Malice at the Palace

Saw it. Quite good at telling the complete story. Some of which is well known and some isn't. I'm a Pistons fan, and I always blamed the drunks at that game more than the players, and I'm glad they covered the low-key racist reaction of the news media towards the players.

I just finished it. It is good. Of course, Jamaal Tinsley instigated it by goading Ron Artest into fouling Ben Wallace for no real reason.

I think the guy who threw the beer on Artest comes off as a DB. Doing some reading now that Ron found him on Twitter and the 2 are on good terms now.

Thanks for sharing, will watch that tonight.

The punk who threw the beer got off way to easy ( and I really don't know what happened to him) , but as mentioned in the article, it was his action that caused players to go in the stands

Maybe it's in the doc but I saw an interview with Stephen Jackson from a few years ago and he tells a story of how they got into the locker room and Ron looks over at him and says, "do you think we're going to get into any trouble" and was dead serious. That's just hilarious.

Thank you but, that reply does not answer my question concerning what happened to the guy in terms of punishment for his role. That being said, I appreciate you trying to be helpful, even though you were not helpful in any way.

Per Wikipedia

"On March 27, 2006, a jury found Green guilty on one count of assault and battery for punching Artest in the stands, but acquitted him of an assault charge for throwing the cup. On May 1, 2006, Green was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years' probation.[36] On November 7, 2006, the Pistons issued a letter to Green informing him that he was banned for life from attending any Pistons home games under orders from the NBA, although, in a revision from his initial punishment two years prior, the ban no longer extended to other events at the Palace of Auburn Hills."

The wikipedia article on this is interesting. Apparently Green was easily identified because he was the prosecutor's neighbor. Also Green had a rap sheet including counterfeiting, assault, carrying a concealed weapon and 3 DUI's.

Good thing he only threw a cup and not ice. That will surely get you charged with assault.

Minimal punishment. 30 days in jail and 2 years probation.

You have to admit, that was a pretty amazing toss. Guy was 10 rows up and 15 feet to the right. I bet he's a solid partner in bags.

Always thought the players took too much heat for the incident. I recall watching ESPN as it happened and the announcers and studio team immediately took the side of the players only to change their tune after a few commercials and producers in their ear.

You wouldn’t get that much for throwing a beer in a bar.

you want to give the guy the electric chair because it was on TV?

the criminal act is what the punishment should be based on not how high profile it was.

You should get the chair for saying Giannis is terrible.

THE PACERS ARE THUGS. THEY DESERVED EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED. SCUM. SCUM. SCUM

I said he was overrated. If you think he gets out of the second round if the Nets are full strength we can agree to disagree.

not to mention 5 of the top 6 players in the NBA being out with injury or severely limited to open the gates for his playoff run.

If Ron arrest doesn't go into the stands, nothing happens. They escalated it.

Yes, we all know this. You aren't saying anything enlightening, RunLBlade.

You had many stupid comments about Giannis during the playoffs & you deserve to be mocked. The more you dug your high heels in saying he sucks, the better he played. 2x MVP. DPOY. And now Finals MVP. Change your tune.

I gave you facts and opinion. You call people names.

maybe next year everybody will be healthy and we will see what happens. Certainly Giannis with all his accolades can get back to the Finals regardless of other teams health.

Absolutely, but people were coming on the court trying to fight, throwing chairs and every drink in arms reach. I'm not saying Artest didn't deserve a huge punishment, but the whole season seemed a bit steep to me. Not sure why O'Neal got 25 games, he was under attack

I believe there was more fault than just the players. They took all the heat and the actions of the fans seemed to get glossed over when they played a major part in the situation and that comes from a true hater of the Pacers of that era.

I think 30 days in jail would be worse than being suspended from work.

When this happened I thought the players were complete thugs, and I was wrong. They’re subject to abuse from vile people night in and night out, and this isn’t the last time some idiot will throw something onto the court.

NBA players make ridiculous money and should show more restraint; how the Pacers reacted was over the top. In my opinion the fault lies with the NBA and the Pistons organization for failing to provide better security. Oh, and sports fans in general. Many of are obnoxious jerks who lack common decency and respect for others.

Nothing was thrown until one cup hit captain table layer. If he just goes to bench nothing happens

Thats the kind of thing that keeps him in the WPOTY race

This Netflix documentary looks like it might be pretty good. It comes/came out today.

I always enjoyed this Malice at the Palace. One of the funniest episodes of all time.

The scene with Larry in the kitchen preparing lunch is hilarious.

I know how some of you feel about Bomani Jones, but he has a great talk with Jermaine O'neal about this too.

Here's the Spotify link, it's worth a listen
