Future Hawk Justin Mejia is going to be competing for team CA on the Junior National Freestyle Dual Team. He is listed on their roster as a 120/126 lber. My thoughts (and Jaysdad is welcome to set me straight if I'm wrong) is we'll see him at 120. CA has a very good 126lber in nationally ranked state champ David Campbell. Unless Campbell wrestles up at 132, I see Justin wrestling 120. Mejia beat Campbell in the 2015 state finals at 113lbs in a very close match. Also, the only other guy listed on their roster is Chase Zollman (113 lb state 3rd place finisher), who is a big step down from Mejia. I suppose we could see Justin wrestled up at 126 for matchup reasons in certain duals. CA has a solid team with both Wicks on board as well as state Champ Jeremy Thomas ( hammered by the Marinelli in the Ironman finals) as well as state runner-up Anthony Montanano.

Mejia doesn't wrestle a lot of freestyle, so I'm super excited to see how he transitions. I think his style is already well suited for freestyle. He's always pushing forward, taking ground, so he'll get his fair share of push out point. He doesn't shoot a lot from space, where guys get put in head pinch, crotch lift situations, his motor is excellent and he's got a brutal turk on top.

Fun fact: If Team Iowa matches up with Cali, we could get a great match up between future Hawks with Jack Wagner v Justin Mejia. Great stuff!

Another tough matchup at 120 is Sebastian Rivera from NJ. He wrestled these duals last year and was undefeated going 7-0. He followed that up with Super 32 and a NJ state title at 113 pounds. He's committed to Northwestern. It'd be good to see how both Mejia and Wagner match up against a future B10 foe.

Thanks for the rundown SoCal...going to see how Justin makes the transition. Had to happen sooner or later at Iowa. Good luck Justin!!

Awesome news. Cali will have a tough team for freestyle. I love this tournament. There won't be a lot of work done by this guy the next few days.

Does anyone have any concern that Justin will decide to attend Fresno State? I don't have any inside information. Just observing that he now has a "home" option under a great coach. I hope he stays a Hawkeye.

I think he knows where he must go to become the stud that he is destined to become, fresno may become a better option in the future , but right now it would be a gamble for someone with justins potential. I guess money could be a factor, but I think becoming a hawkeye has been a long time goal for him, worried maybe a little still pretty confident he will be a national champ for the university of iowa.

He has seemed all Hawkeye ever since his commitment.
