Sounds like Mejia may be decommitting? He removed all things saying he is a future Hawkeye and Iowa logo from his twitter plus this tweet just popped up a few mins ago.

Sounds like he wanted to be a Hawk but it didn't work out. Don't know if that's because of Lee's commitment or if Iowa backed off. Wish him nothing but the best.

I was thinking Fresno and ASU, UNC would be a good choice as well they are becoming listed a lot amongst top recruits lately. My guess is Fresno State showed up with a significantly bigger offer than the Hawks, maybe double-ish. It sucks to see him go, as I believe he would have flourished in the Iowa room (as I think any elite light weight will at this point). But at least this doesn't hurt too bad, we still have Wagner, Rathbun, Stickley, Lee, Renteria, and Teasdale on board with Murin still a possibility. Still a very good lightweight room.

That is a problem with committing so early. I am sure that Iowa still would love to have him and he would love to come to Iowa, but the finances just didn't work out.

Wish the young man the best. Enjoyed watching him wrestle. Would have loved to see him in black and gold.

This doesn't surprise me after some of the posts his dad has been making. I was looking forward to seeing Justin in black and gold. I hope he goes to Fresno State. We are still in great shape and this could be a blessing if it allows us to get Berge and Warner.

Sucks. Kid has a great heart and will do very well in D1 somewhere.
The writing was kind of on the wall when lee and Teasdale committed.
Looks like scholly money/ finances do matter to some recruits even if they do love your school and your coaches. I'm looking at you, psu

Do the hawks throw a little more money at Murin as well for potential 141? Lee - Teasdale - Murin. They're all Young Guns, and good buddies. Murin was reported a big Hawkeye fan, I believe something along the lines of 'if the number is right Murin will be a hawkeye' when that Todd Conner interview of him went up. Or will they not recruit anybody behind Happel? I'm really hoping we at least get Berge and Warner if not Murin.

I remember when Justin first verballed. He said something to the effect of how he was going to be a Hawkeye no matter what. He didn't care how much he was going to get.
Well if he didn't care than his parents sure did, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Money matters.....unless you're psu. All their recruits come from independently wealthy families.

Yeah, that's easy to say when you're 14. I would highly recommend anyone who can get a full ride athletic scholarship to go that route, even if it means not going to your top choice of school.

Wasn't it JaysDad who was getting a little upset that we fans wanted Lee when Mejia was already commited?

I made that prediction after Lee/Teasdale. It's a shame, but probably a smart decision on his part and it is probably better for the Hawks, as well.

Hager tweeted that it wasn't due to another school, "just didn't work out". Could that possibly be grades? Hope dad at least comes on to dispell that possibility.

It wasn't another school or grades. Than it was they either couldn't afford it, or Brands encouraged him to look elsewhere.

In another post I made the point that it's hard when these kids commit before they are eligible to discuss finances and the multitude of other details that are prohibited from being discussed before a kid reaches a certain age. While I don't know why ether of these kids de-committed, my gut tells me it has a lot to do with the details, both financial and interest from Iowa, with all of the lightweights committing.

I never had an issue with his fathers posts and thought Justin would be a great fit for us. Sorry to see him look elsewhere, but know he will be a winner where ever he goes. Also, don't under estimate the impact of the Tony Ramos departure on Justin and JRent. Both seem to have a similar mentality as TR, and while I don't think Justin goes to NC, I think you might see JRent make that move.

Any chance Mejia has second thoughts like Gilman and becomes a Hawkeye? Just seems like his heart and passion were in Iowa City.

I got to hand it to brands for doing what is best for his team once again. Whether it is or not remains to be seen, but he believes he did the right thing so who are we to judge at this point.

Some of these kids early commit, to carve out their spots and the coaches just dont possess the conjones to say well thanks but no thanks or 80/20 is now 40/60 so as not to start drama or give coaches like Darth Ryan any more negative recruiting ammo.

Lee/Teasdale >>>> Mejia/Renteria all day every day. Lee is a generational talent that could be big for your program years after his tenure is over the same way DT is right now for PSU.

Plus if the rumors are true, the new guy(s) that are bringing their talents to Iowa City will have you feeling no pain.
