Dresser was having his own wrestlers forfeit against each other last year. Atleast that is no longer allowed.

I'm sure there will be a new rule soon to avoid this match fixing going on now. If you ain't cheating.. You ain't trying!

Can you imagine if a D1 football or basketball team threw a game like this? It would be all over the media, the schools would have consequences, and both coaches fired.

Why should wrestling be any different? I’m 100% serious... these head coaches should be fired.

And I’m no legal expert...but I suspect there could be both civil (athlete who just missed tourney sues) and potentially criminal ramifications. These coaches are STUPID to do this.

I'm a bit confused here. I thought exhibition matches didn't count towards seeding, or records. But actually they do?

they absolutely count towards the record. I’m not sure about anything else.

As usual, Dresser doing something unethical, but legal.

Complete joke. The good thing is most of these participants won't do shit at Nattys other than take a spot from someone more deserving.

Seriously...ppl need to flood the ADs of the schools and the NCAA to look at this.

I still can’t imagine how a head coach wouldn’t 100% no debate be fired for this.

Unless I'm missing something, this wasn't Dresser/ISU. It was Kent St and SIUE (and ASU/Lehigh in the other example)

Unfortunately, I'm assuming that if they decide to do something about this, they'll take the easy way out and just eliminate the extra matches altogether

Dressers scam was very similar. Zero second injury defaults between opposing schools and then non-competitive matches between teammates.

I'm confused, why are ISU and Dresser being talked about here, when the schools involved were Kent State and Southern Illinois?
This idea was originated by KD with the tourney in Gilbert last year.

It's a farce. Not anything to attend for a paying fan.

But Clone fans wouldn't grasp the concept.

I believe Dresser has pulled the same scam, and he is a bit of a weasel For what I have heard.
Dresser coached HS near our farm. He’s a hard bitten guy. Not quite as cold as that Rus skating bitch, but, you would not want to disappoint him. Would he cheat to win? I think not, but, he sure as hell would push every rule to or over the limit (a la NASCAR) to win. Better watch out in IC! Kevin may build em slow, but, he builds em good!

In '20 or so Dresser did two things if I recall. In one, he openely admitted to manually setting up a bracket to get his guy the matches he wanted so the guy could MFF and still get the D1 matches he needed. Then he later setup a tourney and had ISU guys matched up with each other with planned MFF to get the win.

My details are lacking and off, but I know the basics are right. Fix a bracket and put ISUvISU.

Last Chance Dresser open was originally a ticketed event. Now it is free no ticket needed. The Fixings must be really bad today I imagine so letting ppl in for free.

I'm sure I'm gonna get blasted, but can someone explain this to me like I'm a 12 year old? Maybe 14. Is this being done to increase the wrestler's win percentage thus raising their rankings? I'm learning here..... :)

In one of the matches in OP, Ervin is hurt and has wrestled in 14 matches this year.

You have to wrestle 15 matches in order to get an RPI ranking. This not only affects seeding, but it also affects how many automatic qualifying spots are given to your conference.

His win percentage is also borderline. So if he lost he would likely not have qualified the spot even though he got his 15th match.

So Kent St throws the match, allowing Ervin to essentially secure an extra qualifier at the weight for their conference tournament.

In the other match, the Lehigh wrestlers needed more matches to get to their 15. But they’re hurt and can’t wrestle. So outside the team score in the exhibition matches they walked out and injury defaulted to register another match. ASU was happy to take the free wins.

And I should also add, in addition to the shenanigans I listed above… Both coaches are literally negotiating/agreeing beforehand to get wins or losses for their wrestlers. I cannot imagine any reality in which throwing matches like that is not a violation of NCAA rules, likely their coaching contracts, and possibly even criminal statutes in some areas.

OK. Yep. Total BS. They should be penalized for that crap. Our sport fights enough already for a measure of respect. . .

We will be waiting, good thing for him he has a couple of IC built assistant coaches.

How on earth could there be criminal charges?

Not as bad as this but I have seen where they have a better guy wrestle the same worthless opponent from another team twice at a meet. One during the dual and one after.

He should have quit at "I'm no legal expert"

Google match-fixing arrest... there are tons of stories from tennis to soccer to ping pong.

Granted, most of those deal with gambling, which likely didn’t happen here directly...

...but in the wake of new states allowing sports gambling, some are passing betting integrity laws. This could very well violate such laws...but I’m not up to speed on which states have passed these.
