These are programs that have had numerous final four appearances yet they didn't make the field this year. It is not easy so congrats for getting there hawks. Hope we can do something but not holding my breath.

This always leads to the question. Is it better to have consistent above average results but never get a championship or would you rather have a championship every decade or so, but some of the years you finish near the bottom?

It really is the question. We ousted Dr Tom because of the lack of variability. Many complain about Kirk because of the lack of variability.

When Fitz at NW went first-last-first-last, is that better than being above average all 4 years?

For me, in hoops, I would rather be 15-5 and 5-15, the 10-10 both years. We need to get a Sweet 16 once in a while and.500 conference teams don’t seem to get us that.

First last first last, no question

I would rather have those programs' histories and not make the tourney this year.

Even Nike U Oregon is unable to buy into the NCAA Tournament, and heading to the NIT. I think Oregon wins the NIT as Las Vegas is the city to have the NIT Final 4 teams.

Give me occasional sweet 16-to-even-deeper tourney runs with an every-once-in-a-while tourney miss 10 times out of 10

over…

What Iowa does.

Come on Gunner - those teams above have given their fans A LOT more excitement.

Unpopular opinion but give me consistent above average results. It's a long season to suffer through Lickliter levels of losing.
That was the most boring and deflating time in Iowa basketball. But that was lose, lose more, lose alot.

They said last night that North Carolina wouldn't accept an NIT birth. Missing out on giving younger players a chance to play. Leave the NIL spoiled players who obviously let last year's success go to their head stay home.

Just read that Iowa is one of only ten teams to make the dance four years in a row. An amazing Stat considering our recruiting rankings year-in and year-out.
Fran struck gold with Garza and the Murrays. Too bad that Big O and Mulvey didn't develop like we had hoped. They could have helped if they had. Saw that Michigan is declining to play in the NIT which is crazy. Why would you decline that extra practice and playing time?

Not surprised, arrogance at it's finest. Howard thinks he is better than anybody else, the players and fans do also. Too bad, too sad. Take your ball and go home.

As far as declining NIT invites, there isn't much to be gained from extra practice and playing time at this point in the season. Plus, we've seen major conference teams just not try in that tourney (Kentucky a few years ago as a prime example) so I bet the players aren't that interested either. I think it's more that this is when transfer season kicks off. UNC and Michigan have a lot of guys who probably won't be back, the coaching staffs will likely be recruiting like crazy over the next 2 weeks to secure their teams for next season.

Sounds like NCAA hoops' answer to players sitting out of bowl games to prepare for the draft.

I don't believe that anything Wisconsin does on the basketball court can ever be considered "exciting"

Those back to back Final Four appearances, including playing in the championship game once... Must have been real yawners for their fan base.
Thanks for the response to my obvious tongue-in-cheek comment.

For me, the whole point of supporting teams is to hope they win titles, trophies, success in NCAA tournament/bowl games/conference champioship games.

Remember losing to Oregon in the second round? They haven't been back to the tournament since. Frankly I'd take 3 appearances over one Sweet 16 followed by two misses.

I mean.... It's quite the accomplishment to take 4 and 5 star players at UNC and miss the tournament. Excellent coaching.
Just think NC led Kansas by 15 at the half of last year’s Championship Game, started the season ranked #1 and now doesn’t even make the tournament. I don’t remember that ever happening before.

Where did you see Michigan opted out of NIT. They are scheduled to play Toledo tomorow at 6
