It would be rather surprising if Paul Glynn is getting significant assistance.
I agree, and that's not a shot at Glynn at all, but if he's getting any then Crablegs statement that MZ wouldn't deserve "any money" doesn't work. Anyway, I guess it's moot so I'll drop it!

No way he is getting any athletic scholarship. Never won a state championship, and never did anything nationally. Good room guys, but not going to help us win national championships.

But, Glynn is a good comparison. As far as I can tell, Glynn is the only guy that MZ has wrestled that would be a good indicator of how he'd do in D1. MZ is a tiny bit better than Glynn.
God there are a lot of posters on here who dont know shi@>

I believe most posters seriously over estimate the money being handed out to kids. Especially, if they have little/none national success. Hold and wait policy is very active at D1 programs during sophomore and junior years :)

As far as MZ, good for him to play both sports and receiving any $$$ from GV.

Still a project at best, IMO. But I would like to have 2-4 walk-ons projects come into our room each year.

If he is a project "at best", who in Iowa's room right now would you compare him to out of curiosity? And if you say he has had little or no national success please point to his failures, or else replace "success" with "experience".

Little/no experience== little/no success at this point in his career. I didn't take the time to look at track to search what tournaments he has attend. Nor will I because I just don't care the much tbh. You can take the time, but I'm pretty sure u know already;)

There has been many state champs that have come to Iowa as projects. Just because u win state 2X doesn't mean your not a project at D1. Every wrestling program needs room guys/projects/starters/studs.

I'm no expert so I'll throw this out there since I've only seen MZ wrestle in the finals at state this year so I have no knowledge of how great he is/isn't but he looked like a beast to me but maybe his competition was weak.

How does MZ compare to Brody Grothus coming out of HS? Didn't Gable give Brody some pretty high praise after states his SR year?

Brody scored what? .5 pts in his career at nationals? Would MZ have that potential?

I would think if similar and we were interested in Brody that much that MZ upside would be as much or more.

I agree, there are MANY 2X state champs that don't have have the talent to cut it in a D1 room, hell there's been 4-timers for that matter. This kid, at least to me, doesn't look like like one of them. At all. You can speculate that he hasn't wrestled anyone but the kid he teched in the state finals be th 2A 145 champ a couple times is year so he wasn't bad. Hopefully Happel accepts the match at the N/S meet and we'll be treated to that match, will be fun to watch. I'm with you that Fargo or Super 32 placements carry more weight than state championships.

I whole hearty agree national events be the standard. I'd rather have a multi place winner at Fargo then a guy who's a 1-2x champ at his state. There has been many a state champion made by easy schedules and luck of draws.

Take for Rathbun for instance. Do I believe him being 3timer and runner-up translates to starting at Iowa? Not all, I'd be surprise if he is a multi year starter if he starts at all......i.e a room guy. Especially with who's coming behind him.

Pretty sure it's not happening though. They are currently working on a new match for Zachary, but he really wanted Happel.

Any insight as to why the Happel/Zachary match isn't happening?

Happel will wrestle for Team USA vs Minnesota this weekend, and then I think he is taking a week off of training. He is pretty serious about Fargo and I am not sure if he wants to just start training exclusively in freestyle.

Is Fargo something Zachary might do? I'm not sure what if any national events he has attended in the past.
