I like this guy's game. He seems to have a little of everything to his game. I wouldn't say he excels at any one thing. But he can handle the ball, has a decent shot, can drive & dish, plays good defense and seems to have a good basketball IQ.

He is a guard so he doesn't necessarily need the bulk, many his isn't banging down low. But you don't need to be huge to be successful. Ask Baer.

Anyone else seeing a player in Maishe? I would like to see more of Dailey. And if CW can't put things together, then take his minutes. I can see Maishe running the point for sure. He just needs some more PT.

I'm a Maishe fan. I thought he presented well last night.

There were some typical mistakes and miscommunication, but I thought he looked like he knew what he was doing. It was like he'd been impressing in practice and was getting rewarded for his efforts. I'd like to see more.

Good potential since he's quite athletic and smooth. I just hope he sticks it out if he doesn't see many minutes in B1G play.

Athletic and smooth. I meant to add those two qualities. He always seems in control, especially for a freshman.

Glad he got some minutes last night. I hope he gets minutes at the end of those B1G blowouts. And we will get blown out a time or 3. And games that we win big... Kind of like the last half of the 2nd period against UNI, where none of the reserves played, but should have had significant playing time... Although I'd like for him to see some minutes against real good competition. If nothing else but to see how he performs.

I hope he sticks it out too. He could take some of Jok's minutes, as well as play some PG. He definitely has potential there.

I think when Jok leaves, Dailey could find himself with a lot of playing time. It'll be Moss, Dailey, and Williams at the 2/3 positions and it's not hard to see Dailey beating out CW for playing time or even a starting spot next year.

I like this kid. Maybe just the flavor of the month, but I think he has more potential than Williams. Particularly on offense. Is there a scenario this year where he's the backup PG?

Wish he had redshirted because the minutes just aren't there for him this year unless someone else gets injured. He reminds me of Moss earlier in the year when he was pressing too much, which is understandable. Lots of upside to his game. It amazes me how Fran has and eye for the unseen recruits.

I remember this summer Dailey said the coaches were having him do work at the 1, 2, and 3 positions

Agree, he needs some muscle on him. Im not sure why he didnt want to RS.

I like his potential, but barring injuries, his playing time will be minimal the rest of the year.

I hope he sticks it out and Fran really needs to consider making Williams the odd man out. Dailey offers a much better skill set and all-around game with great length. He could play the 1, 2 or 3 also.

He'd need to work on his handles a lot before becoming a legit go-to PG. Some of his ball handling was a tad sloppy and that won't fly in the B1G.

And some of his passes last night were rocket balls. Dang, take a lil' somthin' off those things, Mr. Dailey. Make 'em catchable.

But his quickness, energy and general court vision were fun to watch. He's playing with confidence. Now, whether he continuously improves or not, 'nuther story. Hope so!

Its not an easy sell to tell a player to sit out. Additionally, if a player isn't 100% sure this is a good long term fit, its not in the players best interest to redshirt at a school they will eventually leave, which would essentially waste two years. I'm not suggesting Dailey is thinking about leaving, but hypothetically speaking, if after this year he determines there aren't minutes available for him going forward, he can transfer and use his redshirt year and still have three to play. Last but not least, despite limited minutes, a players mentality in practice and games is much different if active compared to redshirt status.

I don't disagree that redshirting would have made a lot of sense in Dailey's case, not only for his future but for the team to balance out classes. But if a player doesn't want to redshirt, I don't see how a coach can force it upon them.

I see him as Jok's replacement next year. If you watched his game last night he is the perfect wing type player for this team. He can pass as a ball handler, can crash on the boards and can get the 3pt shot on the edges. Moss is almost the same player but is a better perimeter defender and better ball handler so I think Moss plays the 2. Moss can also take the ball from hoop to hoop and can run a fast break. JBo, Moss and Dailey could be a huge threat over the next 3 years.

Right now there is more upside to Dailey's game than there is to Williams game. With Connor coming in next year and able to play the 1-3 I wouldn't be surprised if Williams is the one that transfers if Dailey ends up passing him by.

I don't think anyone disagrees.

Dailey could be a really good player me thinks. I hope he get some time the rest of the way and doesn't get discouraged.

A little short on defense.

I think people are selling Williams a little short. I don't think he's a point at this level, but is playing out of necessity. Hopefully with the addition of Connor next year, Williams can move to the wing where he can drive and shoot.

I like Dailey's future and so does Fran.

“He's got a versatility about him that's impressive, because he can laterally get his feet apart and move his feet and contain a really smaller, quicker guy,” McCaffery said. “But then he's (6-foot-6) and long and so he can stick his nose in there on the glass and get rebounds with bigger guys and he can make 3s. Eventually, as he gets stronger, he's going to be even more explosive. What I want to see him do now is just kind of just take it and go off the dribble, trust his ability to do that.”

A little short on defense.

He actually played some decent D, for having virtually no playing time... I would say his defense is no worse than JBo's. He was staying in front of his man and not giving up the basket. He has the quickness and length. Give him tape to review (which he finally has some now), experience, some coaching, and I think he'll be a good defender. Even yet this year.

Again, everyone assumes these kids want to be in college for five years. I think many would choose to move on at some point. Even if a kid goes to the league, it only takes one good year for him to impress. The teams goal should be to continue to recruit better and better players, not keep the ones who are here longer. Save the redshirts for kids who are injured early in the year, and can't play.

