Locally in Iowa City area last night a channel replayed the Iowa 31-28 win over Purdue in 2002 in Iowa City. Iowa was coming off their dramatic OT win at Penn State the week before to go 3-1. I remember the game but was reminded of some amazing things that happened in that game for Iowa in their win:
-Antwan Allen returned a block field goal 90 yards for a TD just before halftime to put Iowa back into the game at 14-10 instead of going to the locker room down 17-3.
-Dallas Clark took a simple pass 95 yards in the flat and ran straight down the Iowa sideline for a TD late in the 3rd quarter that gave Iowa a 24-14 lead
-Dallas Clark's TD pass from Brad Banks on 4th down in the south end zone to give Iowa the lead 31-28 with under 2:00 to play
-Adolphus Shelton intercepting a deflected ball off the Purdue receiver in the final seconds as Purdue was driving deep in Iowa's end to either tie the game with a FG or score a winning TD
And while not a score, HUGE run by Brad Banks of 30+ yards on a QB draw on the first play on Iowa's last drive to cross the 50-yard line to set up the ultimate winning TD!
That game was a classic. Iowa had 10+ penalties in the game and were really stymied in the first half by Purdue, then seemed to get the game under control going to the 4th quarter, then relinquished a 10-point lead, then scored in the end on dramatic fashion to win.
Hope this one Saturday is a bit easier.
