They struggled offensively all afternoon at home against Wisconsin, and Wisconsin's #1 linebacker didn't play. Wisconsin's defense is superior to ours, but I don't think they're that far ahead of us against a pro-style, low mobility, type quarterback.

I fully expect this Iowa defense to continue to improve. We have @ Purdue, Wisconsin, and @ Penn State. I'd say 2-1 is more likely than 1-2. 3-0 isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility either but unlikely. If we go 2-1 it'll be a 6-3 Iowa vs. a likely undefeated, top 4 Michigan.

Michigan will be coming into a difficult early November night environment at Kinnick stadium against an Iowa team that should be loose with not nearly as much to lose. Will be interesting to see how Speight plays at Michigan State in two weeks in what will be his first road test against a decent defense.

I don't care what Michigan did to Rutgers. I just don't see Michigan lining up and running the ball down our throats. Speight will have to make some plays. If we can play well on special teams and our offense can have at least some resemblance of a pulse, I think this could end up being a very close game.

I wish people would stop this whole Michigan is going to kill us manta. It's getting old.

Like last year our D has been very inconsistent.....if they don't play at full potential MI will most certainly destroy us.

I would love to see Iowa beat Meatchicken, but after scoring only 14 against Rutgers and Minny, Iowa will need at least double that even if the defense plays 'lights out'.

rose colored glasses? I would say 1-2 is more likely than 2-1 over the next 3 games. Michigan will completely shut down Iowa's offense! Spread will be around -9 for Michigan at Kinnick Stadium.
I don't see why it is that hard to believe that Iowa could beat psu and pu......

I also don't see why it is that hard to believe Iowa could beat Wisconsin at home. We struggle against speed at the quarterback and running back position where we're spread out defending lots of pre-snap motion, mesh point read/draw type offenses. Wisconsin has a big, young, slow quarterback, and they're going to line up and try to run down hill with little to no deception. Basically just like we do. We rarely struggle against these antiqued schemes that resemble ourselves, and that's why Wisconsin doesn't scare me.

Upsets happen all the time in college football, so I'd give the Hawks a puncher's chance of staying in the game against Michigan, but they'd need a bunch of breaks -- turnovers, some home cooking from the refs for a change, execution out of their minds, etc. -- to hang. But crazier things have surely happened in this sport. Not inconceivable that it's a close game, but I'd give us about a 10% chance of hanging with them or winning it.

Michigan's D is allowing something like 12% third down conversions for the year. On paper that looks like a lot of 3-and-outs for the Iowa O. Eventually that adds up. Have you noticed how bad the Hawks are at running for 1st downs?

To have a chance on offense, we'll have to break pretty much every tendency in the book. We'll have to do something like what we did against MSU in the B10 championship game where we attacked the edges with a short passing game and got the TE's involved early. If we come out and run it on 1st and 2nd down on a regular basis, it'll get ugly fast.

I'd like to see an assortment of screens (middle, RB, tunnel, and bubble), draws (to Wadley and by CJ), reverses, and deep throws on 1st down off of play-action in an effort to keep them off balance to some degree. If this Michigan defense knows what's coming, they'll eat us alive.

Would be fun to see Kirk throw caution to the wind for a change. The crowd would love it. If nothing else, it would be fun to watch. Frankly, it's our only chance, IMO.

The transitive property doesn't hold up in college football, so despite the fact that Iowa struggled mightily against an awful rutgers team and scUM just destroyed them has less meaning.
However, the level of play of scUM's defense overall as compared to Iowa's offense in the season to date is more relevant and that bodes very poorly for Iowa.
I agree with WWDM in that Iowa has a "puncher's chance" as it were, but not much more than that. If scUM holds to form and comes in to Kinnick unbeaten, an improbable Iowa win could be considered the biggest upset of the KF era.

I'm not saying we'll win. They aren't going to dismantle us. They aren't going to beat us by 21+. I would see if being something like 24-10. That's not a dismantling. Someone said we have a 10% chance of winning, and I'd say less than that. If Michigan is undefeated the officiating will be heavily skewed in their favor.

