May the largest pocket book win

It was. All the more reason him coming here to brag about it makes it so douchey.

If it's a fact, it ain't braggin. False statements need to be corrected. Smalls had it way wrong. He needs to stay in his lane.

You're garbage is constantly recognized here. Why don't you give it up and stop soiling yourself.

I'm sure you'll respond reflectsively, but don't expect an answer.

Mendez was offered $80,000 a year to go to Indiana for NIL deal per First Word. Looks like Suriano is going to the largest NIL bidder. Sorry to say PSU and tOSU will soon be unbeatable with the alumni $ they can throw at athletes for NIL deals.
If supporters of the IU wrestling program had that kind of money and are willing to give it to wrestlers/the wrestling program, why haven't they done so already? And, why does IU's wrestling program already suck so bad?
Btw, what makes you think tOSU with their large alumni base means they will suddenly start throwing money at wrestlers or paying their wrestlers big NIL deals? Like I already said in reference to IU, but it also applies to tOSU, if they had all these guys wanting to throw money at wrestlers/the wrestling program, they would already be doing it, and the Ohio State program and the Ohio RTC would already be rolling in cash. They always had a much bigger alumni base, but has that caused them to out maneuver Iowa when it comes to building a program and generating private donations? Nope...

They ain't poor, but they don't have the individual funding going into wrestlers and wrestling you think they have or could have. Their football stadium sells out every other Saturday with about 102,000 fans which is 30k more than Iowa's. That is a bigger difference in revenue. Their athletic department already pulls in about 88 million more per year than Iowa... and they spend about 66 million more... Yet, they only had a short window where they out performed Iowa (and it looks like those days are gone now) despite having a much larger alumni base. People in Iowa, and Iowa graduates support wrestling. The state of Ohio and the Ohio State University not nearly as much....

Lastly, let Mendez (and Suriano) go to the highest bidder if that is indeed the case. I think there are probably several factors going into his college decisions. But if NIL $ is a big part of tha decision, that shows he isn't focused on Olympic Gold etc. If he was, he would go to the school that was still a good fit, but where he would develop the most as a wrestler. Sorry, that ain't going to be happening at IU. So, he can go to IU and then start losing to the guy who chose Iowa. Suriano makes no difference. Wherever he goes, Iowa was not in the plans ever anyway. However, I would love to see Suriano at Iowa State. They need the help, and it also gets Suriano out of the Big Ten.

<<The money that Tom raised isn't all needed now. huge boost to HWC and whatever coffers they can use it for otherwise.>>

The facility estimates have NOT gone down and as of now are still estimates. This is an educated guess, but every penny raised for facility will be needed plus more.

Willie calling you an idiot in 3, 2, 1.

Serious question. Where do we inquire, or who can we email about getting someone kicked off this board? Probably a mute point as they will just manifest under a different username, but some good would have to come from it, right?

Crablegs, seriously go back to *your own board. Do you enjoy a whole fanbase being throughly annoyed by you? Originally I liked *your insight and thought you brought something to the table. Even though you didn't realize *your own board thought ISU had a shot at #1 you were level headed about it. Now it only seems like you are interested in goating people. Give it up, man. Get a life. Find somewhere else to waste *your time. You are not liked here. I'm guessing if you keep poking the guy that has taken it upon himself to donate his hard earned cash to the good of Iowa Wrestling you'll have more people like me coming out of the wood work to attack you. As you should.

anyway - listen to the show. i don't pimp it often. this one is worth it (imo)
No matter if I agree with you or not, glad to have you back on the air as FRL became unlistenable shortly after you left, which I didn't think would happen, but on that I guess you were right.

However - You have to clean up that show. You and that other bald dude have to figure out which one of you is the play by play guy and which is Ed McMahon. You can't keep interrupting and talking over each other.

Can he not figure out your pace? Whenever you pause for dramatic affect, dude jumps in and starts gabbing. Tell him to stfu and be a better listener. Give him a copy of 7 Habit and tell him to study it. He is trying so hard to get his points across that he's not even listening to what you are saying.

The segment where you were trying to make a point on NIL using a baseball example was the most frustrating few minutes of my entire day, thought I was on a baseball podcast for a few mins, and I hate baseball.

Your team needs 1 main voice, yours,. The rest of the team needs to be Fred and Robyn and let Howard Stern do his thing.

False

The U and "women's donors" are both zero

There is no change.

In addition, donors to the Facility and HWC are completely separate.

i apologize if there was some inaccuracy. however, are you trying to tell me the university (and state) are not paying anything towards the new facility? i heard otherwise. you probably know better than me, but i heard that recently.

you also put 'women's donors' in quotes when i never wrote that. i also didn't write that donors to the facility and HWC were the same.

I actually like a lot of your posts. You often give solid, although often contradicting viewpoints to many on this board. But, you actually back it up with more experience and actual wrestling knowledge than most on this board. However, in THIS CASE you are the one being the DOUCHE.

The guy LITERALLY donated a TON of money to Iowa. That is undeniably commendable. His response was directly to someone he believes misrepresented where all those hard earned donations are going. By saying what he donated he CLEARLY showed he is in a position to be much more credible in this case than Willie.

If he just said, "Willie you are wrong" he wouldn't show near the credibility. Now many may actually already know what he has done, but the post, with full context, makes it clear who you should believe...

Exactly what I feared with the new rules. Amateurism and education take a back seat. Money will become the all important factor. Kids will now be highly enticed to start using preformance enhancing drugs to get the financial edge. Teams are simply bought. Wrestlers are enticed with big bucks to switch to another better paying team. Great coaching won't even be that big of a factor anymore - just purchase the best kid. DON'T LIKE IT. Money corrupts everything.

that might be the case assuming the women’s team shares the new facility. If they use the old wrestling room and locker facility cost sharing might not apply. probably determined by any agreement made by the athletic department and the university. if the university and board of regents refused to help fund anythng for the men’s team seems contradictory that now they would agree to pay half.

