Los Angeles/Seattle or Iowa? Need your advice.

Both places have their pros and cons. Lately it's been raining a lot in the PNW. Just rememember, even though you may have some input, it's her career and basically her choice.

I agree and I definitely will be supportive if she chooses differently than I'd like. From my research, Seattle seems like a nicer mix of size, types of people, economy and really everything but weather. I'll probably know by tonight and I've been looking at places in both locations for my job. I think she would start shortly after the first of the year so it will be a CRAZY holiday season for us!

Not at all. I don't assume everybody is making six figures or look down on those that are working hard for minimum wage. If you feel that is an insult you want to hurl around I think it says more about you than me.

I'm confident that it's not Thomas. In fact, since I've seen the comparison to other 'handles' recently, I did a quick TB search. It appears every likely troll or real new person that says something dumb or doesn't speak 100% partisan politics has been labeled Thomas Barnes.


Often imitated, never duplicated? I'm guessing that a truly reincarnated Thomas would be markedly different than the man/myth/sales legend we all knew.

Seattle is slightly less expensive than LA. For that you get much nicer surroundings but you have to deal with real weather. Personally I hated LA's "perfect" weather. It gets really boring when the weather is the nearly the same every day. Especially if you can't afford to live down near the beach where the temps are nice and instead are living further out where it's just freaking hot. Traffic in LA is terrible, always. 2am and the 405 will be at a standstill in whichever direction it is you need to be going. Seattle might have bad rush-hour traffic but it's not 24/7 like LA can be.
I'd take Seattle 9 out of 10 times.

She won't dump me. We've been together for a long time and haven't had major issues. I'm close with her parents and we really never fight. She does make more, but i actually "wear the pants" like you said.

As an Iowa transplant, PNW weather isn't that bad. It does rain a lot in the winter, but it's on and off, so you can still get out to go for a run or whatever between showers. And there isn't ice everywhere, so that's a bonus. And there's still a lot of green in winter, with spring starting in early to mid-March. Summers are magnificent. Mostly clear, upper 70s to low 80s. I understand the seasonal disorder thing. Basically, you just have to get outside and do stuff even when it's gray.

The thing I would worry about is the real estate market. It blew up again the last 2-3 years like it did prior to the 2008 crash, but has cooled off a bit the past few months.

Thanks for all the advice. I said I think Seattle would be great and she followed up and said "I'm taking the job in Los Angeles". Ok...fun in the sun it is, i guess. She has a relative that has a house open in a really nice area so i definitely WON'T complain about no rent for 6-12 months!

I get what you're saying, but there's no doubt she's the girl I want to marry. When she suggested that, I mainly think she was testing me to make sure I'd support her career and her .

I definitely agree about not getting married yet. She's had a lot of stress and I'll probably wait until we get settled in before I ask.

Sounds like you better have a backup plan for when she dumps you after getting out there.
