Miami Beach condo evacuated over structural concerns

Agreed.

I wonder what happens to the people now homeless. Building insurance covers short term living arrangements?
I don’t know. I’m making some assumptions here but this is probably a condo where they pay fees. And who knows how long this has been a known pending problem. Condo boards and members can often be a huge hassle to get anything agreed upon, paid for, etc. So this could have been brewing for a while. Just speculation here but I could see how this has played out.

Dan LeBatard show has a Miami segment each week going over different government corruption. Apparently a dead inspector has been signing off on buildings. Weirdly, they didn’t mention if that guy has a supervisor or anything.

Makes sense to me........why not use a dead person. I would think a ghost would do at least as good a job. They're able to see structural issues from more angles, including the inside of walls.

I guess if you don't believe in ghosts, then it might look really bad.

I can’t wait until Ron DeSantis brings this level of loose oversight to the entire federal government.
It’s been 18 months since the Surfside collapse. This government action occurred to prevent it from happening again.

Miami Dade County actually has stepped up. They sent inspectors out not every building older than 40 years. There were several that were highlighted.

I can personally verify that the city of Miami, Miami Beach, and Miami Dade elevator inspection agencies are top notch in their enforcement of the codes.

More condo owners priced out

Long term condo ownership never made sense to me, being in a situation where you’re relying on the decision making / financial well being of so many other people for the roof over your head.

80% is a high threshhold for a vote. This is 6 of 190 units that held out?
3% extremists/unreasonable sounds about right, doesn’t it?

I wonder what the repair bills are that 97% of people said, ‘screw it!’ to.

'some of these condos have no reserves'

well, stupid is as stupid does

'what are we supposed to do if we get a $50k special assessment?'

take out a loan, associations generally partner with a lender for this very purpose in the event that something major comes up like ensuring the building can remain upright
