Man to spend years in jail after faking own death to avoid paying child support

His plea document said he did this to avoid paying child support fees of more than $100,000.

The damage to governmental corporate computer systems and his failure to pay his child support obligations totaled around $200,000.

How did he do nearly $100,000 worth of damage to government computer systems?

By hacking into them as part of his stooopid scheme to fake his own death and avoid paying child support. He's dumb, but not dumb since he accessed Hawaii’s death registry system and created a fraudulent death certificate for himself. He also hacked other government and business networks to steal credentials. I guess the damage likely resulted from unauthorized access, manipulation of sensitive data, and the security breaches he caused while hacking into these systems. This would have required substantial resources to detect, investigate, and repair, thus contributing to the high cost of the damage--100k.

I think the government considers any equipment compromised by hackers as "damaged," even if it is technically still functional.

what is his political affiliation? depending on the answer it may become relevant

If you have the skills to hack into government computers and create fake documents, why not just use those same skills to send your kid some money?

Many times, the fathers have no issue with giving money to the kids. The problem is they have to give the money to the mother with no accountability to prove she spent the money on the kids.

Sure. Look, it’s easy. If you put it in and make a baby you are responsible for it. If the mom is that bad and the dad can’t get custody then your argument has a few holes in it.
