He's got to be done for the rest of the year, right? Why continue to play a guy that fails to execute as frequently as he has? I thought facemask INT vs MN might have been a fluke, but he has a diagnosed case of the drops. If a failure to execute is the reason Iowa is losing games, the coaches should remove guys that aren't executing - He's exhibit-A.

Over the years I could name several young men that have fumble or drop passes and were pulled out and sat down for several games but for some reason this kid keeps getting chances not saying it's right or wrong just different

Speculation only but our receiver recruiting has been so horrific that the staff probably feels they need to give him ample opportunities before pulling the plug or it's back to playing a jimmy lipper that can't even get open for a pass. At one time Akrum was dead man walking in the program and that turned out better than most expected.

Well he is our best option right now. We literally have the WORST WR core in the Big Ten and I could even argue the Nation. We have zero athletes on the outside. ITs pretty sad when our two best options MVB & Easley wouldn't even start for UNI or FCS program.

I like the coaches keep putting him out there. He will come around, he is a true freshman who is making mistakes. It happens, but we have no other options. This is the area that KF and company have to improve if we want Iowa to get back to 12-0. If we do not get better WR, we are screwed in running the ball.

We actually get a receiver that can get vertical that's playing right out of high school but then we want to bench him because he's making mistakes in hopes that we will be able to recruit other good receivers?

If we had quality WR depth then yes I would get benching him because he's costing us lately. We forget though that he made a game winning TD catch earlier this year or we would likely be 5-6 right now so there has been some moments the other way.

IS-M is the only Iowa receiver I've seen in several years to consistently be able to get open deep. Does he catch the ball? No, but neither does Fant or Easley. All three are young guys who have time to improve along with Stanley. We knew this would be an up and down year for the offense and it has. The coaches need to stick with the young guys unless they get passed up and it will pay at dividends down the road

Fant isn't as bad as ism

How many times have we had posters complaining because the coaches don’t let talented young players see the field? They are going to have growing pains, hopefully it pays major dividends on down the road.

Hopefully he uses the drops as fuel all off season to get better. It's about the best thing you can say. All the receivers need to sit in front of the throwing machine at 11.

I grant you it hasn't gone like I expected this year, but I still think that Brandon Smith is going to emerge and be amazing. Having two guys who can high jump 6'11" (7' in practice) has to eventually redound to our exciting benefit.

We need someone that can stretch the filed. Vandenberg/Easley are not those guys. Marsette playing is the same reason we start two rookie OT's---we got nobody else.

I wouldn't write Marsette off and he did help win the ISU game for us...but he has had a rough few games.

ISM should not have had to be used before his time was right as he needs to adjust to the speed of the college game, the passing strength of a college QB arm and ISM needs more body and hand strength. ISM's drops seem to be from lack of focus and hand strength.

Iowa's receiving corp is crap outside of Cooper ( needed strength, future Vandenberg clone), Smith (not a burner but possession type) and ISM. Quarells got a late camp start and I've heard a injury set him back. Recruit Tyrone Tracy will see early reps as Iowa just has a small unit of quality receivers. Timing to clean out dead weight in corp. Needs some impact WRs brought in soon.

We don't have a single wr that would start for any other B1G team. That is recruiting ineptitude.

Look at the offense. There's a reason we couldn't get the best receivers from the state to play for the Hawks, and as much as it pissed me off that they went elsewhere (especially Michigan), I completely understood. Why play for a team that will run into 8/9 man fronts instead of throwing the ball? Granted, our WR haven't been able to get open much the past few years, but you aren't going to get kids to come and play if you don't show you're willing to drop back and let it fly. Inexplicably, the team abandoned the offense that torched Ohio State, which was pass to set up the run. That type of offense would open more doors to kids who can play WR at the B1G level.

I have not seen an Iowa wide receiver make a 50/50 play for a long time. You watch other teams play and receivers are making plays all over the place. This is what is killing the offense. And then when the QB lays it in their perfectly it is dropped. I am tired of the excuse of he is young. High school players can make those catches. I feel sorry for Iowa QB's.

Always with the hyperbole. Really? We don't have one that would start for ANY other team? First off, there is NO way to substantiate that statement and secondly why do you always have to go to such extremes? It's insultive to the kids and their families (and some of this stuff gets around to the families) and is not constructive in any way. Seriously, what is the point of these types of posts that a bunch of you heroes are so fond of?

