Mabin is having a busy day...

KF and company are going to have to make some cornerback decisions pretty quickly.......With no dominant pass rusher to speak of, teams are going to throw the ball at will against us........

HA HA at the previous few posts. Mabin is a good corner, he is just not having a good game. That Wr is also a decent wideout and he's like 6'4" with decent speed. This is going to happen all year long, with no one wanting to throw King's way, I think Mabin will play better as the year goes on. The other reason for today is we haven't brought pressure at all, with any sort of blitz on passing downs or even the raider package. We have played a vanilla bend but don't break defense all day long. This is why I hate these games when we get up big early against these lesser teams Ferentz and the coordinators then go into shell mode and we sort of just play to keep the score where it's at.

Exactly backinblack, So frustrating. It seems that we just have to push the brakes instead of burying teams. Why don't we blitz????!!!! If our line can't get the rush, then generate something. A lot of things to work on, and having Hesse and Jewel back won't hurt.

I guess I just watch a lot of Iowa football. At the end of the year especially Purdue and Nebraska games Mabin was excellent.

Yeah it's tough to look good against Purdue who hasn't won anything since Bush 1 and Limp-wristed tommy armstrong.

Settle down. He is good. Just not great like the guy across from him. Iowa was playing a base D without their 2nd best defensive player.
I agree with this. Phil Parker just needs to figure out a way to get him some help when he needs it. Mabin was mismatched all day today and there were no adjustments made. I thought after the first TD he got burned, that someone would help him over top, but no, no adjustments for it.

Isn't Lazard 6'4 or 6'5? ISU is going to run him against Mabin all day. If Greg plays like he did today next week, Lazard is going to have 200+ receiving yards. Hawks are going to need to pressure the QB. I am also concerned that Miami was able to run so easily, but I chalk much of that up to Jewell not being in there.

question......does one learn and/or improve when practicing against live fire? my presumption is YES.

Mabin had his lunch eaten. All Day Long.
Lack of pass rush certainly contributed.

I like Mabin as much as the next guy, but let's be honest here. Mabin looked like a freshman playing in his first game today. This should not be for a Senior going in his third year as a starter.

He needs to get his head around. He had no idea the ball was coming a lot of times. He got worked pretty bad today.

That WR was big and fast, he even beat King a couple of times . Mabin will get better.

If we don't have a corner better than Mabin (other than King), next year is going to be interesting.

Lack of safety help was the bigger issue. More than one play the receiver should have been bracketed and either picked or broken up.

Most concerning part of the day for me.

he also didnt get alot of help over the top - its easy to pick on Mabin but with the defensive schemes Iowa plays (soft coverage / keep everything in front of you) we are going to give alot of 6 - 8 yard passes..and yeah who wants to play the corner opposite of King..

I think the safety blew a couple of those plays, but he's starting for the first time, so that's to be expected. I think we'll see improvement.

Let's remember too that #13 hadn't seen a live snap since the Rose Bowl. He'll be fine.

That is the worst excuse yet.

Neither had Vandenberg and he seemed fine, same with Daniels, same with the Miami QB and WR, they all seemed fine.

Not an excuse. Reality. And if you can't see the difference between a CB missing spring ball and those you cited, sorry for you.