Huh? Player retention and development is EVERYTHING for our program. We aren't and never will be Kentucky. Wisconsin has made gold out of redshirting underdeveloped players. We should do the same.

Its not everything. Theres pros and cons to both but its actually good to cycle out the bottom of the roster fairly consistently.

For instance Fleming and Hutton leaving allowed us to upgrade.

You don't want to tie up scholarships for extend time on lesser talent if you can bring in better talent. Most of our best players are freshman and sophs. If development was everything that wouldn't be the case.

Fran has upgraded the talent over what he had previously recruited, the idea is to continue to get better every year.

Sorry, I don't get the Huh? Its pretty simple. People sit on these boards and think they should decide if these kids should stay in college for FIVE years! Maybe they don't want to do that! Most of these kids aren't going to play pro ball, and just maybe they have other long range plans. Frans recruiting seems to be on an uptick. Recruit better, and better players, thats the goal! You don't need scollys tied up for five years.
Teams have injuries and other issues during the year. The long bench will come in handy at some point this year. People wanted to redshirt Pemsyl, yet look what happened when Cook went down. Now how do you not play Cordell? I wouldn't doubt we will see a role yet this year for Kreiner as well.
These kids come into college way more prepared to play as freshman now because of the explosion of AAU ball. They don't need to be weight lifters to play . Play them now, even if its in a limited role. They'll be more ready if called upon. Save the redshirts for injured players.

Sure, to state the obvious, you don't redshirt guys that can help. But you can't play 12 guys and Daily isn't going to get meaningful minutes this year. Moss was a great example of a smart redshirt. Olesani would have been another. The kid has to want to redshirt, of course.

...The kid has to want to redshirt, of course.
This is the crux of it. Hutton never wanted to red shirt. He left, potential unfulfilled.

If a player agrees to it and the coaching staff wants it, that's great. Moss appears to be a good example of that. But some kids are ready for college - academics, sports, socially, and living on their own for the first time in their lives. Better to let them come along with experience.

Dailey doesn't need to bulk up, but he could stand to add some strength.
Minutes are still in flux. I don't see him getting a lot, but who knows?

I can see potential for Dailey but he just isn't going to get the minutes. I think he gets it and he will transfer either at the end of this year or next. Look we are already 10 deep and he is like the 12th guy. Moss, Bohannon, Williams(like it or not he is our back up PG) and Ellingson(crap) are going to log the minutes next year at the guard positions. Bohannon is already logging 30 minutes a game and I could see Moss doing the same. That leaves 10 minutes for Williams and Ellingson. We have an abundance of long guys next year and I just see Fran trying to get as many minutes out of Wagner, Cook, Baer, Pemsl, Nunge, and Garza...even Jones if he comes back. I think Kreiner is the guy that could have really taken the red shirt this year and we could have used that extra year with him! Like I said...I like his potential but he isn't going to sit at the end of the bench long and realize he isn't going to play. Just my two cents.

I like Dailey, if he's better than the other guys he should play. If he's not he shouldn't. Guess we are gonna have to leave it in Frans hands. I'm glad I don't have to make them decisions. I do hope he sticks around.

Olaseni would've been a legit redshirt candidate as a freshman with how raw he was. I'm guessing he did relatively little to help the team his first year. Dailey is already skilled enough to contribute. Redshirting somebody just to bulk them up seems a bit dumb, as muscle weight can be gained during the season. If they aren't good enough to contribute otherwise then they need to recognize that the writing is on the wall (I don't believe this is the case with Dailey by the way). I believe he could help us still this year if an injury occurs, or if he continues to improve and steals minutes from other underperforming players. If not this year, he should definitely see a place on the team next year with Jok gone

Totally in the try Dailey as Bohannon's back up this year camp. MD was billed as a combo guard so he must have some point guard skills. The offense grinds to a halt when Williams is on the floor. Dailey looks quicker, more athletic and a superior ball handler and shooter. Williams remains a superior defensive player but that could change with game time. We don't see the boys practice but Dailey has looked pretty good when he's been on the floor.

Drink10- I just don't like the idea of a Kriener redshirt-- not with two pretty heralded big guys coming in next year. Ryan is already pretty strong and seems to be improving every time I see him on the court. Don't want to see it, but if one of our starting bigs goes down with a serious injury, Kriener will see his minute increase dramatically. He can't just wait and compete with two new guys next year, plus the returnees, all of whom have played against power programs. I think Ryan's best chance is to keep banging away and get better and see what the situation is after the 35 or so game season. It should be a lot more obvious in the spring.

Olesani absolutely. Thats the ideal readshirt candidate. A guy who can actually get exponentially better every season which is rare at that age. Still have no idea why he played his first year, he was worthless at that point.

Moss was only a smart redshirt because he showed up late and had academic issues.

Basketball wise Moss could have been a big help last year. He was a 4* guy with good offers, a scorer on a team that struggled to score would have made no sense to redshirt with out the academic issuse.

Daily could easily pass Williams and Ellingson by next year, possibly even this year. Ellingson is never going to be a big minutes guy anyway.

Also Bohanon cannot continue to play so many minutes. Hes not an ideal full time point and I have a feeling hes going to have a tough time as the primary ball handler this year in conference.