Just to set this one straight: The new wrestling facility will house both the men's and women's teams.

Thanks. I like your posts too, and even when we disagree I know you’re going to come with a solid argument and not just resort to name calling.

In terms of credibility, I don’t think Mr Nicolls needed to remind everyone here about his large donation. We all know. Him reminding us again is just boasting plain and simple.

At the very first meeting some 5 years ago with Barta, he indicated that the school would provide zero dollars. All funds would have to be private. Enough was raised by July 1 for the project to move ahead, still 100% private.

Fund raising continues likely due to the desire to add bells and whistles and that women will be in the new facility. The original vision had no women because that program did not exist. Again, the school is contributing zero to the facility construction regardless of gender use.

You wrote this is a huge boost to HWC. It is, but fundraising for the two are totally separate. It seemed you were implying the two were connected. They are not.

Hope that clears things up.

Concerning the accuracy of the claims, Mr Nicolls was completely justified in citing why he has very accurate first hand knowledge. That ended all debate.

I too understood Willie to be suggesting that it was a slush fund to be directed anyway Coach Brands wanted. That just seemed such a bizarre claim to me. If people donate for a new facility, that money should only and always be used for a new facility.

Well since he put his money where his mouth is and you haven't donated anything of any value to the effort i think ...you got owned !! Some where in Ames there is the front end of a horse wandering around just wondering where its ass is... and Here you are.

y'all just raised $25mil, (half of which you don't need now), and landed a monster recruiting haul, and you're worried about being outbid?
Welcome back to the cesspool, Willie. The bogeyman (Carl or Tan Tom) are always trying to steal our lunch. ;)
However, I am inclined to believe bnicolls over you when it comes to program funding. Sometimes, you are just wrong.

I don't' understand the hostility here. Willie wasn't coming in to put the program or anybody down. If he was wrong, that's fine, but he was trying to break good news. Seems like someone he talked to had the wrong information, but I don't see why you had to come in and turn this into a dick swinging contest.

He was responding to crabby mostly because he was being a jackstick and made a mention of willie. Point is he clubbed crabby not Willie.

He just posted to clear up the air and put crabby in his place, sorry if that makes you feel like your male anatomy is inadequate.

I'm not going to open Pandora's Box, the Ark of the Covenant or even a Can of Worms. I put "Largest Donor" to provide context and authority to posting that "100% of the funds are private". Had I seen the comment from someone other than Smalls, maybe I would have let it go. However, Smalls has a business and people look to him for accurate information and may just take his word for it as opposed to someone else.

Let me just say that in the course of doing business with the U administration over the last five years, for someone to suggest that the U or the State are putting up any $$ for this project, is inflammatory.

On a positive note, the team will have a great facility to train in and recruit to. HWC has done an outstanding job to close the fundraising gap with PSU, and I'd note that all funds are private there as well. I am proud to be a part of these efforts and do what I could do to help out the program.

We fans will enjoy the fruits of the aforementioned for a long time due to these improvements, along with: Iowa tradition, coaching, fan base, attendance, Tom & Terry, Gable etc etc

Good news or bad news you should probably have your ducks in a row before you hit "post reply". And if you're in the media, being wrong is not fine, it's your job to be right, other than when you're voicing an opinion. I say that with no particular like or dislike of Willie, I'm sure he's a good enough guy, and a flawed human being like the rest of us.

As for Mr. Nicolls, he can feel however he wants to feel and I'm certain he's smart enough to know someone might be "offended" because of his commentary. And like me he probably doesn't give a shit about your "feelings", deal with it as best you can (pure speculation on my part of course).

There seems to be little doubt that Mr. Nicolls has put in a lot of time, money and effort into this huge project. We're damn lucky he's on our side, IMO (we being actual Iowa fans, not the fake variety that interact here - most of us know who they are, or so I would hope).

Mr. Nicolls puts his money where his mouth is. Regardless of the situation or amount, it doesn't get any better than that, IMO. Good day.

if you are going to report as a “journalist” it needs to be more than just, SOMEONE TOLD ME. often times if it’s what someone wants to believe facts just aren’t necessary. plus smalls didn’t state it as a rumor it was stated as a fact.…and there are past instances to consider.

my feelings definitely weren't hurt fwiw. i definitely appreciate his inside info and correction of the record. i just found the tone towards willie specifically (that he needs to stay in his lane) a little strange considering he's pretty clearly close to the program and friends with the staff. and i don't think there was any sort of negative insinuation about it either. in hindsight, i can see how crabs might have rustled some feathers that carried over, so that may just be it.

I would use the term "friends" loosely when referring to Willie being "friends" with the staff. My speculation ofcourse.

Thanks for all you have done Bob. You are a true hero to the program. I'm have no doubt you will lead the charge for club funding as well.

friendly would probably have been the better word. he talks about texting with morningstar on his show frequently and they did let him come hang out during the recruiting weekend. many of you might hate willie, but the staff clearly doesn't.

I'd look at it as more of a necessary evil, shiniest of turds (compared to Flo and Mineo) sort of situation.

Don't forget he didn't hesitate to thrash us when the women were leaving the HWC, even though his info turned out to be demonstrably false. The staff certainly hasn't forgotten.

Geesh. it was just a comment on a message board. not a 'report'.

i was just mentioning what i had heard - that some costs would be negated b/c the state and u would be chipping in. if that's not the case, i apologize (but it makes sense to me and someone above said that's the case).
