Losing to a team

NW is legit. They can flat-out shoot the ball too. Vs Neb they couldn't miss.

Cedric Neloms is not walking through that door!

they are good...said that over a month ago. With many of the same players from last & the return of Law they should end the NCAA streak.

we sucked tonite....no doubt but sometimes you have to hand to the other team and it seemed we did that quite regularly. :(

Next.

Past performance does not predict future outcomes.

Who cares if NW hasnt made an NCAA tournament?

They have some talent and I hope they make it this year.

We've certainly lost to these guys plenty of times. This is definitely one of the few times we really looked out classed in doing it. I guess if there's any positives it counts the same as all those times we seem to have lost to them by a basket and that this won't be a 100+ loss. And 3-3 is pretty much where we expected to be at this point.

I was 27 years old before NW beat Iowa at football in my lifetime. Nothing lasts forever and surely the Wildcats will Dance one of these days.

Collins appears to be a decent recruiter but it has always amazed me that a B10 program located in the middle of a hotbed of basketball talent - metro Chicago - has not attracted more local players over the years.

Not that amazing. You have to be a good student to get into Northwestern.

I agree but admissions has some to do with that

Move on hawkeyebbnfbfan. The Warriors lost to the Lakers by 20 this year. Not every match up goes down on the court like you think it I'll on paper.

We actually were awarded a Helms Foundation National Basketball Championship in 1931. It's about time we make it to the NCAA Tourney.

It's been a slow recovery from the NU administration pulling the plug on NU athletics in the 1970's, funding athletic programs at 40% of the level of the next lowest Big Ten school. We had an administration that literally thought that poor athletic teams actually enhanced their academic image! The administration got smart and funding was restored in 1992. It's nice to be competitive again.

Please ignore the OP. His mom spread lead paint on his toast as a young child.

Most Chicago metro or inner-city basketball players don't qualify for admission to Northwestern, or even Illinois for that matter, which has a couple points higher ACT-entrance requirement than Iowa does. Although- almost all our (Iowa) players would qualify for (sports) admission at either school.

I believe academic standards eliminates many.

It did not take Chris Collins 7 years to get an "elite" back court duo. I watched the 2008 Davidson run on Youtube and I was able to watch B1G 6th man of the year Jason Bohannon play and what I have seen from Jordan leads me to believe he is going to be a solid guy who will knock down some big buckets, but do not expect him to be a big time elite PG.

Frans system doesnt seem to fit the "elite" PG. Fran seems comfortable with running his offense through whoever. I mean MG was his recruit at PG (but he wasn't a pure PG). If anything he was a 2 guard, playing the PG position.

I mean this year you have seen several different players bring the ball up the floor. When the clock gets down under 10 on the shot clock, any player can have the ball in their hand. It seems Fran is more concerned about the post/wing position than he is about guard. Most teams you see when the shot clock gets under 10 they get the ball to their PG and they dribble drive.

But watching macintosh last night, showed a PG like that takes a couple of years in to become good (similar to MG). Bohannon will improve and I agree he will never be an Elite PG, but he will be serviceable and if you put decent shooters and big men around him, could be quite successful.

Teams typically do not make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament with serviceable PGs. Of course, as you say, Coach Fran's system does not rely on elite PGs- maybe that is one reason he has never made it out of the 1st weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

Very true. I think he needs to search the "transfer" market and see if there are any graduate transfers out there for the PG position. I would like to think Wiliams/Bohannon combo is the answer, but I just don't think it is. They can't defend good enough to be successful in the Big 10. Their offensive games are good, but they both struggle on the defensive end (but this whole team struggles).

I would like the see a PG that can attack the paint and dish it off or kick it out. It seems like all our motion is side to side and nothing towards the basket. Our guards only way of getting past their defender is if they get a screen.

I think you hit on a solid analysis.

Great year for Chicago area teams. Cubs finally won a series and I would be surprised if the Cats don't end up in the NCAAs. That's a really good team they have and should be even better next year. Chris Collins is the real deal, folks.

it appears Chris Collins can recruit.
No Doubt, these are not your daddys mildcats. Unlike the Daddys boy in minny, Collins can coach, and he's raised the level of athlete in his tenure there.
Unfortunately we had about 7 or 8 guys have their worst game of the year on Sunday. I think that meat grinder game agaisnt Purdue took a lot out of the young hawks. Hope they bounce back next game.

I do not believe for a second that NW is 35 points better than Iowa. I would bet that the Purdue game took its toll. In addition, playing on the road in the B1G is a learning process. I figure home court advantage in the college game is worth about 10-12 points per game, with all other things being somewhat equal. One of the best thing about this young team is they have been able to hold home court in the conference.

I think I had Northwestern somewhere between 3-5 in the conference standings at the beginning of the year. Like Nebraska football, what they did in the past is irrelevant now. Northwestern is good... now.
