Next weekend's Luther Open will be the Hawk's first varsity gig of the year. Will there be any good match ups based on the teams that are scheduled to attend?

Also, I assume the freshmen will compete unattached. Any predictions on potential surprises? I wouldn't call Marinelli a surprise were he to beat a potential Hawkeyes starter, but what about Happel or another freshman?

Four Gophers wrestlers have been suspended from competing with the team until January, a University of Minnesota spokesman said Wednesday evening.

Tommy Thorn, Larry Early, Brandon Krone and Ethan Lizak were suspended for violating team rules, the spokesman said. He declined to specify the reason for their suspensions; it’s unclear if they are related to a drug scandal that enveloped the program last spring.

The four wrestlers are suspended from meets but can practice and work out with the team, the spokesman said.

Track shows 23 teams with the Hawks bringing 31 wrestlers (36 on the roster). No other D1 schools signed up so the only competition will be Hawk vs Hawk.
