because in the ka'ran or however you spell that, it says jihad is necessary and fight till all the infidels are gone, yet in the bible it does not say to fight blacks until they are all gone, unless maybe you are a Mormon, it might say that in the book of Mormon.

Can you quote the passage, or did you just hear this from Alex Jones?

Does this mean you're going to stop lumping us in with racists and extremists? Because that would be great.
Why would I do that if you won't? I tried that in the hope of setting a good example, but it didn't work.

Actually, I routinely point out that not all Christians are evil. But a lot of them seem to endorse hate and violence. I usually think they aren't good Christians, but they insist they are, and I am regularly shouted down by self-described Christians, so I guess I'm wrong about that.

however, he's a cia operative, so I think he may have some motives, but still, he has the book right there

The bible indicates we should kill non-believers too (the OT of course). Christians are no better than the Muslims they bitch about so much. Two peas in a pod, really.

Deuteronomy 17:
If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant. And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded. And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel: Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Why are you Jew-bashing in this thread?

Get back to us when the guys in the white hoods bring down jet planes.

An innocent person's death is different from another innocent person's death because of the way they died? Read up on Emmett Till and let us know if whistling at a white girl deserves to be kidnapped, beaten and hung to death. Maybe you could provide some justification for his death for the rest of us.

Your the only guy I know who knows the vast majority of Republicans and Christians.

I course you know everything about everybody and everything so I guess it makes sense.
Well, yes it does make sense. But if you paid attention you would have noticed that I specifically referred to the "vast majority of Republican voices we are hearing."

If you want to claim that the R voices we are hearing don't reflect Rs in general you might be right. But, frankly, if you are right, I'd expect to have heard some pushback from Rs. Until McCain came out against this fear-mongering hysteria (which I saw this morning), I hadn't heard any Rs pushing back. More like all piling on the same hate-wagon. And that's true whether we're talking about press releases, news stories, interviews, facebook posts, or whatever.

You could probably make the point that the Quran and Bible are equally bad. I don't think you could make the case that Christians and Muslims are equally as devout in following the instructions contained in their respective books. Thankfully most Christians have found a way to tell God to get bent on a number of fronts.

While I am glad that America's Christians seem to have eschewed direct violence - other than the occasional anti-gay attack - how far below the surface do you think those impulses really are?

If/when Texas texts inform children across the country and evangelists gain more power in Congress (and soon the Supreme Court), are you so sure America will remain civilized? I mean we aren't that civilized right now, but mainly direct our blood lust toward foreigners. But does that make you feel safe?

It seems to be a big part of the faith. The Bible has the same condemnation about graven images the Quran has. Yet every Catholic church has a ton of them. Now 500 years ago Christians went berzerk about that. But I struggle to recall the last time a Catholic was targeted over the practice today. Somehow Christians decided parts of the Bible could either be ignored or at least they didn't need to help God punish people. It's a fact I appreciate. My position is all religions are wrong, but they aren't all equally wrong and to the same degree. In that continuum, evangelicals are much worse than Catholics.

These things seem to come in waves. A wave of Enlightenment, then a wave of Awakening. Islam seems to have entered a period of Awakening back in the 1960s - just about the time we were going through a period of rationality. We have been slipping into an Awakening of our own for a decade or 2, despite admirable counteroffensives. I fear we are closer than we might wish to a tipping point. The increasing reliance of the GOP on nutty religious views is part of the reason I am nervous about it.

While I don't expect us to suddenly see witch burnings or heresy trials, I'm sure clever people will have substitutes that are less vicious but equally effective at enforcing discrimination and putting reasonable people (including reasonable Christians) in fear. It's at a fairly trivial level now, but look at the anti-PC hostility and the claims of war against Christianity. The first justifies bigotry and hate speech, the second prepares for justified "defensive" violence.

I hope I'm wrong but, as was acknowledged above, I rarely am. ;)

Its smart to worry, constant vigilance and all that. As Fred points out the root books are full of the same evil lessons and aren't changing.

That's the level of scholarship I'd expect from you.

Uh huh.

Look, brah. What I'm saying isn't really refuted by most people of either faith. You realize that the Jews don't even recognize the New Testament, right?

The whole Christian faith is about original sin and the belief that Jesus died on the cross in order for you to receive salvation. That's basically it, and that all happens in the New Testament.