Michigan moved the ball down the field with regularity against Wisconsin but missed 3 FGs to make the score a lot closer than the stats otherwise showed.
9 of Michigan's 14 drives went from 21 yards or less. That is hardly moving the ball with regularity. Michigan's offense was the beneficiary of a Wisconsin offense that couldn't sustain a drive longer than 6 plays after the first drive. The difference in the game was Wisconsin's dropped INTs and passes.

2 of those drives were Michigan running into a 9 man box to kill time at the end of the game. Congrats on stopping them. Michigan had 349 yards of total offense. They had drives of 77 yards, 64 yards, 64 yards, 43 yards, 32 yards and 21 yards on the other 12 drives. Moving the ball wasn't exactly a herculean task for the Michigan offense. Wisconsin, on the other hand, had a long drive of 37 yards for the game.

My fondest memory of n Football is of how The Ohio State Buckeyes cause the rapid exit of Michigan Fans from the Big House last year. The TV coverage of them leaving and running to their cars and elsewhere was priceless.

Our Defense might hold them for awhile until they wear out. On the other hand, Michigans defense might score 40 points in safeties.

We need to pray for 30+ mph winds, plus some rain, sleet, ice, or snow. The worse the weather the better our chance at keeping it close. Below zero would also help. Especially if the fans can tinker with their sideline heaters.

They may not kill us but they will beat us. If we don't beat Purdue and Illinois, there will be no bowl game for us.

So over half of Michigan's drives went for next to nothing. The other half got them a grand total of 14 points. Just be glad our DB's couldn't catch a cold or the first TD doesn't happen and one of the missed FG's is probably a pick six. Michigan sure didn't make it look easy at home against a defense down several starters.

LOL

not trying to start a pissing match with a whiny Badger fan. Just pointing out Michigan moved the ball well against the Badgers. Nothing more, nothing less.

Except they didn't. The 4.6 yards per play Michigan had would put them 113th in the FBS on the season.

Homers gonna homer though

I guess racking up 350 yards on about 11 drives worth of trying is getting totally stonewalled. Oh well. I guess they only spent about 1/2 the game in Wisconsin territory. Very ho hum effort.

Could you describe Wisconsin's offense in that game? Because they had about 1/3 of the yards Michigan did. I'm sure you'd love to apply some advanced math and statistical analysis to it.

Wisconsin's offense was bad. Down to our 4th string guard, our interior line got manhandled and receivers dropped several passes. Hornibrook overthrew a wide open receiver for a would-be TD. There's a reason why Michigan was able to have the ball as long as they did and it wasn't because they were moving the ball at will. Average starting field position at the 35 sure wouldn't take much to get the ball across midfield a few times. I'd love to see what math makes 159 a third of 349 though.

Iowa will need a miracle to hang with this Michigan team. Their entire defense will end up in the NFL. They are loaded w/4* and 5* players. Even when their offense is struggling, they bring in their playmakers from the defensive of the ball to run the offense and they always break a big play.

I would love to see the hawks win, but I am not very hopeful. I think it will be something like 45-10 or 45-17. Iowa just doesn't have the horses to compete with them.

Ferentz breaking tendencies? You are talking about a coach that sat on the ball with two minutes remaining in the first half yesterday.
They didn't sit on the ball. They were penalized early in the drive giving them little shot of converting a first down and taking some shots to get us in FG range (which is a small range this year). With how we've been protecting Beathard, we were just as likely to give up a sack deep in our end and give them a chance to return a punt close to FG range.

I did not like the look of that Jabby Peepers at QB running the read option and roll out passes! I don't like the idea of seeing that at Kinnick in a couple weeks one bit!

Iowa plays up to the level of their competition for the most part (OSU in 2013, MSU in Indy, just to name a few) But they do lay an egg once in awhile (see Rose Bowl). I don't see Michigan killing us, good game the whole way through. Will We Win? More than likely not, but we will be in it.

Michigan could well be the best team in the country!

yep 12% teams are 10-82 on third down. michigan defense leads the country in total yards giving up 212 a game. number one in points per game 10.3. number 2 in sacks and tackle for loss.

guys.. have been watching some Hawk football and there is no way you hang .. and that UM D is murder good.. they'll DESTROY you (and everybody not named tOSU) it will be one of those games where you just want your guys to get out healthy. Their DE's are unreal.. they pressure well yet never, I mean ever lose contain. They are special. I hate UM but they are legit. Looking forward to seeing you guys at Happy Valley.-sg
