Midlands

I was unsure the weight cutting protocol. That sucks that he wouldn't attempt to get to 197 because Wilcke has been less than impressive so far. I think competition from Holloway and Bowman would help at least push him and we'd be better for whoever comes out on top.
I'm not sure what people expected out of Wilcke. Let me explain

1. He's wrestling up a weight
2. He had no bonus point wins against D1 competition last year
3. He never scored more than 8 points against D1 competition last year

He is a much improved wrestler this year compared to last, and he is developing just fine. He's not there yet, but he is our best option at 197. I'm extremely puzzled as to why anyone expected him to move up a weight and just blow people's doors off this year.

I have been impressed with Wilcke. He should have one against ISU but other than that he has showed potential. He is still growing into 197 and could be tough with more matches under his belt.

As for Holloway, I have noticed a lot of people saying 197 is no longer an option. That is a shame because I don't see much of a future for him at HWT. I think he could be tough at 197 but this year will probably be the most action he sees if he stays up.

I'm not so sure Halloway ever sees '97 again.
So then Bowman is a starter next year at either 84 or 97? Thought next year was gonna be 84-Wilcke, 97-Holloway. If Holloway is 220, I wouldn't think 197 is that big of a stretch next year if he alters is nutritional intake. Probably eating whatever he wants right now.

I'm not certain what next year will bring, but this year I think he stays fat and happy... I'm just kinda reading the tea leaves with he and staffs approach. He has the frame to add 20 more lbs... The cut back to '97 would be pretty darn tough on him, IMHO, even next summer. We shall see.

Do you get the same feeling with Cash wanting to stay at 97 or do you think he will make it back down to 84 next year. I hope they both make the cuts. I feel they will be better down then up a weight. What are ur thoughts with 74 next year? Will Young be filled out yet or do you think Gunther or Moody make he move up? I had Paddock pegged for 74 next year, but that's not gonna happen. Thanks in advance, nice to get an insiders prospective.

I absolutely think Cash will be our '84 next year and I think Young will start working with with Rutt extensively after he's done competing in opens this year. No way Warner will go as a true frosh next year, so I think Bowman will be our guy there, unless the trainers and staff work to get Halloway back down. I truly believe Halloway will remain a heavy through his career and back up Stoll again next year.

Wagner
Happel/Glynn/Rathbun
Turk/Happel/Glynn
Sorensen
Kemmerer
Marinelli
Young
Wilcke
Bowman/Halloway
Stoll

I was wondering if Happel would go 33 next year. I hope he does. Can Rathbun or Stickley make 25? I do hope Holloway makes the cut to 97. I feel he is a better option then Bowman. Guess I'd rather take the varsity spot for a year then be a back up. I agree Warner will RS.

I spaced out Laux. He is a junior this year... I agree that he will make the cut back to '25 next year and man that spot. Should have a damn decent chance to AA there too.
Yeah, he took a greyshirt year didn't he? Where he committed to WI but never actually enrolled there or something? Then came back to Iowa and went to a CC somewhere while training and then was at Iowa ever since until the NW fiasco and he came back anyways. Thats my jarbled understanding of his whole timeline since HS.

I noticed at SDSU both Holloway and Stoll came out at introductions, not sure about Iowa State. Is that in indication of his readiness ? Made me wonder if it meant they would put him our there if they needed to.

If we have
25 Laux
33 Happel
41 Turk
49 BS
57 Kem
65 Marinelli
74 Young
84 Wilcke
97 Holloway
285 Stoll
That's really not as down of a year most predict. I agree it's not a title team. But might be top 5. You guys sure about Laux? I really thought this was his last year.

Actually like the idea of Happel at 133. Could get AA's at 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184 & Hwt. Problem is only 3 maybe 4 of those will be high AA's.

Solid lineup. And positive regarding Laux, he is a junior eligibility wise.

No. Just going through the normal routine for when he is ready. Marinelli is doing the same thing... I don't expect to see Stoll until late Jan/early Feb. And the fact that Cory didn't even weigh in vs ISU should speak volumes to those who pay close attention to how the staff does things.

Thinking......
125- Wagner
133- Laux
141- Turk
149- BS
157- kemD
165- marD
174- ???
184- Money- Cash
197- Holloway
Hwt- Sammy

Holloway has a 197 body. He's thick but 197 thick. There was a marked difference between his frame and ISU's Smith in the dual.

Can anyone provide a team listing? I keep finding only 2015 Midlands info online. I know UNI is at the Scuffle. Just curious on who we will be seeing.

TIA

ACC (2): N.C. State, Pittsburgh
Big 12 (4): Iowa State, NDSU, Oklahoma, SDSU
Big Ten (9): Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, Wisconsin
EIWA (7): American, Brown, Columbia, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Princeton, Sacred Heart
EWL (1): Rider
MAC (6): Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Old Dominion
Pac-12 (4): Arizona State, Boise State, CS-Bakersfield, Oregon State
SoCon (1): SIU-Edwardsville

Wilke and Holloway remind me of Beatty and Johnson from a few years back. Both were shuffled back and forth from weight classes and I think had reduced success because of it. Clearly the needs of the team justify it and these moves are their only option but it's clearly a struggle to make such big adjustments. 84-97 and 97-HW are huge moves. Pretty sure Beatty went from a stout 74 to a decent 97 in a 18 month span.

Anyone know the Midlands schedule? I know it is Dec 29-30 but I can't find any times listed.

Not frustrated with Wilcke. Frustrated with Brands that Wilcke is our best option at 197. It's not like we found out in May that Burak was graduating.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Just my response to some people acting surprised that Wilcke is dropping matches, or isn't lighting up the scoreboard. It was to be expected.

Please explain?:)
Burak wrestled unattached for at least 2 of the Midlands, his SO and JR season I believe he wasn't 'officially' in the lineup until after Midlands.

I believe he had a minor knee injury one or maybe both years and it was maybe possible he would redshirt.
