I’ve never been admitted to a hospital but I’ve visited family/friends there many times. Their nutrition programs are all garbage.
Fortunately, I’ve had/chosen doctors who are also health conscious so they have given me eating and exercise tips. However, you have to take ownership of your health and ask your doctor appropriate questions. It also helps me that my daughter is a registered dietitian. 😉

Ensure is for consuming calories when you are on a dietary restriction because of a health condition or if you lack an appetite due to illness or treatment. I drank a version of them for a few days each time I had GI surgery because I was on a clear food diet and it was that or jello for meals. They sell it at Walmart without prescription because it's not any kind of addictive drug and its purpose is well understood. Doctors are not telling healthy people who are eating enough to supplement with producta like Ensure. If you have research beyond "presumably" showing that Ensure is hurting people, by all means share.
