Michigan State -4.5

I thought for sure it would be around a touchdown. I think it will be a close game and a 3-4 point spread sounds about right to me. I'm guessing it moves to 5-6 based on public perception of Iowa and MSU looking pretty good right now.

Just saw FPI chance for Iowa to win is only 36%. That seems awfully low to me. I would think at least 40%

I was surprised its so close. If it were in IA city, itd be -1.5, which seems ridiculously close.

That sounds about right. I was talking to a buddy last night and I was thinking right around 5. Come Saturday night, it will have no bearing. Iowa has to be Iowa and execute and be tougher and more physical for 60 minutes. Do that and you're in the playoffs. Don't and you're out of the hunt. MSU was impressive in the score yesterday, but Penn state moved the ball and found success running the ball. Good signs for Iowa. I think CJ serious up Saturday on the big stage and the defense bends but doesn't break against cook. Should be one hell of a game.

I thought -6.5 would be fair. Vegas giving a little more cred to Hawks. Probably lost their shirts with the Nebraska -1 line. How bout Florida state at -2 vs Florida? I seriously wanted to get my life savings on fsu but didn't. I feel sick I only made 50$ on that.
-as a degenerate gambler I oft times make the dry my tears bet. If Iowa wins I'll be happy as hell regardless. If I bet on Msu and they cover I use the money to dry my tears.

That's fine. They're a good team and have an NFL quarterback.

They are very good, but Iowa is a team that has been built to deal with just such an opponent. Cook is a solid QB, but Iowa's DB's & LB's are ball hawks... and even though nobody likes the term, Iowa will once again bend, but not break.

I'm surprised the line is that close. Makes me feel better about this game.

True...except we have the best downfield passing attacks in the country.

Will be interesting to see if CJ can consistently make throws against us that are more than short dump offs.

He's done it all year. He has a cannon for an arm and is usually very accurate. Didn't complete much downfield at Wisconsin or Nebraska, but both games were in awful weather.

The line on ESPN's page is at MSU -3.5

I'm seeing MSU -3 now. Sounds about right. MSU will win TOP and total yards, but the game will come down to the final minutes thanks to Iowa's fundamentally sounds play. MSU dominated Michigan and nearly lost for the same reasons.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm...Our pass defense has been pretty horrible most of the year, especially the last several games. Not sure what team you've been watching. Cook and Burbridge will absolutely eat us up.

Thankfully, this might be the worst Sparty D since Dantonio's been there. Should be quite the shootout.

You average like 40 seconds more TOP per game than we do, and we average 5 more yards per game.

We've played 5 defenses currently rated 36th or higher in national total D rankings (Wisc, NW, Pitt, Ill, Minn), and you've only faced 3 (Mich, OSU, PSU).

Also, our defense is ranked higher than yours in both total D and rush D, so not sure where you're getting this automatic TOP advantage.

Oh yeah, we have the vastly superior rushing offense. Advantage Hawks.

Everybody else does, so why wouldn't we?

And your awesome downfield passing attack is ranked a whopping 48th in the country.

Vegas Insider has the line at MSU -3 as of this post. Also, MSU was 0-3 as a road favorite. Conversely, the only game Iowa was a dog this year was vs Wisky. In every other game Iowa was the favorite.

What does being ranked 48 in whatever have to do with MSU having one of the best downfield passing attacks in the country?

Cook doesn't throw the ball 40 plus times a game. We threw like 15 passes against OSU.

Sometimes you have to just watch games and decide what teams are good. MSU with Cook and our WRs/TEs have an elite passing attack.

Only game I have watched fully was the Nebraska game and Cook looked pretty bad. I would assume that was one of his worst games of the year and that he will play a lot better next week.

Yeah probably one of bottom third games of the year. Started off slow but he was looking pretty good after that.

Only has 3 picks on the year and makes great decisions.

It would appear to me SpartanJD hasn't watched much of Iowa this year.. His posts remind me of Iowa teams from the past..

This should be a heckuva old school Big Ten football game. I like watching Iowa/MSU/Wisc play each other because they play football the way it is meant to be played.

Watching that Baylor/TCU game in the rain was like watching old people f***. If the conditions aren't perfect their offenses stopped. Neither team could do anything because they couldn't run the ball.

I can't wait for Saturday. I feel like Iowa is playing with house money now and has nothing to lose.

That line feels ok. I think that Iowa and MSU are pretty similar. However, MSU has better athletes.

Iowa will need a really good game plan and play error free to have a chance for the upset.

Sure, an Iowa win would be an upset.
But, not as big an upset as the national perspective seems to be for this matchup.
msu has struggled mightily with some not great teams. Close games against purdon't, indy. Then there's the loss to the cornholers.
