I have been impressed with the job Coach Kill has done at Minnesota now for a few years. As a life long Hawkeye fan I have to give the guy props for what he has done for the Gophers. As a former player/coach I have to give him props on his coaching chops. He and his staff once again on saturday proved that they can overcome overall talent with sound team preparations and overall solid gmaeday strategy. They lost but not many teams have been able to limit TCU the way the Gophers did and be right in the game late in the 4th qtr.

The game against the Gophers this year I can see as being a huge, huge game not only for Iowa and Minnesota but for who will win the West. After this weekends games I see Minnesota as a slightly better team then Wisconsin and Nebraska. However Minnesota plays by far the toughest schedule of the contenders in the West (They have Ohio St and Michigan from the East). Minnesota gets both Nebby and Wiscy at home this year. I can see them winning atleast one of those games because Kill out coaches his opposition. By Nov 14 I see Minnesota at 4 -1 in league play, Wisconsin at 5-1 and Nebby at 4-2. Iowa could be at either 4-1 or at 3-2 making the Minny game a make or break game for Iowa.

I love what Kill has done for Minnesota and for the B1G West. He is making Minnesota a legit consistent West contender. As a life long Iowa fan this doesnt scare me instead it intrigues me that Iowa will have one more black and blue tough test on its schedule. And any test that involves winning Floyd of Rosedale should be a tough black and blue test that garners national attention.

Also I think the game with Minny this year could be the defining moment of where/how the Ferentz legacy will go/end. If Iowa is sitting at 3-2 in league play on Nov. 14th and Iowa wins and goes on to finish first or second in the West Ferentz will coach for many years. However if Iowa takes a loss and goes on to finish 4-4 after losing to Nebby it could spell the end for Ferentz. I think he gets one more year (depending on ISU game) but with the schedule next year it will be hard to finish with more than 4 wins in conference play.

I don't disagree that Kill is a good coach - he will try to shorten games which can keep the Gophers in games against better competition. With all the love for Kill (again I like him) the Gophers are 1-4 in their last 5. The west is wide open this year and there are 5 teams that can win it including the Gophers although playing at Ohio State makes it a bit tougher for them.

It is tough to measure a teams capabilities after 1 game. TCU might not be as good as advertised. Time will tell but with new players every year you tend to get different results. Lets talk about this in a few weeks.

Yes...........once he gets a quarterback.

Kill is basically doing what KF and staff did in the early/mid 2000s. This is his 5th year, time to produce.

I like how Kill is scouring Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana for kids that the SEC school string along. Smart move on his part and something I have wanted iSU to do for a while

"Scary good" is an overstatement. They seem to be solid football coaches. They've won almost everywhere they've been. We'll see if they can continue to improve.

Kill has been able to recognize weak areas on his roster and fill some of those areas with solid JUCO guys.

He's done well but wouldn't call him great there. For most part last two years he's won the games he should (minus Illinois last yr). But is 2-6 vs ranked team with both coming against Nebraska. In context last 2 seasons he and KF have same conf record at 9-7 both 0-2 in bowl games with Kill winning one more overall. Their D is very good especially their CBs if I was a fan I'd be worried about their offense and lack of passing game with a very inconsistent qb in leidner.

Denies, denies, denies.
Minnesota has improved, without a doubt. But, Kill has not won more than 8 games in one year(and that's with 4 non-conference games).

If the MN guys on here are trying to jab at Iowa(and I have no idea if they are), yeah, you guys beat us bad last year. How many times has Iowa done that to MN, and at their place? And, MN hasn't won in Kinnick since 1999, I think.

But, getting back to Kill, Iowa won Big Ten titles under Fry and Ferentz in their 3rd and 4th year, respectfully. Ferentz went 8-0 in conference. This is Kills 5th. I'd pause some on the superlatives.