I don't think they have had many opportunities for 50/50 plays, have they? Stanley rifles the ball around, so they either catch or not. Who cares what YOU are tired of? lol. It's amazing how many self absorbed losers there are on here that makes a football game that they have NOTHING to do with, nothing invested in, all about THEM and their little feelers. You were actually making a decent point until you made it about you and resorted to hyperbole. I wish I could meet all you heroes in person. That's not a threat, I would just like to talk to a bunch of you face to face.

The point is it is true and it's not the kids fault. It is the fault of the lousy recruiting by these coaches. Kirk is not a good recruiter and never has been but is definitely getting worse. This team is devoid of playmakers other than Jewel, Wadley and Jackson. That is not nearly enough. This is a big boy game so grow up.

Grown men that sit around on an anonymous chatrooms and piss and moan and carry on over a football game and things they know almost nothing about are 'big boys'? LMAO.
I have to get all this straight. It's hard to keep up with all you heroes. Just to summarize from the last couple days;
KF has the worst and most predictable offense in college football
KF doesn't even care about anything but his contract and paycheck
KF is a horrible game coach
KF doesn't game plan
KF is a horrible recruiter
Ok, I'm going to pretend I don't know who KF is. From you and your whiny friends descriptions, I would guess this coach is about to be fired because his program is a mess, the players are defecting, and his record must me something like 6-30 over the last 3 yrs. Am I close? Oops, I was WAY off;
1. His record is 26-9 regular season over those 3 years.
2. Attrition is way down within the program, leading to better depth.
3. Recruiting has been has been trending upwards.
4. Off field incidents have been trending down.
5. Grad rates are up.
6. I can go on and on about the positives of this program and how proud the vast majority of fans and alumni are of this program, this coach, and this institution, but those of you that life revolves around your little feelings and how people are 'disappointing you' probably won't ever understand.

What is it going to take for some of you to understand how ridiculous and self absorbed you sound.
God bless the U.S. of a'ME'rica.

Stanley does rifle the ball a lot but a lot of drops like the one on Saturday have been right in their hands and dropped. Who said anything about it being about me. I think there a lot of people who are tired of excuses. I am just simply saying those balls need to be caught on a more consistent basis.

I'll sound like the tool here, but what does being a freshman versus a senior have to do with catching a football? While Nate can overthrow any receiver with the best of 'em, and fire bullets 10 yards away when a touch pass is called for, he's dropped some beautiful passes in for ISM only to have them bounce off shoulder pads, or through hands. Getting separation does no good when you have Crisco on your hands.

If he keeps running those sweeps the way he does, getting close to contact and then kind of half jumping/half turning his back to the defender every time, he's not going to need to worry about catching passes, he'll be on the sidelines with messed up knees/legs.

LOL cmhawks99, did you stroke out when you wrote the following about a week ago? Feel free expand the post and read through it, I highlighted some of the better ones. you even mention ISM in this rant. Here's a link to the original by the way.

https://iowa.forums.rivals.com/threads/after-further-review.211022/

I rewatched the first half and it pretty muched verified my initial reaction. Our offense went back to elements that plagued us so many times this year. Our defense played their butts off in the first half but were on the field too much and were handicapped by poor field position and Wisconsin executed to perfection a couple well designed plays on their first TD drive.

Now the offense.
Coaching: Another horrible game plan that didn't put our players in positions to be successful. Why were we in shotgun right off the bat and so much while 'pretending' we are running zone read? Our QB isn't 'reading' anything as he has no intention of pulling the ball and running, so what is the point? The unblocked DE sprinted to the RB everytime and Stanley handed it him anyway, where could have run untouched for 5-10 yds. easy on one play at least. Like I said before the game, line up and run power (not stretch) right down their throats and then play action and throw DEEP to back the defense up. We never threw the ball further than 10 yds. the whole first half. Unreal.

Wisconsin's blitzes are all zone blitzes as they only have 2 down lineman and you never know which of the 4 or 5 LB's are coming or where they are coming from and they like to stunt. To handle that, our OL would have to play very disciplined zone blocking in pass-pro, but it appeared they were 'man' blocking in pass-pro on several occasions allowing LB's to fly up the A gaps untouched. Welsh was helping to the outside numerous times or simply blocking 'air' while LB's are coming up the A gaps. Unreal. Poor coaching.

