Rookies don’t go as long as he has without throwing picks. He’s going to get better and better.
Agree. Caleb is fine.

On the other hand I thought the Bears should have stuck with Fields and concentrated on other areas in last years draft. :)

Like the o-line. Which seems determined to ruin Caleb....like it did Fields.

The casuals just watch Monday Nights and Thanksgiving. But even MNF is watered down with multiple games. I used to go to nearly every Thanksgiving game at the Silverdome in the ‘90s. I didn’t watch Iowa either last weekend, and I’m a Hawk fan. Sue me.
So you're beneath even the casuals in your fandom then... adds up.

Ok but your were factually wrong and don't know our schedule. You are a casual fan, if you don't even know basics like that

Not a matter of suing anyone just calling it out

Hi, you're already paying that other coach. Interim tag doesn't come with a pay way.

So your entire premise is wrong.

K thx bye

Didn't even make it five hours

Just this game. I think this was the first one that Dan Campbell won. You have to understand that I’ve had over 30 years of learning not to get my hopes up for any good things to happen to us. This is still a relatively new feeling.

No. You and I just have a different definition of “high profile”.

He could have a winning record and the end of that game could have been a fireable offense.
That was even worse clock management than the Iowa lsu game.
