Mikaela Shiffrin

Oh, that's the only event casual fans care about? Ok, that invalidates her 86 world cup wins, her 15 season titles, her 5 overall titles, being the only athlete—male or female—with wins in all six FIS Alpine Ski World Cup disciplines and her two olympic gold medals.

Maybe I treat people like they're stupid because they proudly display their ignorance for all to see.
Where did I claim that her failures at the Olympics invalidated her other accomplishments?

I asked if she had been a disappointment at the Olympics. You indicated that she didn't win.

Nobody gives a flying **** about Women's Downhill Skiing with the exception of once every four years at the Olympics. That is when millions of non fans tune in to watch these athletes. Then when we hear things like "most dominant athlete ever in women's skiing" and that athlete doesn't win, it seems like a huge disappointment. You understand this concept, right? It is the same with almost all of the Olympic sports.

Nobody watched Michael Phelps in the World Championships in swimming in non-Olympic years, but when the Olympics rolled around, all of America tuned in to watch him kick ass and he delivered. Then he was promptly forgotten about until the next Olympics, where all of America, once again, tuned in to watch him kick ass and, once again, he delivered.

Also, I went ahead and fixed the grammar mistake in your sentence explaining the reasoning behind your quick trigger with the insults to others' intelligence. Ignorance is not the same as stupidity, by the way.

This is a pretty big post - you could have shortened it by just saying “I don’t know shit about this but I wanted to chime in. Sorry”

She was on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me when she was 19 and already a prodigy. She's funny. She's the first up on their 25th anniversary retrospective and it's worth a listen.

Since you're so dug in here, I went ahead and googled "mikaela shiffrin disappointing olympics" and the results of that search indicate that your initial answer to my question should have just been "yes". By her own admission, her Olympic performances have been disappointing.

Why did you have to make this so hard? It was a simple question.

Lol, you’re a riot.
You came to This thread just to be an ass because you don’t like me, write a thesis about how you don’t know shit about the sport and are proud of it and now claim that winning gold medals is disappointing. Good times.

Hasn't she basically been a huge disappointment when it comes to Olympics? I could be thinking of somebody else or maybe I'm just plain wrong.
This was my initial post. It had nothing to do with you. Just a simple question and an admission that I could be thinking of somebody else or wrong altogether. Then you got all weird and went white knight. Sorry I offended your hero, I guess.

And I replied cordially. And you followed it up by saying her legacy is crap because she didn’t win at the Olympics- despite the fact that she HAS won gold at the Olympics.
The truth is that you know little about the sport but you hav been going on for two pages because you decided I was mean to you. Well done.

Fixed it for you.

The Winter Olympics should only be held in like five or six places: Vancouver, Utah/Colorado, Japan, Swiss/French Alps, or the Southern Alps/Dolomites.
The Alps seem to be warming. I thought Lillehammer was pulled off well, and Calgary. China and Russia, F off. That’s insane. I’m surprised they never went back to California. But, logistics probably came into play.

CA would be hard for the modern winter olympics. There just isn't the infrastructure for that many people and there aren't good locations for all the sports.
Plus, our snow is not reliable. We'll get nothing until March and then get 10 feet in a weekend. Or 3 feet every weekend. You never know.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking about CA. It was fine decades ago, but with the explosion of sports they'd need a bunch of venues, and probably have to host stuff in regional cities.
