He's a counter wrestler, no offense of his own. An aggressive Iowa kid like Carter Happel will eat him alive.

Signed,

This board 2 weeks ago.

Go ahead and link that for me please so we can see what the "board" actually said. Thanks in advance.

Nah, just saying there was a thread about Phillipi committing to Virginia that had some people saying Phillippi style was boring, low-ceiling and someone (I think you) saying Happel over Phillippi was a no-brainier. Sorry, it wasn't "the board" just a few posters.

You all may be right about low-ceiling for all I know, we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks Papabear...just found it myself. Here is my quote..."Don't know much about Mickey but Happel has a great in state reputation and a good out of state one. No brainer."

Didn't predict Happel beats Phillipi...just that I would take Happel over Phillipi since he is an in state guy. I still stand by it.

Also, Needanap has the info on Phillipi...he is our resident Young Guns expert and seems to know those guys real well being from PA.

At one time Micky was highly interested in becoming a Hawkeye. Have zero clue what prevented it from happening... Frustrating.

All I know is someone from Young Guns on Friday night said to me that Micky had a smile from ear to ear when he was in the Hawkeye room on Friday and TnT shouldn't give up on him.

Marinelli changed his mind. Virginia has some good kids at his weight. Krivus and year ahead of him and Coy a year behind him. I assume they our his friends. Seems to me all three will be around the 141/149 range. Could see one of them decide to go elsewhere. This all being said Happel is still a great recruit and I don't think people should be getting so down on him. People are treating it like he was the pound for pound best in the nation at his weight and that he has taken some giant dive in the past year. All his loses besides a couple have come from high level recruits that are going to top notch D1 programs. Get Happel in the room everyday with TnT and the top notch training partners that Iowa has and ur gonna have one special wrestler. Just like many before him have become with less acclamation then Happel.

Not trying to be a negative nelly here, but it's worth mentioning that Happel already has been in the room with TnT and top notch training partners for quite some time now... Just some food for thought.

In my post I said everyday, guess what I was trying to say is everyday year round (RS Year). But you do bring up a good point. Was also trying to make the point that after Happel made the cadet world team he became a must get recruit. Now that he has lost some matches to quality opponent's is this no longer true? Yanni a cadet gold medalist lost last night, is Cornell second guessing his talent? No need to answer these questions. I just refuse to think Happel isn't D1 starter material in the future who could find the podium. Go Hawks!

Fair enough, we won't for sure for a couple years. It just seemed like some posters dismissed this kid a little so Friday night I was thinking "WTF? This guy
looks good to me!" Certainly Happel could pass him by depending on a lot of factors, here's hoping you're right.

Yea...he looked real good to me too. To me, the no brainer is more logistics and $$$...if two guys are about equal, why take the out of state guy?
