Sixteen years ago today, my dad and I watched the Hawks’ first round game at my house. They built such a lead in the second half that CBS switched over to a different game, so we decided to drive to Czech Village in Cedar Rapids to start our St Patrick’s Day boozing.
We listened to the end of the game on WMT and just as we pulled into the parking lot and turned off the car, a dejected Gary Dolphin called Northwestern State’s game-winning shot. We both swore and started walking towards the bar. Due to the broadcast delay the televisions in the bar were about 7 seconds behind the radio and we heard the collective groan just as we approached the door.
