Luther Open Preview (Which TFR will be in the Open Division?)

Well, since you asked...... :)

It obviously captures the moment right after Lee “lost” to DeSanto when going for his 4X state title and an undefeated HS career. Fighting on one leg, mono wore him out, he still wanted to go for it and push himself to a new height of achievement. You could even argue that the 2 was after the whistle, and I wouldn’t look at you sideways.

To me, this photo captures an inflection point for our program—the precise moment in time that our current lull of misfortune turns around. This is Lee’s Larry Owings moment—the burning seed of resentment that grew in Gable’s heart until it burst out in full bloom as he blew through the ‘72 Olympics and no one scored even a point on him. You don’t have the greatest tournament run in wrestling history without the sting of that final NCAA loss.

So Lee has a stinger in his soul now, too. That final last loss that he couldn’t quite (and no one could or should, let’s be clear) pull off. But he is savvy enough and driven enough to use it to fuel an incredible run through his NCAA career, and we’re all along for the ride. He doesn’t ever want to feel that way again.

So as terrible a moment and as bitter a defeat as it was for Spencer, and we mourn it right along with him, I think it was quite possibly the greatest thing that could have happened to the Hawks in a long while. So I celebrate it as the catalyst for our next title.

Go Hawks. FREE THE LEE.
I believe that answer will suffice. Thanks!

I could swear someone posted a video link for Luther but somehow I’m too dumb to find it. Can anyone help?

Downey is supposed to be at GV but he has a way of not showing up or only wrestling a match or two before “injury defaulting” at these things.
"Supposed to be"...really? Says whom, Mr. Know-It-All?

And winning Sr Nationals with a torn meniscus, placing 5th at the NCAAs with a broken rib, up a weight a class and maybe a dozen matches under his belt. Oh, and lets not forget beating 5 All Americans, including Dean, thereby placing 5th at the Open and qualifying for the WTT, when he wasn't even in a room, but merely chasing chickens on a farm with Ben Provisor. You've got to be the biggest tool on this forum.

20+ credits in a semester is no small feet even if you are doing them through the Web.

Just the time alone has to be daunting. I did 18 credits twice and was miserable from the amount work.

He wrestled last week and looked decent.

Priorities are straight on this one. Good on him.
Exactly, anyone who thinks the coursework is easier just because its online is an idiot.

Agree! That was one of the most eloquent posts I’ve ever read on this board. I think Dagboi must be either Andy Hamilton or John Irving.

I wish! Owen Meany is a helluva book. Thanks, fellas. :) Just another die-hard Hawks wrestling fan who appreciates greatness when he sees it. You know how Iowa City is.....you can’t throw a rock in this town without knocking some frustrated writer’s glasses off.

I took three 8 week classes online to include stats. Big mistake. I had a paper a week, plus trying to learn statistics on my own. It's hit and miss with instructors...some can be hard asses with the grading and others, you're not sure they even look at it. I happened to get two hardasses for the in depth writing courses. Probably the worst though is group projects online. I learned just to do it all in case somebody was late or just didn't do it.

Much harder than some tools think. There's no hand holding and it requires a lot of self discipline and time management.

Best of luck to your son on finishing his studies. I for one, am very glad he is on the team. I got to witness a 5 minutes discussion between Pat and Tom a month or so ago. Very enlightening on his attitude and work ethic.

I look forward to Pat wrestling for Iowa

Thanks...that makes at least two of us. Its utterly mind numbing how some people think they know so much about someone or situations, when if fact they don't know their ***** from a hole in the ground. SMH

Please don't let a message board skew your perception of Iowa fans' support. There are a whole lot of Iowa fans pulling for Pat to have a tremendous experience at Iowa and great success on and off the mat. Add me to the list. I'm sure it's a long one, and I have no doubt that the supporters far outnumber any detractors.

As funny as you are, I thought you were more than deserving of it.
All kidding aside you seem like a good guy. At the very least you can give as well as take. I also think you are the only one left that doesn't have me on ignore. Some people can't take a little ribbing. Wonder who coined that phrase? It's hell getting old

Talked to Pat for a while the night of the NOC and a cpl times before a workout. Very well spoken and funny. Enjoyed visiting and think he is going to get everything accomplished to enable him to have a great final year. Hoping things go well with his classes and he finishes as a Hawk.
