Michigan Spring Break Practices in Florida

Read today in the local Detroit paper that Harbaugh and company took the entire football team to Bradenton, Florida for 4 days of spring practice. Interestingly, his practices are open so anyone can come and watch. It gets better, they are practicing at The IMG Academy where the top player for 2017's class, a linebacker, goes to school. If you have not heard of IMG Academy, they are a football factory.

Since this is a dead period, they can not personally make contact but can still text and phone. Any top player from the area can be called to stop by and watch. I have to admit it is ingenious.

This is spring break for Michigan, so the team gets a few days of fun in the sun and the coaches can use it as a recruiting tool in talent rich Florida.

SEC schools are pissed having someone else in their backyard but they are trying to argue that UM is taking away a student's spring break period. Because, you know, its all about the student-athlete down there.

Read in Florida paper that only Friday practice would be open.
Having IMG players able to observe practice would be definite advantage but lost teams host players during spring

You are correct we do have kids visit in the spring, but they are within driving distance. Hard to get kids from Florida to visit in the spring on their own nickle.

It's a fantastic marketing agenda put on by Harbaugh. That is how recruiting is done. We need our old ball coach to develop, not necessarily the same ideas, but creative and inventive ways to display Iowa on a attractive national scope. It's about being proactive and getting ahead of others, while also being within NCAA guidelines that is drastically needed to take our recruiting up a notch.

I despise Harbaugh and his questionable recruiting tactics but I have to admit the SOB is pretty darn creative about "bending" the rules to benefit himself and promote his program. The NCAA is going to have to hire a dedicated full time investigator to just keep track of Harbaugh.

I like how Michigan is having their spring game under the lights. We need to follow suit. Yes we rrally only have a glorified practice, but being in Kinnick under the lights always has a special feeling to it. I have no idea what the attendance would be like, but it sure couldn't get much worse. Just my opinion.

Yet Kirk may be the only coach in America, outside of the SEC, that's against satellite camps.

El oh el

Kirk Ferentz has the ability to participate in satellite camps and has done so plenty, but he’d rather they be outlawed, and he says it’s leading to an AAU-style environment with football.

Satellite camps have been a point of debate for the past year, even though the camps themselves have been around for a long time. It’s gotten to the point where the SEC will lift a self-imposed ban on its coaches next summer if the NCAA doesn’t ban them.

Given the benefits they provide for both teams and players, a ban is unlikely to happen. But Ferentz actually sides with the SEC coaches who want to cut them out.

“What it really gets down to is just how you want to use your time. Me personally, I’m hopeful — and the NCAA will probably react — my personal preference is I’d like to see camps probably be limited to campus. On top of that, I would support not allowing any outsiders coming to work your camp.”

I think there is a lot more people against them but that doesn't mean they won't do them until the NCAA stops them or limits them in some way.

So, a stroll down the ESPN College Football home page displays 17 articles about Michigan, Harbaugh or a picture of a Michigan player.

17 !

He is clearly the new face of the B1G. Urban Meyer and Dantonio must be steaming (so at least something good is coming from it).

I think Michigan is going to be Bama North for a while. Harbaugh and Saban may be pricks, but they are absolutely dominant right now. I'm afraid Iowa may have lost it's best chance for a B1G championship for sometime to come.

What is the deal with harbaugh taking a shot at the Tennessee coach on Twitter?

Bielema commented on Harbaugh having practice at IMG and talked about taking his staff down their to watch the practice....Dantonio responded by asking Bielema if he wanted to "do lunch". Butch Jones(Tenn HC) responded by asking if he could join them for lunch...Harbaugh told Jones that he needed to worry about what is going on with his own team...

So it was unprovoked? What a dick move. Business as usual for harbaugh I guess

I usually can't stand Harbaugh but I thought the shot at Jones was great. When I saw Jones get involved with that the other day I couldn't believe it. I was thinking the exact same thing as Harbaugh. What Jones and his players are accused of is awful.

Can't speak for other schools, but would absolutely HATE seeing OSU switch to a chilly Friday night spring game. They drew almost 100,000 fans (99,000 and some change) to last year's spring game and the recruits that witnessed it left in awe. Part of the huge crowd (a national record) was due to the great spring weather on a Saturday afternoon. No way I want to see them change, especially if they have the recruits attend this year that are projected.

Yeah I can see where you are coming from. I look at it as it couldn't be any colder than it was on November 14 when we had a night game with Minnesota. It was perfect football weather IMO. I also would argue that recruits would get more enjoyment/excitement out of it if it was played at night. Like I said there's always that special feeing in the air when you're under the lights. Plus in Iowas case it might actually bring excitement and make some fans come check it out.

Don't mind goofer, he is rather pathetic....he pretty much said the same thing on the other thread. He also thought the Denver Metro area was in Minnesota too so there is that

Urban hasn't left campus and he has 2-5* 6-4* and 3-3*, plus a good kicker already committed this year. I'm not sure he's steaming that much!

You mean the thread you vanished from once I called you out on your ridiculousness?

There you go again Dano. Not sure why you crawled out of your rodent hole to take another inconsequential shot at Kirk but please leave. Tell you what, when Minnesota goes to the Rose Bowl then you can come back to this site. Maybe we'll see you in 20 or 30 years.

Steaming at not getting his face and quotes ever where like he used to. I think he has a bit if an ego! ;)

Not an Ohio State fan, so I will agree Jimbo has come into the conference and has grabbed the news cycle from everyone else. Jimbo is the Donald Trump of college football...

I'm not taking shots at the Capt, I'm simply posting facts & actual quotes.

It baffles me how fans on this board will blindly stick up for Kirk in regards to recruiting. Not only are they satisfied with his methods, you have fans like milehighchickenhawk24 who are convinced it's actually superior and more methodical to what the tops B1G staffs are doing, all the while finishing consistently several places behind those programs when judged from any recruiting metric.

Just wait, hopefully MH24 chimes in about his assistant high school coaching prowess and its relation to how he came to the conclusion that Urban and Dantonio and Harbaugh aren't doing it right, but Kirk is.

Does anybody at all remember the narrative of Kirk underperforming, in recruiting especially, that was shouted from the rooftops on this board...for IDK, like the last 4 years?

Dano, you just won't let it go. The three coaches mentioned have a significant geographic advantage to football hot beds and larger population bases. What the Iowa staff is good at is evaluating talent and developing those players. I think Iowa has proven their method works.

Never did I say that about any of those coaches and I love how you continue to knock the iowa program as a goofer fan....furthermore it appears as though iowa's "lack of recruiting" narrative you continue to bring up is not valid at this point either, being that Iowa is currently at or around 10th in recruiting for next year. Great to be a Hawkeye nowadays

They should fire him immediately and ban the Michigan football program for a solid decade.
Lol, seeing only Mi people have the power over JH, doubt if they will fire him. Banning them would be one way to cut down on losses.

We are in a way. Friday night... at Valley Stadium....

Better than a kick in the ass I guess, but still not quite the same as If it were in Kinnick.

No, not even close. Not sure it is worth doing on a Friday night. There are a lot of families that go. That is why I went because I could take the kid. Not this year...

Plus it will be at night, which means cold. Kind of the inverse of what Michigan is doing in Florida.

Wow really? They've (and pretty much every other spots section/outlet) had stories for four months about it, amazing how you missed it.