Fant and Hock are good receivers but can't block and don't appear to even put much of an effort into it, so why are they on the field if we're running the ball or even bootlegging? Pekar and Veir played a lot last year because they were decent blockers (especially Pekar) but we never see them. That is on the coaches! A couple examples; Hock motions and lines up in a 'H' back look (we had a FB also) and we run straight power to the left. Hock has to SEAL the LB but makes a halfass effort and allows the LB to just trip up Butler when we had them destroyed at the point of attack and should have been a huge run. Then they run a little rollout/boot action and Fant has to pin the LB to the inside. He makes a halfass attempt (and Wadley was supposed to 'chip' the same guy on his way out, and you should see that feeble 'attempt', it's laughable) and the LB chases down and hurries Stanley. Once again, this is on the coaches IMO.

BF is not a running back coach and it shows. The backs are way to impatient and missing the holes and especially cut backs than last year or any time that I can remember.

We reverted back to killing ourselves on 3rd down (we didn't convert a 3rd down the whole game) in the first half. 2 drives in the first half had false start penalties on 3rd down and then ISM drops a wide open easy pass that would have been a first down. Like I've said all year, this is the most undisciplined team I've can remember in the KF era. We got lucky against OSU because they were less disciplined than we were and that is pretty much all that amounted to.

Why is ISM still on the field coaches? How many drops does it take before you give others a chance? And where was Toren on the occasions when we did run power? Wadley is not an ISO RB. Sorry. Wadley goes down way to easy where Toren would run through some of those tackles and have some yards after contact. Unless Wadley has room to spin or jump cut, he is pretty much worthless between the OT's. 80% of the time, you don't have that room, but there are still hard running yards to be made.

Even Stanley had his problems but I don't put a lot of this on him, but on the play were he almost got sacked for the safety, he had plenty of time to throw and had Wadley open out of the backfield but he never even looked at him. Take what they are giving you young man.

I know this is a transition year with new coaches at 4 positions but I've said it before and I'll say it again, we have the wrong coaches at some of the positions and for some reason there is a lack of discipline this year. I don't buy the 'youth' excuse. KF better get a handle on his offensive staff or this isn't going to get better any time soon.

And don't get me started about not catching punts! I don't care if we have to put 3 people back deep on punt return....catch the goddamn punt!!!!

This team is better and has more talent than is showing on the field. Time to get some discipline going Kirk, starting with your son. I don't get on the coaches much and have great respect for KF. Sometimes the other team is better than us, but as long as we compete, I don't get too worked up about it. This team is WAY to talented to be playing the way they are playing. I don't think we've been 'out-talented' or out 'physicalled' by one team this year. We are just getting out disciplined and out coached in my opinion.
I decided to repost them so people wouldn't have to expand the comment to read this slander you put out on our poor coaches.

I still think we need to throw to Marsette. We desperately need speed on the outside and it appears he is our best option. Also, with all the drops he’s had, he must be looking great in practice otherwise he would not be playing at all. It is frustrating, but I think he could be a good one. Keep letting him return kickoffs. Put Jackson back returning punts again.

It’s in his head now. He’s fighting every ball thrown his way. He needs to relax and just play.
Agree 100 ... It's easy for us (fans) to sit back and judge when we've never been in that position. I think a few of us may remember Wadley and his fumble problems early in his career ... Power 5 football is an intense sport ... center stage ... lots of great athletes ... so yeah, there's some pressure that comes a long with that and so yeah ... an 18-19 year old just might feel some of that pressure ...

Dropping passes is a lack of focus! He needs some one to get in his grill and give him some focus! If that doesn't work there is always the stadium stairs.

I still see WR running out patterns shy of the 1st down marker. Its doesn't take a lot of effort to run another 2 yards and get the first down if you catch it.

What’s it like having to live with being that stupid?

What who is better at WR? Name 1 WR on our roster that would see the field at Wisky, NW, hell even Rutgers. Our WR core is pathetic and its the reason we can't run the ball. Teams can play man coverage vs our WR and they can commit 8-9 guys to the run.

I don't know you tell me, you seem to think we have good WR's. Take the black and gold glasses off and look around you.

Yup agree he is are only deep threat right now. JFC he's a freshman who will make mistakes. The guy is the fastest player on the team and people are saying he needs to be benched. Damnond Powell was lighting fast and everyone was saying to play him (even though he didn't understand the play calls). Smith Marsiette will be a good one when its all said and done.

What should we trot out MVB & Easley so they can run a 5yd out every time and get tackled right away. Marsiette can at least get on top of his DB, the other WR are lucky to get open vs man coverage.
