Looks like the inclusion of the Huskers has already dramatically altered at least one longstanding "rivalry" in the B1G.

I wonder if Michigan State fans were like this through the years being the 3rd wheel in the Ohio St/Michigan rivalry? Obviously, Wisconsin has never beaten Nebraska in Lincoln and won't again this year. Wisconsin players singling out and talking trash about Nebraska in the B1G Media Days (Corey Clement specifically) shows it's naturally becoming a true rivalry.

I think this is the future for Iowa football in the B1G West. A co-worker/Ohio St grad told me Ohio State and Mich State fans generally get along quite well with their mutual disdain for Michigan. Ohio St/Michigan being the true rivalry and Michigan St being little brother throughout the years.

Iowa fans are already on their knees for and are living vicariously through Wiscy in less than 5 years after Neb joins the league lol.

"If you can't beat em, join em" am I right?

Thoughts on Wisconsin/Iowa no longer being a rivalry?

i have no idea why i would live vicariously through wisky. i will say, they have shown that they can be competitive year after year.....

it made me sick seeing bucky fans jumping up and down on the Kinnick turf after the 2010 game (thanks whoever thought it was a good idea to sit opposing fans on field level behind the goalpost). Its a shame the hawkeyes couldnt close the deal the last few outings against them, but as a hawkeye fan its hard to have any expectations lately.
with all of that said, outside of the week Iowa plays them, I couldn't care less what they do.

Well guess Iowa Wisconsin is no longer a rivalry since old husker Ray proclaimed it here. Get rid of the trophy. However I thought husker fans only came here cause of the claim of all the husker threads (1 out of 50 on first page).

Secondly no one here gives a crap what a wisky player says about Nebraska. Even more people could not care less about your feeble troll attempt about living through wisky. Followed by a lol, what are you a 12 yr old girl texting? Maybe post it on your husker board if you want to get some laughs.

No troll. This has become a reality you're just refusing to see.

The big dogs in the West are developing a natural, true rivalry in the newly formed division already. Not one of those fake little trophy rivalries that players don't care about.

To add insult to injury, you have fellow hawk fans using a "rival" to flame a "rival." Look around. Been going on for a few years now.

Realizes this is bau.*)

You provided us with a troll comment and then absolutely nothing to back it up. Well, I shouldn't say that, you provided something. It just had absolutely nothing to do with the argument you're trying to make, whatsoever.

3/10 and your consolation prize:

Wisconsin fans have Minnesota and Iowa to deal with before they consider Nebraska the big rivalry on their schedule each year. Big game in the division? Sure why not (they're 3-1 against you btw, since you joined the B10). Biggest game on the schedule? When you got teams like Bama and LSU in the non-conf, and Ohio State and Michigan State every so often in recent years, Nebraska becomes an afterthought, even moreso than their rivals Iowa and Minnesota. Deal with it.

Wisconsin fans get along with Iowa fans and vice versa better than they do with Minnesota fans. That doesn't diminish the rivalry at all.

You and the other Nebraska fans are just butthurt that Wisconsin embarrassed you multiple times since you joined the Big Ten and you've turned into their gimps. You'll talk sh**, but all Wisconsin has to do is raise that pimp hand and back into the cage you Huskers crawl. It's actually been very entertaining, seeing as how we have our own budding rivalry with you and should've tied the series if not for our coaching staff doing everything they could to lose the game last year (and got Pelini's staff fired via your own A.D.).

That's like a backdoor b-slap. You won the game and you still got punked.

Lol, poor Nebraska fans. It's been a rough first 4 years for you guys hasn't it.

Nebraska fans are obsessed with Wisconsin and many of them refuse to acknowledge what everyone else recognizes. Cornhuskers would like to think that there are only two teams in the Big10 West that are worth talking about. But this isn't the old Big-8 they are playing in now.

Many Husker fans still fancy themselves as a national power. But the reality is that they can not even dominate their current conference division yet. Nebraska brings a long and storied football history and tradition with them...but so far that isn't enough to turn many heads.

I love how Nebraska fans crave a rivalry with Wisconsin because of the Barry Alvarez factor. Alvarez is a blowhard with an ego the size of Milwaukee.

Would you really say there are "big dogs" in the West Division?

We have ISU, Minn and Wisc as rivals.
We have owned Penn St and Michigan, which makes these match-ups meaningful for both sides. They want payback, Iowa wants to continue to ruin their lives.
Michigan St and Iowa have had some great games on the football field, win or lose the respect is there.
NW vs Iowa has some hate going on from both sides.
We have ILL and it seems maybe Purdue in basketball as well as our three main rivals.

We can't be everyone's rival, so no hard feelings if you all want Wisconsin as your only Big10 rival.

Wisconsin though really only has Minn and Iowa as rivals, so I'm sure they have room for the Huskers on their hate list. No big deal.

That's one thing I HATE about the B1G. When Nebraska joined, they tried to 'assign' rivals to us. Like the buddy system in grade school.

