Minnesota @ Michigan

I'm not rooting for MN (or MI), but Michigan also needs a 1 in their L column - for the rest of the B1G's sake.

First off, is that piped in crowd noise I hear?

Secondly, Iowa fans should be rooting for a Minny victory.

Also Iowa fans:

Just tuned in for the last 2 minutes. I see 4 fouls per team and minnesota shot the only 2 free throws for the entire half.

Is that legit or the usual Big Ten game where those numbers correct in the second half and both teams are in the double bonus by the 12:00 mark and 42 free throws are attempted. Didn't get a good look but thought I saw Little Larry out there doing his 532nd game of the season.

Michigan is the best team in the country...
they might go the whole season undefeated

Michigan won the 5 home 'cupcake' games they should have in the OOC and have only played away from Crisler Arena twice so far this season. Twice. @ MD and @ NEB. And @NEB might as well be considered as good as a neutral court game, instead of a true roadie, because they are that not good.

Yes, they are legitimately good. Dickinson the freshman center is good, bunch of good other players around him. But their schedule has been as absolutely favorable as it could be to this point. Their back half of the schedule is much harder, but they play both Illinois and Iowa once, at Michigan. If they win one or both of those, they will be heavy favorites to win the league.

BTN loved the dental work done earlier. Re: those 5 replay angles of Brooks spitting out a tooth after Gach got him in the mouth with an inadvertent elbow.

Networks refuse to show some injuries, but will replay some others like its the greatest thing to happen to the game.

Get back on the bus Minnesota. You'd put up more of a fight from there than you are now.

But rest assured, Hawk fans, the Gophers will likely look like damn near world-beaters on Sunday afternoon. Iowa (& my own) luck practically demands it.

Well we only play Michigan once at least. If they're this locked in defensively when we play them and the refs let them play we're in trouble. I'll admit this is the first game I've watched and was in the corner that they were likely overrated and benefitting from a lax schedule.

BUT, after watching this game, I'm impressed. Several physical athletes that don't shy away from contact. Lot of length and talent...like a better UNC. Their center seems really nimble and wise beyond his years being able to position himself around the rim. Wagner & Liver are known talents. Time will tell how they fair throughout the season and if they can play away from home, but they're making a good Minnesota team look silly.

:( Duke won. 83-82.

No wonder CoachK wants to call it a season. BC was 2-7 before the game.

So, it looks like both extremes were wrong(as usual) in response to Iowa's loss at minny.
goophs aren't great and they're also not bad.
The B1G is just a brutal league this year.

The few games I have seen of Michigan, the opposing team has done a poor job of forcing Dickinson to turn over his left shoulder. If you can make him do that, he is not nearly as effective. If you let him turn over his right, good luck stopping him.

As usual a ton of over reactions here. Michigan is solid (very solid) and has the most favorable schedule in the league as some have said only playing Iowa and Illinois once and at home. Minny was on a nice role, probably due for a stinker, and got ran last night. As in the Herkey thread regarding Kenpom, Michigan right now looks to be the favorite. Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin will be in it. I think the rest of the league will be battling to get to 11-9, 10-10, 9-11. And Minnesota will not shoot lights out on Sunday. I'm calling 85-71 Hawks.

I don't necessarily think Michigan is better than Iowa just because they clobbered a good (but not great) Minny team at home. Michigan doesn't play offense at Iowa's breakneck pace, plus it is a more sound team defensively. The Gophers had fewer opportunities to score, and Michigan's defense made Minny's shots harder to make. Iowa has a knack for leaving opposing shooters to take wide-open threes, which of course vastly increases the percent made. Iowa has made some strides defensively this season - they obviously have a long way to go before they're anywhere near great defensively (and let's be honest, there is a ceiling on how good Iowa can be defensively) but I do think that they can at least be consistently average.

SCUM looked damn good to me. Really quick defensively, good pg play and enough playmakers. That said, Minne is terrible and it makes our loss to them look even worse.

Probably too early to make any firm judgements, but there does seem to be a couple of layers emerging in the B1G race. I'm going to assume Illinois and Wisconsin both win tonight giving N'west and Indiana their third losses. Assuming we can win at Maryland, no certainty, there will be four teams with one loss or less and the rest of the league will all have at least 3 losses. Still very early though and so much still to be decided.

I don’t think people care if Minnesota goes undefeated from that night. What makes people mad is the late game “strategy” where clearly there wasn’t one.

Michigan has looked really good....both offensively and defensively. They will be a very tough out. Minnesota is a good team...I think really good. That is what our league is like this year. Your team only needs to have a bad half, maybe just by one key player, and the chances are that you will get beat. Conversely, ANY team in the league is capable of beating ANY other if they get hot and play up to their capabilities.

Or it could be that there was a late game strategy and the players failed to execute. Since a guy that had made like 3 3s all season went off like a Pete Maravich heater against Iowa I think we will crush them in Iowa City.

Still 25 points is a behind the woodshed beating, and won't be many of those this season.....