Rivalries are built over decades and years, games decided by a couple points that determine championships, tough losses and gritty wins in bad weather and against villainous competition.

Rivalries cannot be sold to the highest bidder and created out of thin air.

An oft used sker expression regarding Iowa/Nebbie as rivals. "you have to beat us a few times to be our rival"

I believe Wisky could say the same to the skers "you have to beat us a few times to be our rival". That has been a pretty lopsided series with lopsided scores since joining the B10.

So far, nebbie has not lived up to "rival" for the Badgers.

Hope springs eternal in Lincoln, Ray. I thought I was going to have purchase a ticket for Bucky's match up with Nebbie, but a disillusioned blackshirt fan said they were free for the asking.

Wisconsin is the only program in the entire B1G who owns a winning record vs Nebraska since Nebraska joined.

Iowa? Yeah right.
Penn St? No.
Michigan St? No.
Michigan? No.
Etc.

Wisconsin has earned respect. They aren't some forced "rivalry" assigned by the B1G.

Turning into a fun series and will be again this year when Neb hangs another W on them in Lincoln.

You're 2-2 against Minnesota and 1-1 against Ohio State, although that's because you luckily skipped them the past 2 years.

Guess that means you're those teams biggest rivals as well because......Nebraska.

The reality is that Nebraska hasn't earned the right to be anyone's rival and most likely never will.

Huskers are the new team who limped into the conference with delusions of grandeur and after having done nothing in the big12 for how ever many years that existed you have been nothing but a forgettable disappointment in the big 10.

I think most big ten fans would gladly return you to where you came from.

Nebraska is simply not relevant to anyone right now but their own fans.

Sadly, the entire west is a joke compared to the east. Its the big 12 north all over again.

Ray, by coming over here and seeking validation with this sort of nonsense you're embarrassing your self, not us.

I think most big ten fans would gladly return you to where you came from.

Just another fat L on the schedule. I hear ya, brother. Sympathy sent.

Agree on the B1G West being the new B12 North. Iowa would struggle to win the B12 North maybe 1-2 times per decade. Not even better than Iowa State. Just like the B1G West, it would be tough for the Hawks to finish in a Top 3.

You speak a lot of truth.

We both know that Nebraska had no earthly business winning that game last year. Try to spin it all you want but no one is worried about a potential loss because youre not that good and Iowa, even in its pitiful Kirk Frenetz induced state, can and will still beat you easily.

Talk all the nonsense you wan't, but Huskers aren't any better than the rest of the west right now, just another mediocre opponent.

Nobody is trying to spin a win; you're trying to spin a loss.

Pro tip: If you're gonna talk trash, just make sure it's not about a moral victory. It's really pathetic.

By the way, what's your pre-season prediction for where your Hawks end up in this new B12 North?

Anywere from 6 to 11 wins. We certainly don't play anybody that we should be worried about but we have a coach that can turn any game into a loss.

Realistically, even with the easiest schedule in the country, Ferentz will probably only get 7, we'll lose at least two games on special teams and one or two others that will be completely ridiculous and totally avoidable.

If we get a real coach in here, which is not a given, the division is completely up for grabs. (Hell its up for grabs anyway,) And luckily for Iowa, the Huskers already struck out on there coaching search.

And Pro tip? The last thing I ever want to be is a pro message board poster, that would be pathetic.

You accent the word "HATE". Good God,
the BIG must be painful to you, what with all that pent-up emotion. With all that passion, surely you must have the energy to convince U-Nebraska authorities to go on back home, to Ames, Stillwater, Lawrence, etc ...as well as Austin (Oops!). Be careful though as you trudge away from the BIG: Don't let the doorknob hit ya.

Regardless of the ridiculous OP, most fans of most teams, even those heated rivalries, are quite nice to each other. It's just a game, only ignorant fools make it more than that.

True, only a fool bases their relativity on the accomplishments of 18-21 year old men playing a game. I am a fan but I don't feel the need to yell obscenities at people or douse them in beer because of actions on the field. I will be happy but respectful of opposing fans after a win because my actions define me not the players success or failures.

LOL. I don't even understand what you're getting at. LOL. No idea why I should care what Wisconsin players say about NU. LOL.

I have and always will consider Wisconsin our big rivalry. All-time series Wisconsin leads, 44–43–2 (.506). The record speaks for itself. Similar play styles. An old Iowa coach was the AD (Alvarez) and and old IA player their coach (Bielema). Until Minnesota and ISU become more competitive, I don't really consider them at the same level as Wisconsin. However, still have a lot of respect for the Floyd of Rosedall trophy.

Honestly didn't even hear who Nebraska was playing until now. It's telling that the ONLY ones talking about Nebraska are their die-hard fans.

I have always at least respected Wisconsin, hate to lose to them but I would not say I hate them. Teams I hate in order:
1) Nebby: Fans are most out of touch and just annoying
2) ISU: Lil brother being lil brother
3) Michigan: The most pretentious fanbase in the USA now multiplied by 4 with a pretentious asshole for head coach
